Like almost everyone here, I've come from CDR. Thinking at first that I'd just have access to the Repo. But as I read a bit of the threads, I gradually got hooked. I now come here almost every day, not to post but mainly to read and sometimes comment on certain topics/questions.
I’ve said this before, but long story short, I got into playing pirated PS1/PSP games on my PTSV (PSPSPSPSPS) during the pandemic, and I discovered CDRomance through 4chan’s retro gaming board. I’d check the site every six months or so for new games, and one day in September, I saw the red “New” banner above a section for a forum. I hadn’t been part of a gaming forum for a long, long time, so I checked it out, and 636 posts and roughly four trillion arguments later, here we are.
I think I joined the forum within the first day or so that it went public, so I got to experience it well before Spike made the “Moving On” post. Things were really different, then — the forum was a lot quieter and slower-paced, but it also felt much more casual and relaxed. There were certainly no more than ten people on at any one time, so I got to read through every single new post whenever I logged on. (Could you imagine that, now?)
It was nice, but larger forums have their advantages, as well. I remember those days as a fleeting memory, beautiful and pure in their impermanence.
One thing I’ll say is that the people who make up this forum have changed a LOT since I joined. I think me and VampireLord are pretty much the only people who’ve stayed since September… I miss a lot of the old guard. Where did you all go? Don’t leave me here alone!
I do believe that I also hold the prestigious honour of being the first person banned from RGT — one week, for gently trolling a former mod. Would I do it again? I already have.

Me? Well..I came across RGT looking for translations. It didn't disappoint.
Stayed because yeh, like you pointed out some of you are easy to talk to, we've had some good discussions, laughs and I haven't seen any real drama yet so that's a plus.
At the moment I'm checking in daily, but next week after I go back to work it'll be less

I've been having a lot of difficult struggles in my life the past 9 years or so, emulation is a nice break from squalor and poverty here and there, giving me a small window of escape every now and then.
Been using CDRomance since I first discovered it, somewhere around 2015/2016 or whenever it came out (remember: my memory is foggy. The dates are roughly estimated, so sorry if I'm a bit off) and checking the site as religiously as I checked RHDN; which is entirely too often; I mean ridiculously often. Not even a minute later most times.
I said it before somewhere, I'm practically obsessed with games; not just the video variety either. Games in general are one of my specialties, and a lot of times I'd rather watch someone game, I like to see how they handle situations, watching their thought process manifest as they figure their way through problems.
I had been searching for communities because of being exiled and vilified by most of them, either for being free to speak my mind or some other illegitimate reason to hate on someone who's just there to make friends. I do have a mouth, and I do like to state my opinion; but I'm getting better about being less inconsiderate when I go about it. Either way I don't usually like to shit on someone else's in the process of discussing my own.
I had been through several communities already, being hated and loved by almost equal parts of the community, the love coming from regular people like you or me, and the hate coming from toxic scum and negativity feeders, and other such monstrous individuals gathering in their little cliques, usually consisting of mods and jannies. I had begun to solidify my presence in one such community and shortly after, people began spreading rumors and hate speech about me, which led to me getting harassed, ridiculed, tormented, and warned several times and almost banned by a mod for things I either, didn't do, or things taken out of context and then blown majorly out of proportion in favor against me. So I withdrew from that community, began looking other places such as Discord.
I posted a few times on here, but didn't take the community seriously. It seemed to me to be like all the other ROMhacking communities I'd tried to become a part of, full of negativity and drama, and people who'd rather bitch at newbies for making a mistake or accidentally breaking a rule rather than give them a fair and adequate warning or even any kind of welcoming attitude. I was devastated over RHDN shutting down, and now CDRomance.. I had pretty much given up on trying to be part of any sort of gaming community.
On a whim, I saw a thread I found interesting and began posting. As I realized that I might be into the site, I went ahead and personalized my account, adding my pfp and bio and whatnot; then I proceeded to make over 100 posts in the span of a single day, rising to the rank of Young Hero. I was satisfied; at that point I felt I could comfortably leave the community with no qualms or regrets; but the next day, I still wasn't banned, so I came back..
Been posting here ever since. My 2nd day posting made my first day look like nothing, and I didn't really mean to get that many posts the first day until I noticed I was at 88 posts already; like, at that point why not go for it?
Then I became more interested in other topics and other members, and that was when I really started to invest more energy into becoming a real member of the community, sharing not just to get my feelings out there, but to give back ideas or experiences with others, in the hopes that they would learn something from it.
The rest is history.

Well, I've waited long enough. You all are witnesses to my good faith and willingness to clarify. Despite this, I continue to be snubbed by that user, without a concrete reason.
You can see how the roles have been reversed, where right and wrong really are, and who is the real rude and immature one, beyond linguistic subtleties, between the two of us.
I'll leave it up to you to judge the situation. I'm not a person who judges another, without knowing them, just for their way of expressing themselves: we say that we condemn the sin, not the sinner.
For me the matter is closed, and I say this with regret and displeasure, because I don't like to cut with someone without first trying to smooth out the differences. I'd like to hear someone else's opinion about this.

Why, isn't this one of my forum experiences? It's a very concrete and practical one, to boot. This situation could happen to someone else, it's not pleasant and cheerful to read, but very concrete and real, like in everyday life.

It's a forum, which means different people will interact. It's not made for you, it does not revolves around you. Not everyone will do things the way YOU want, but it's fine, and it's no reason to get emotional about it. Same as in real life.

Joined for the games, decided to try putting myself out there and so far it’s been pretty chill, everyone so far has been rather nice.
Yeah I kinda got that too; with a handful of exceptions here and there, but as a minimal as opposed to other communities I've been a part of.

Won't close the topic since this seems to have died down, but the possibility remains on the table. Frankly, I'm very saddened by the sheer amount of bad blood witnessed in the last couple of days. I thought we were all here to escape petty drama. Isn't that why we play videogames?

yeah i think most of that "drama" already died out but i understand your concerns.
Personally I play to remember it all, but I highly doubt most people think about it like that!
I used to be in the CDR Discord, but moved to the forums.
i saw the discord and my silly brain exploded. I use discord a lot with my friends but i can't really participe. My anxiety and my silliness gets the best of me and i just sit in a corner :'3
