Switch Are you buying the switch 2 ?

No, I don't believe so, and I'll give a very brief and simple explanation as to why.

1) No mentions of correcting the Joycon drift issue that was present within all prior and current model Nintendo Switches which has been infamously difficult to take care of or repair manually.
2) Not a full backwards compatibility and game sharing has been turned into "game lending" instead.
3) I highly doubt that the Switch 2 will have the same feature as the original Nintendo Switch where you can change the native language of your console and then be able to have your switch game translate to your switch console's native language if it's supported.

Plus it being worth $500 for at best maybe a console upgrade? I don't know if that's for me personally. But I'm very sure modding capabilities are going to be higher than ever now with the two usb ports, but I wouldn't know for sure. So who knows, maybe that could maybe be worth it?

Did you know that this is nothing new and was already on the first Switch, only now they've labelled it more clearly? On Switch, these are games that have the words ‘internet download required’ on the box. In them you have a cartridge, but the whole game(s) are not on it and you have to download them.

And just for information - Switch 2 preorders officially start on 9 April. Shops that already have preorders are simply trying to milk you out of your money to overpay.
Oh I'm fully aware they did it before on Switch 1
And I don't want to support it and normalize it!

The JPN version switch 2 console is way price less than other multi-language version. This is way price discrimination. If you are good at Japanese, no doubt to buy JPN version and start a JPN account, otherwise...

As much as I would like a Switch 2 I don't think I'll grab one at least this early. Maybe a year or two after launch.

Are you sure that's a good idea in today's economy? And if you live in the United States, there's going to be an increase on all goods imported from Japan. Plus if you're buying a console from a foreign country watts could come into play and you could potentially and seriously damage or harm your console if you don't know what you're doing. You could have something actually set on fire. So you might as well be paying for the US version basically generally unless you know how to do good budgeting with that sort of thing.

From what we've seen so far from the big reveal, With tons of games getting announced to new features of the device, there were some dealbreakers for most of us, pricing, features, capabilities and more

are you gonna buy it still ? If no, what's your Dealbreaker, and what's one thing Nintendo can do to win you over ?

I'll get one for sure. The game keys thing is the only real deal breaker for me, though. The console itself is fairly priced in Britain and I have plenty of Switch games that I can't wait to try out on it.

The info on switch keys are kinda misleading or confusing, I can confirm there are some physicals that contain the whole game on them, not all but some.
I got my hands on the console and game today and saw how it works, still the virtual keys kinda sucks in general

North America and Japan are on the same watt hook ups so it is a lot easier to import the other regions systems between the two. It becomes a different story with Europe

In case you are not aware they have decided to region lock the Japanese version of the console. So unless that Japanese console is hacked, will not work in the US.
The price for the console is actually lower in Japan. But they want to charge more abroad.
Greed.

What do you mean? What has Nintendo actually done wrong in this situation? Adjust their prices based on tarrifs and inflation?
Wow, Nintendo fanboy here, but I am surprised only one appeared. You're going to buy Switch 2 day one, you enter lottery and you're doing all efforts to continue being a fellow follower of the big N, defend them in any situation and never say bad things about it. Sorry, that was partially the description of being a Nintendo fanboy, I don't know why I had to explain something everyone in the world knows lol.

I wish you the best in your fellowship, but if you ever see Nintendo falling appart, please, do not feel like committing suicide, there are other ways to live...yes, it's true :).

For all the other people complaining about the price, get the Japan only console and practice some japanese in the way. If you're a real sailor with an eyepatch, you will keep it until the magic is discovered, and never will use it for online :)

I kind of figured that Nintendo would pull something like this. Thankfully when it comes to regional exclusives I'm sure that there's a way to bypass the lock. Most consoles rarely not have an exploit like that. And if the Switch 2 is an emulator, you can be very sure that we'll see it emulating their Switch games if Nintendo doesn't drop prices most likely especially in today's economy. Not that I'm recommending people do.

I'll make sure to keep this in mind when it comes to my future console modding, thank you. It's highly appreciated.

