As another round of layoffs hit Xbox, Microsoft cancels Rare's long in development Everwild

What is the fucking point of buying almost the entire western game developer industry just to cancel everything and fire everyone lol. The way I see it live service games are going to put everyone out of business because apparently no major studio knows how to release a good product and reward talent anymore. In fifteen years you'll only ve able to play league of legends, fortnite or counter strike
Let me explain how microsoft works.

Think of microsoft as a tree, the ceo and board of microsoft is the very core of the company the root and trunk if you will, then you have the branches, the os branch, the software like office branch and the xbox gaming branch, each with their own ceo's and leadership, effectively smaller companies inside a much bigger one.

Now the xbox branch bought all these dev studios, but microsoft isn't seeing a return on investment fast enough, so it starts pulling money from the branch, this is what's happening at xbox, microsoft is doing a massive meddling game and it's destroying xbox.

Didn't Microsoft also replace their QA team with AI? There's shooting yourself on the foot and then there's suicide by nuclear blast, and MS has been so hellbent on accomplishing the latter for a long while now.

I heard that Microsoft invested heavy in AI. But it's so off-putting to many people and there are so many concerns that it may not be a good idea to jump in so hard right now. We might be going into something similar to the dotcom bubble where everyone jumps ahead of themselves way too fast because they only see the next big thing. No one was ready for what online retailers and services were trying to do 25+ years ago. And I don't think AI is at a stage where it's anywhere near as useful and accurate as these big companies think it is. They just want AI everywhere because they put a lot of money into it.

Here's a wild idea. Maybe these game developers were on a list of wrong-thinkers, Xbox was on the way out. Lure them into the platform with sweet deals and conditions and wipe them out in one foul swipe. It would be an effective way to wipe out ideas that you don't want reaching the public.

I would say it´s sad to see but expected.
First of rare has not put out anything worthwhile sense they where Rareware so honestly cutting out something that costs money is standard practices.
Secondly this is what will happen more and more when the xbox part of Microsoft is focusing more and more on game pass and said them self they wanna focus more on it to the point you can play xbox games anywhere and everywhere. Also why they mentioned they might not make a new xbox at all well they had taught about it at least. And also mentioned they want more third party games to be the main focus.

For them it´s more about easy profits and make people so reliant on game pass because imagine you never have to pay people to make games and you never have to spend money making a console that sell at at loss and still make shit load of money from people renting games you did not even pay to make.

And yes consoles are always sold at a loss. Sony lost 3.3 billion on PS3 hardware the PS vita also and so on, Xbox one sold at a loss it´s not said how much but it´s sold at lost and Microsoft admits series s and x also sells at a loss.

Let's avoid making baseless assumptions even if it's plausible.

I wasn't looking forward to Everwild, but at least it would have been some sort of release. It was also the one game being developed by Rare other than their Pirate MMO and the Perfect Dark remake. I figured once all of those were out of the way, we'd see some more games from Rare's older library get sequels. BUT NOPE. MICROSOFT CAN'T LET US HAVE ANYTHING NICE. Anyone remember Killer Instinct getting a new game in 2013? It wasn't even by Rare! -.-' Meanwhile you have the guys at Rare calling their old IPs outdated and lying about people not wanting to play them anymore. I cannot tell you how people i've heard asking for a new Banjo Kazooie or Conker. Fuck the corporations. This is why indie games exist! This is why we have Siactro games and all those other N64 inspired titles.

Rareware/Rare has to be the most sabotaged studio ever. I lost count of how many times they just wanted to make their game but their superiors wouldn't let them.
The amount of games that they had planned that got axed in that original Microsoft buyout is depressing. THEY HAD LIKE 4 DIFFERENT PITCHES FOR PERFECT DARK AND ZERO WAS THE ONE MICRO$OFT LANDED ON MAN!

Lmao I still can't believe they did that to this day.

Also remember this:

I bought the Project Spark thing when it came out. I was surprised to see that it's still playable when I went back to have a look at it since Project Spark was online only and was shut down years ago.

They made it to where you can play with your DLC stuff offline, but you can't play the custom stuff people were making. I actually quite enjoyed that game, the Conker DLC not so much.

So as much as it saddens me they canned everwilds, i'm not surprised they did, everwilds has been in development for a decade and isn't even in a playable state, this is likely more than just meddling on microsoft's part, it seems likely that at least some of this might in fact be bad devs, i hate that i have to defend big corpo microsoft here but a game being in development for a decade has NEVER worked out well.

As for the perfect dark remake i have to correct you on something, rare had nothing to do with that, i can't remember the studio behind it but rare wasn't involved at all, these last 10 years rare have all been focused on everwilds.

Also i need to remind you, the original devs at rare are LONG gone, i believe they left to make yooka laylee and a hat in time (not sure) but i know the devs from rare's heyday are long gone, so whatever you got out of rare would be no different than what halo studios has done to halo, a complete terrible "reimagining".

but at the same time we have new DOOM games!

but at the same time we have new DOOM games!
To be fair, the doom games are on a downward trend too, though i should point out this isn't nessisarily all on microsoft, the problem is the more money you throw at a project, the worse it seems to be, heck look at the budget of final fantasy 7, which was around 40 million including marketing, vs the budget of final fantasy 13 which is rumored to have been around 100 million even before marketing, even if you like 13 it's obvious which of the 2 is the more well put together game.

Budget limitations means you work with what you have, since most of these studios have effectively unlimited budget thanks to microsoft, it's likely effecting game quality as well as allowing the devs to put in politically devisive things they want even when it effects the games quality, making the situation worse.

Remember, clair obscure expedition 33 had a budget of around 40 million as well, limitations can cause invention.
