Switch Are you buying the switch 2?

its simple really the company is trying to stay afloat, fight piracy and actually be on bar with other consoles in the new gen race, you gotta realize the pressure on nintendo at this point.... balancing the edges is not simple task, i knew they will charge us more for it i actually thought the new switch might be 600 even so thats a good start, altho i hate the subscribtion for the online, they need to prove that the new servers are actually better

Not sure, will have to see what the actual price is.
If it's more than the originally said $450, I will wait for a drop.

Definitely not this model. May pick up the future lite model if I like it. but honestly, I'm kinda done with consoles that require regular online handshakes with the manufacturer in order to play otherwise offline games.

They've had it real bad over the past 8 years. The Nintendo Switch nearly sunk 'em. Phew! Hopefully they can nickel & dime us back to profitability.

Probably! I did not buy a switch, and have had to borrow others' consoles to play the few games I played. I still have not played my copies of Sonic Superstars or the Mario RPG remake, for example.
I am super hyped for the new Mario Kart, as well as that new Tomodachi. The Switch 2, along with those new games, will be a great excuse to play all the Switch games I haven't been able to!

Nope skipping Switch 2 just like im skipping PS5 and series X. So it seams 8th gen was the last generation for me. Now I rather focus on getting game on PC and maybe try my luck on finding some ps 1, ps2, ps3 games that does not cost a fortune.

I hate to say it but honestly Nintendo consoles for me has not been worth it for years Im not buying 1 console just to play Zelda or Pokemon Like they go 2 game series I only cared for and it´s not worth it.

Back in the day when I got a PS1 or 2 or 3 I got them for big library of JRPG today even steam has a huge library of JRPG games compare to a few years ago. And to me owning a console a 5-10 games is not worth it. If Im gonna own a system I want games to last me a few years. I complete 20-30 games per year so.

So to me Switch 2 would be waste of money and well I´m also not paying more than a PS5 on a console that is as strong as my PS4.

Eventually I’ll end up with one, likely under similar circumstances as my switch; I really wanted to play ‘Fire Emblem Three Houses’, bought the game, played it on my sister’s switch till she told me quite it, thus I had to get my own. This will likely happen again with the next ‘Fire Emblem’ instalment .

Metroid, Donkey Kong, and Mario Kart aren't enough for me to want to buy a new console. The price to upgrade will also be a huge deal breaker as well. Even if it is better, spending extra for something I already have, and itbeing features I might not even use or like just seems silly.

Time will tell if switch 2 will be successful or not on the sales. But quite sure not many people jump to buy it for early stage.

For me, I may buy it when switch 2 become a retro when i am getting older.

Ill wait for the beefy version. Also depends if other better handhelds comes out.

With a console purchase now being AT LEAST $450 (console+subscription services, a brand new micro sd, games, that stupid camera, aaaand tariffs), Nintendo is going toe-to-toe with serious hardware manufacturers, and I think their feet are too small for that.
Totally agreed.

Now let's do a reasonable and complete "starter pack" for the first year on the new console:

470 from the console
40 from online services (until they decide to increase the price because of the "new" features)
120 from microSD express (just to double the memory size, I'd still find it insuficient)
250 from 3 physical exclusive games
200 from 3 or 4 third party games
50 to own some upgrade patches and not depend on the online subscription
60 from the camera
120 from 2 third party controllers with a decent digital cross just to play properly Street Fighter 6 or classic retro games from Nintendo Online, elbow to elbow on the couch (not even a Pro controller 2 or the new Gamecube gamepad which cost 90 bucks per unit)...

1310 bucks, more or less, depending on your situation and preferences... For example, in my particular case, it would be around a 40% more than what I'd spend in the first year of the previous (and actual) Nintendo generation... Maybe you don't have titles from the previous Switch console, maybe you don't play locally on the couch so you'll just need and aditional complete controller, maybe you'll simply pass from the camera feature at 10 fps... But it will be still too much money for a system that looks in portable "almost" as good as if it had an oled screen, which will had "almost" the sufficient memory size to store around 8 actual games, with games technically "almost" as good as top actual systems (in the best cases)...
So it's always gonna be an "almost" when talking about the features, but an excess when we talk about the prices...
Videogames shouldn't become luxury or elitist items and I though that was never Nintendo's philosophy, I hope some rectifications will come to make some sense to this economical mess...

The info on switch keys are kinda misleading or confusing, I can confirm there are some physicals that contain the whole game on them, not all but some.
I got my hands on the console and game today and saw how it works, still the virtual keys kinda sucks in general
I know that but I don't think they should be a thing at all. It's clearly set up so that plenty of games will have the game key system.

I'll probably get one down the road, but it's not very high on my to-do list right now.

Maybe in 20 years.