In whole, it seems that Nintendo has been wanting to pull something like this on their consumers for quite some time now. If I may be as so bold to say, I remember hearing something as a child that may hold some relevance today,

"You will own nothing and be happy about it,"

Well I guess if they don't want us to own digital goods that we literally paid for, then what's piracy exactly? I know it's probably not the right question to be asking here, but it's honestly a question I would like to ask of Nintendo of Japan and Nintendo of America especially considering their history as a video game company after they were selling trading cards.

For those unaware, Nintendo's first official video game, the arcade cabinet responsible for 50m and 75m IIRC, was actually an arcade cabinet rom hack that they had unofficially created, modified and redistributed and were sued for if memory serves me right.

It really says so much about the company that will burn down and target free fan games out of concern of it being competition against them, but yet when you look into their history as a company, not only did they try to lay down at least in my feeling a fucking monopoly after the initial game markets crash, but I wouldn't be shocked if a part of them and their decisions decided by greed causes another form of recession just within the video game media landscape.

Anyways, apologies for my rambling. Thank you all for informing me what I should have known. Honestly, might look into getting an Orange Spice GameCube at some point as a result. I don't see them releasing P.N 03 anytime soon. Or secrets of Evermore for SNES for that matter. Two other great Nintendo console exclusives that aren't being re-released anymore.

Yeah I'm aware, the way Ninty worded it now sounds like every single game has mandatory download requirement.
This is disinformation spread by probably Playstation or Xbox fanboys, or the normal trolls.
Only some games will be in this form, and rather from 3rd party publishers. Nintendo allows this because the maximum cartridge size is 64 GB and some games can be larger. The other thing is that some publishers have already done this to save costs, that they used the cheapest, smallest cartridges and the rest of the game has to be downloaded. Or, in the case of a collection of several titles, one of them is on the cartridge and the others are not even downloadable when the cartridge is inserted, only in the form of eshop codes included in the box. (Yes, among them is Ubisoft with the Assasin's Creed Ezio Collection ::angrygenjin

They do suck, but I'd rather have them replace the game cases that just provide a code that expires. (I still can't believe bravely default, a 3DS remaster is switch key but cyberpunk 2077 isnt LOL.)

yeah, it's hilarious CDPR wanna double their sales by any means to make it up to their fuck ups, it's nice that's an option at least so when a game comes as a key be mad at the studio not Nintendo

Hall effect? No thanks. ::scrooge-greed
Ok fair point and i wanna take a point out of Nintendo books, but ltrly no other console have first party hall effects, its a matter of time till 8bitdo or hori release theirs, and then you will find hall effect replacments for the switch 2... better yet if they are using the same analogs as 1 you can just buy them off amazon for 15 bucks

you couldn’t pay me to grab this thing at launch. and im absolutely not giving them a big green thumbs up to hostile consumer practices by buying this thing when it drops. or maybe ever.

-Game data absent from carts becoming normalized, little onboard storage (which may not be enough if your carts can’t even hold the game data for you)

-not compatible with previously (and still widely) used micro SDs. another cost (you didn’t think you’d be able to use any of those old micro SDs you already had, did you?)

-titles that have been out for YEARS (yakuza 0 released 10 years ago) for anywhere from $70-$80 or something. New games for like $90?? Or something?? That whole direct felt like a trip down memory lane lol. It’s so condescending, out-of-touch, and self-serving to ask customers to keep paying for old releases again and again.

-intentionally confusing pricing systems for games (it’s deliberately fatiguing to consumers—not accepting counterarguments to that lol my mind is 100% set)

-nintendo couldn’t even integrate voice chat in a normal way and now they want add camera features in game???? And the way they frame this in the direct is that it allows you to see the reactions of your friend who is…..sitting next to you on the couch? That’s fucking ridiculous and you know it. Nintendo has fought tooth and nail to maintain their squeaky-clean family-friendly image, some would say to the point of being prudish or stiff, and now they’re selling gaming cameras? For who? My 7-yr-old daughter? I already have a camera, and a discord account. I’m not saying this doesn’t have safe, fun applications but I find it weird. Maybe we can take baby steps—if Nintendo found a way to tackle to whole “free porn in the kids’ game store” problem then maybe they’d have the experience necessary to hand cameras to them.

