Yes, I agree, but still this is the first time they did the least changes I think or maybe I'm wrong ? even in the name for NES ... would buy it for sure if I get a chance.
You are right but this is also about a way Nintendo actually used a sense of "big deal change" just to make customers believe it would be worth buying these consoles which Nintendo had to do for the handheld console market because Sony was almost killing them lolol.
In the end Switch 1 and Switch 2 have a significant performance difference just like NES-SNES and N64-Gamecube which is what matters in a home video game console. I mean if it was handheld you had more room for innovation because device itself is how you play a game but a home video game console has many stuff that you combine with your TV. So it makes "screen" topic simpler therefore Nintendo offered a way to be able to play it even without TV. In that context Switch 2 significantly has an improved screen.
But when you think about it Nintendo consoles itself didn't experience much "innovation" until NDS. NDS had trivial dual screen that I never cared about and I do think it's a bad way to play games but its touch screen allowed cool ideas like drawing magic to cast it in Ni no Kuni to immerse yourself as a wizard!!! And then we have 3DS that its 3D stuff is trivial for me. When it comes to Wii, honestly motion gamepad ideas were a thing way before which Nintendo and Sega did it before but this idea never had significant game idea to have fun with until Wii era. Wii did its thing that was fun in its own context like personally I like playing Trauma Team (I can perform any surgery know, just give me a Wii stick lolol) but when you think about it's no big deal thing. I especially disliked that you had to use 2nd screen in Wii U for some aspect of games. In the end Wii U was beta test for Switch 1 lol.
People may think "Switch 1 is same shit as Wii U" but in reality it's not because Wii U couldn't use its potential properly and it was annoying but they fixed everything about it and made the core hybrid console idea properly.
In the end gotta judge Nintendo consoles in their own "family" so Switch 1-2 introduced what they could ever do. Nintendo may failed sometimes but they know how to improve their idea.
So clear innovation in Switch 2 is despite how it suck hard in the context of it's barely better than PlayStation 4 so it's a console belong to previous gen consoles, yet in the context of Nintendo it's the only console tried to keep up with PC gaming quality thanks to 4K and 60 FPS lol. I mean since Nintendo always sucked hard it has its own "level" that we gotta congratulate them for trying to keep up with video game industry that they are like 5 years late!!!! It's like watching a turtle trying to beat a bunny!!! lolol
yes I get that there's a charm in everything not being so detailed all the time, me too think that PS2 looks the best and is ... through it as a whole different concept.
Mhm. This is why video game industry ignores developing a game anymore, they just develop a program that non-gamers want because they realized most people are non-gamers and it's easier to satisfy non-gamers because developing a decent game takes too much time and budget for them lol. This is why gacha BS and Netflix-like games are popular. People wanna drop some digital girl character by paying tons of real money and just because they like watching Netflix they also wanna play a "game" that will make them watch a lot and they just do little chores and trivial stuff like walking and interacting with objects in between cutscenes lol.
the fact that companies like Nintendo are also moving this way however concerns me, are they going to forbid the unique, creative things they were known for to appeal to satisfy the audience and keep it safe forever and just be happy with a resolution and framerate upgrade? I hope not.
Honestly they still produce a video game as if they were developing a game on NES. I mean their games are copy-paste with little something that adds to the table. It's just they realized if their rubbish copy-paste games won't have higher graphics people don't wanna play them lol.
personally, I like the old-school gaming ngl, using physical discs/cartridges and the toy-like and colorful designs are ... think Valve can compete Nintendo ?
When Valve released Steam Deck they started to compete against Sony and Nintendo and they were lost lol. Steam Deck can even run Switch 1 games via emulation which made people buy Steam Deck and avoid buying Switch 1 just because Steam Deck offered better resolution and FPS which is why Switch 2 fixed this problem.
So currently Valve cannot compete with Nintendo unless they release a better Steam Deck 2.
As for Sony, they wanted to destroy Nintendo with PSP but they ended up making handlehand industry "ok" to people because Nintendo was seen as "that toy company that little kids play rubbish games on the go" but PSP made things serious like "dude it's like I can play PS2 games in my hands!!!" and it was a big deal. So people were like "then dude is Nintendo games actually good????" and it kinda helped NDS sells lol.
Why Sony failed to take down Nintendo is because of the mistake Sega did. Both Sony and Sega introduced their difference as in target audiance that "Nintendo is for little kids" but they were like "we are for non-little kids" which made them not a complete rival but "partners". Sony and Sega had to be also for little kids to destroy Nintendo.
In the end why Nintendo still exist is just because no other company properly steals the thunder of Nintendo's low quality rubbish childish games lol. In the context no company compete with Nintendo. It's more like Nintendo does their own thing by using their cults to always float. So as long as they produce this rubbish they will be fine because they have the culture people like and it satisfies basic needs of people. On the other hand Sony and Xbox doesn't have a culture and has no understanding of satisfying basic needs of people. Nintendo owns many game ideas that they over use a lot because it's all they have and it's what people like. But Xbox and Sony, for some reason, loves to kill their game ideas that naturally kills their culture and thus fan base. As a result they made themselves empty and honestly they just became a tool to play games when Nintendo itself is its own "entertaintment world" which is what a video game console has to do to sell.
So Sega could release a new console again and they would be a hit as long as they spam Sonic, Yakuza, Persona, Outrun, Hang-On, Shinobi, Streets of Rage and many more. But Sega dominates arcade industry instead and left video game console industry until one of these companies makes a mistake so Sega can take over lolol.
However real danger for these companies is how people wanna play games on their smartphone. So relatively home video game consoles and handlehand video game consoles becoming an "ancient shit" new generation kids wouldn't wanna own because it's better for them to play games on smartphone. Then if Nintendo, Sony and XBOX has to survive in video game industry they will have to come up with smartphones that is also for gaming just like what Nokia did with N-Gage in cell phone industry lolol. So when XBOX owned by Microsoft we all know Microsoft will dominate this market eventually and Valve, Sony and Nintendo will just die out lolol. Microsoft would buy Steam to dominate PC gaming and via gamer smartphones they will put the last nail into the coffin for Japanese video game industry so they will either stop existing or float with their own gamer smartphones lol.
nostalgia in a sense that it means living in the past and being sad about it thinking today life is worthless, yes that is very ... favored moving forward too.
Well I like to look for future. Never stayed in past whatsoever. Back then things were cool and okay in the context of what was possible back then, but now I would prefer a cyber punk reality that I connect my brain into my computer and play games that run "in my mind" lolol. I guess I have opposite sense of nostalgia that having a longing for a future I never experienced lol.