I waited that long for PS1. I had to go hunting for a Dreamcast long after it had been discontinued. I'll wait for this, too.

Fuck no. Bowser can lose his job for all I care, and the Switch 2 can flop like the Wii U.

I can also not help but suspect, with all of these anti-consumer tactics, that my thoughts that Nintendo is back to their 1980's price fixing practices as well are right on the money. Let's look at the physical market.

* How much was Breath of the Wild in 2017? $60
* How much is Breath of the Wild in 2025? $60
Eight years, no price drop. That's rather unusual. But wait! Name ANY 1st (or even 2nd) party Switch game that has seen a price drop in stores outside buying used? I'll wait.
Ahh, I see you pointed out Black Friday! A time where a 1st party game may drop in price for 1 weekend by $20...then go right back to normal on Monday or Tuesday. Any other times? I ask because stores will regularly drop the price on products (going on sale) to dump excess inventory that's not selling to make room for something new that will.
Beyond MK8DX, which had years of expansion passes added to it to keep the game relevant, where is Super Mario Odyssey on the Top 100 sellers list? BotW? Princess Peach Showtime? Mario Party Whatever? Metroid Dread? Luigi's Mansion 2 & 3? Exactly. Yet...where are the games?
Right there on the shelf for the original MSRP where they've sat since launch.

That isn't normal.

Now, what was the "price fixing of the 1980's" I speak of? In simple terms, Nintendo of America was found guilty in court of breaking certain laws by telling retailers to never drop the price of their games, or put their games on sale, or they would stop supplying the store with their games. Which would be blow to the business - imagine Walmart no longer able to sell Coka Cola products, but the Safeway next door does - where are people going to shop? Exactly. Then, Nintendo of America would use "secret shoppers" to investigate stores periodically to ensure their games never went on sale (thereby "increasing the perceived value/demand" of the game as "only games that don't sell go on sale"), and report to NoA when they find an offending retailer.

Doesn't that seem awfully familiar?

The only thing that would cement the Switch 2 as the most anti-consumer product of all time ever is if it's revealed/discovered that physical NS2 games, once put into the system, can only ever be played on that system, with the only way to "share games" is with the "Virtual Game Cards" that allow the (original) owner of a game to temporarily share the digital game with a family member.

Don't think Nintendo would go that far? Then let me ask you three questions:
* How far did Nintendo go to fight game renting in the 80's?
* Do any of the upcoming NS2 games only come with a Licensing Key on the cart, with the rest of the game requiring a digital download, which could then be potentially shared via "VGC"?
* How hard does Nintendo hit when it comes to emulation & courts...especially after they recently went after Switch emulators with legal notices only to state a short time later that they recognize the emulator as legal but not giving a rats ass?

Nintendo is ushering in a dark age on the industry. I can only hope that consumers will turn their noses up at the system, seeing it as the anti-consumer fraud & scam that it is, and resist the "fear of missing out" psycho-phenomenon.

No shot. I’ve got my own already and I can’t justify hundreds worth just for Tomodachi Life and Legends Z-A (assuming these are released with the Switch 2)

Besides, Nintendo’s just getting more and more money hungry and I refuse to enable their greed

no. i want another DS like console.
Totally, mang!
I require a New-New-3DS-XL with an updated chip and Atomic Purple shell.

So even thinking it would cost 600€ you were saving and planning on buying it? how brave. Just don't tell to your loved ones lol.

I am much more surprised you did what you did than other people didn't do what you did, but that's something we will have to live with :)

Switch 2 is just a piece of something that will be just another console in the party, nobody is dreaming anything, only Nintendo fanboys. Just stay away from them and your life will be much better and you will be able to enjoy it fully :D

Oh, and since I can't edit, I'll just add here:
Nintendo was found guilty of price fixing by the EU, not the US - NoA just "settled" without taking blame. And the price fixing also involved various distributors, too. Forgot that.

as i said i had my points and discounts too, but yeah whats wrong with me planning on buying it ? you are talking as the switch is the only thing getting expensive people bought GPUs for 3x msrp as it was nothingthey did that with the ps5 too, its only fair if you have the feelings towards them not only "nintendo fanboys" as i stated i didnt play with my switch for a long time and already sold it waiting for the new one, nothing wrong with that, i want the new switch and the new games, while most people wasted money on the current switch i just saved it for this one

what is a GAMEMAN?
gameboy... gameman... get it ?

Unfortunately the fact of the matter is you have to buy in early to get the consoles that are most likely to be hackable.
It is interesting honestly that people already thinking of buying it early this time to hack it early, I'm excited to see how the jailbreak would be and how fast they will do it+ with stronger hardware and more features I bet they could even dual boot it to have hacked/official software which is sick