-HDR….on fucking what? An LCD display? “Ohhhhhhh aaah deeper blacks and higher depth and contrast”, how?? Those blacks are going to look GREY. This isn’t an OLED device, though you may be led to believe that from the price.

-some titles were lagging ON THE DIRECT. that does not bode well for the performance of your nearly $500 purchase

-pokemon

Right now, I have access to so many games I can hardly pick what to play. I play new titles all the time, old and new, I’m constantly surprised by mechanics and systems I’ve never seen before, delighted by beautiful art in obscure titles I pick up on a whim—I haven’t wanted for a new system or some sort of “next step” in some time. I think ~gaming~ has reached kind of a plateau where, especially after the handheld boom, most people kinda already have what they want. They have a computer, a handheld device (potentially a few), a powerful console (that will also play movies) and TV…and the games aren’t looking much better than they did a couple years ago. Companies want you to think that constant growth and momentum are inherent to the industry and NECESSARY to the consumer but the truth of the matter is you may not need anything better than what you currently have. Unless you want to play the new Donkey Kong, I guess.

Im not buying it. I’m not going to let another enormous corporate interest convince me i need dumb shit so they can extract as much money and time from me as possible.

Wanted to add as well—historically, Nintendo had been able to rely on their consoles being cheaper to drive sales. Their consoles have tended to be less powerful and more affordable, which in combination with their comparatively light-hearted library of games, put them in a league all their own. The person spending hundreds on a next-gen console and the person buying a switch 1 arent necessarily the same consumer (though they often were, bc the switch was fun and accessible). The games can be expensive, and don’t go on sale as often, but 9 times out of 10 you’re getting a really polished, charming game that ages like wine.

With a console purchase now being AT LEAST $450 (console+subscription services, a brand new micro sd, games, that stupid camera, aaaand tariffs), Nintendo is going toe-to-toe with serious hardware manufacturers, and I think their feet are too small for that.

I guess the 'C' button on the new joycons is only usable if you pay a subscription!?!?!?!? Money, money, money, man. Same as everyone else, too pricey to justify rn, and honestly I can live without Mario Kart and Donkey Kong at least for a while.

Now talk to me when they announce a new Animal Crossing or Smash Bros, then I might have a different vibe.

The short answer is YES. the new nintendo switch is everything i wanted, powerful console and more games+ features, i already knew it was gonna cost me an arm and a leg and had the money ready for like 2 years now, i even sold my nintendo switch 1 and lite got me an oled on a sick deal and got close to 950 bucks to buy the new one, better yet i got a nice discount from the big electronic store near me and my discount dose include the switch 2 pre order and i can do it or 4 payment plan if i wanted to, ive waited for this moment a long time ago and happy it paid off, i guess i didnt answer the question fully... why im buying it anyway even tho its expensive ? well i had a gaming block for the longest time ever and these couple years of gaming werent it, i hardly bought games even and i needed nintendo in my life again, and what i saw from the direct was music to my ears exactly what i wanted, never felt like wining life this much so yeah absloutly im gonna buy the switch ASAP having a gaming experince as rare as this couldnt be as perfect as i imagined it to be im kinda confused why more people dint do what i did actually

lets be honest here discord is traaaaaaash rn they want you to pay too to use most of the features on that shit, i thought people didnt care about having game chat on the switch anyway, just use discord and thats it, and im pretty sure VC in game is free its just the calls between friends thats gonna be included

True but I think they are going all out this gen, you either gonna love them or hate them for what they gonna do this gen, for me its interesting that's they took most of the criticism and actually made a powerful device, I still cant believe the switch is a 1080 120 fps, that's a big W and ill give them that ill actually enjoy using it, this time if they want everything to work right they need to actually put time and effort in everything, good warranty on the device, I already know stick drift is coming back as a hidden feature so fixing that is a must also not sure how the battery will preform under pressure if it can stay for 3 hrs im happy
