Switch $80 MSRP For Mario Kart World

There probably won't be any form of modding it for a very, very, very, very long time.
The original Switch was exploited cuz it used an existing NVIDIA chip and people knew their way around it but I don't think it's gonna be the case. Or at least they are prepared for it now.

Who the hell thought this was a good idea?

I agree, I mean what were they thinking?! How come they go out of their to make a Super Mario World reference but they fuck up the color of the last letter??

your best bet would be to buy one on launch and not open it until 2-3 years cuz they ain't gonna go down without a fight.
That's the plan.

no security is perfect, and we got plenty of motivation, what with the price hike and lack of an alternative.

dont fret boys, gaming may be dead in a sense, but there's more than enough good retro games to last multiple lifetimes.
Seriously. I’m absolutely not buying this shit, I’m too busy playing Kirby’s Adventure and Sega Bass Fishing and keeping $80 in my pocket.

No one should be surprised by this.
Game prices have somehow not adjusted to 30 years of inflation and doubling development costs each generation. This clearly wasn't sustainable.
"$60 and no more!" was simply becoming untenable for even breaking even (and I want the people who make things I like to make money).

This, unfortunately, is slowly becoming the new price standard for video games, not just on Switch 2.
I remember articles when PS 5 games reached $70 2 years ago that gamers were stopping buying games because of this and sales were dropping....

It's been 2 years and what? titles priced at $69-$70 at launch are the norm and they are selling great....

GTA VI has long been rumoured to cost $100 at launch...

Okay but can we talk about how bland and uninspiring the UI and and logo look? Like i appreciate how the cup badges being slightly different but… eugh

Yeah, you could tell me this was Modded MK8 and I'd probably believe you. I think that's less an insult towards this game though and more a testament to how good MK8 looked that this game looks kinda boring in comparison.

Yeah but no one thought Nintendo would be the one to set the trend.

Basically telling me to never buy a nintendo product again, your terms are acceptable.
the economy, the inflation and the import tariffs probably thought it was a good idea.
Oh and Nintendo greedyness.
Tariffs likely have nothing to do with it, as vietnam is probably exempt due to them removing the tariffs from the us thus fulfilling trump's goal of tariffs being reciprocal, aka since vietnam has no tariffs on the us, the us won't tariff them and last i checked alot of countries jumped to vietnam for this stuff after china went nuts 5 years ago.
Even then tariffs wouldn't effect EU prices, so this is just a excuse at best.

Inflation might be the culprit but that is a terrible idea at this time as wages around the world have not increased along with inflation, when games went from 50 to 60 it happened in a economic boom, now we're facing more and more games failing, if anything this is going to speed up the death of the modern gaming industry and a new crash.

American tarifs do not affect worldwide pricing like that. Just nintendo greed.

Most of the electronics manufacturing nowadays happens in China (maybe some in South Korea and Singapore) and China/South Korea is getting slapped with a tariff. Retaliatory tariffs on the US are expected and who knows where it goes from there. Prices are only going to go up in the US and their territories. Get ready for it. As for me, I'm going to stick to the Switch 1 catalog for as long as I can. The upgrade isn't worth it in the state the economy is in right now.

That's not what I saw. Vietnam is getting slapped with a 46% tariff in the announcement today.

Considering they were making you pay 60 dollars for Wii U ports should have been telling.

I get the usual defense was "No one played them on Wii U!" but then you get games like NSMBU DX and MK8 which people DID buy a ton of and were huge sellers despite being on Wii U, and they were still 60 bucks. And not to mention games like Pikmin 3 DX which cost 40 dollars more on Switch than it did on Wii U for 4 extra missions and no new content in said missions...

I'm honestly surprised nintendo weren't the ones to start pricing at 70 to begin with honestly.

the price in UK right now seems to be equivalent to the US as you'd expect, and the tariffs were more than anyone anticipated. I wouldn't be shocked if the price went up before June.

I think a lot of what people don't understand about tariffs is that the reason they're super popular form of indirect warfare is because they're not intended to impact the end consumer that much.

When tariffs gets passed off to the end consumer, the company is essentially saying that their production pipeline is literally perfect, from the CEOs down to the factory workers. They're saying that there is no money to be saved anywhere between you and the person who initiated the idea to make this game. You are the END consumer and they're saying they can't shoulder this burden at all to make your experience with their product much more accessible and more enjoyable.

What's worse is that once these tariffs are lifted, the companies will not reduce their prices at all and they'll still see record profits regardless of pricing.

Tariffs are a bad excuse.

I don't know where you got that idea, but it is patently wrong. Companies have their profit margins to uphold and any additional expense either gets passed down to the consumer or requires some cuts in other parts of their business, i.e. firing workers. Either way, the common people will feel it.
