2025 Nintendo = Greed

It would be perhaps a fair whataboutery/comparison for their latest console. But this is not about Switch 2. They are raising the prices of Switch 1 games. And it comes on the top of the fact that this company (specially least now, with this anti-gamer accountant CEO) never, or rarely, put anything on sale. So this makes the comparison being even more skewed, because there are many and frequent discounts on microsoft and sony products...
Well, they are not rising prices of Switch 1 games but console and accessories.

So the comparison is justified. Sony and Microsoft also raised the prices of consoles and accessories that are several years old...

The problem is, many people around the world are paying for it. Nintendo knows that, so we're not forced to buy their stuff.

This isn't tariffs. Nintendo was making bank on those Joycon controllers at the already insane price of $95. They're cheaply made controllers prone to stick drift. This is just corporate greed using tariffs as cover.

It doesn't change a thing and it's not because of "greed". It's because of what "rule 3" situation regarding America.

The price of an item increased due to "rule 3" which naturally has an effect for the price change for the item for good. It doesn't change a thing if the item was imported to the country long time ago, the item as a stock will have to be replenished for new retail price due to rule 3 therefore cannot have any "effective" way to make places able to easily differentiate between when items are imported to the country. You can but it will cause a complex mess of bureaucracy and lots of BS had to be done which basically "no one would care" so to ease the process just change the price of the item to new one and sell everything, despite when they are important, for the same new adjusted price.

When a situation caused by America, blaming Nintendo really doesn't make sense at all. Think of the greed America has then lolol. Dude I'm Sega fan boi who really dislikes Nintendo, but it doesn't mean I can go against the truth. Nothing can beat the truth lol.

What kind of "greed" to mention about Nintendo in this context is they use this situation to their advantage but it's not an empty excuse, their business is risked a lot. In the end Nintendo may see a better profit reality by not importing anything to America but enforcing special shipping service that will increase the cost of getting Nintendo products from then on. If rule 3 aspect of America continues it gets easy for international companies to bail out America -> America's currency losing value -> basically people start to ignore America -> "oh the internet cable from America is damaged? nah who cares about America" -> America turns into a country that lost connection to rest of the world -> American economy collapses -> people twerk for 1 more dollar in The Great Depression 2 society -> lolol.

In the end no company should care about Americans. If it's not profitable, Nintendo doesn't have to care Americans using their products. They have XBOX anyway, innit? ::winkfelix

If Americans have a problem they should directly address it to the "rule 3" House lolol. As for Non-Americans, they gotta find their own ways for reducing prices by helping out companies. If "rule 3" gets greedy naturally people will have to spend a lot for everything.

The USA purchases the most imports out of any other country, so the idea of, "just ignore America", while sounding nice, doesn't make much sense.

It's a "was" statement so we cannot expect the same for the future due to "rule 3" situation lol.

I would rather completely ignore America and focus on China and Europe instead. Make whichever country benefits me by destroying economical benefit America had to make the whole market convenient for me. After all, even over a long time China is still the best country to make business lolol.

Increased prices make the risk of "IDK if Americans would wanna buy my products anymore" and even "IDK they can't even afford eggs so I don't expect them to be able to afford my products anyore!!!!" lol so not to risk it I would ignore America altogether. America was okay they were ok for business, not anymore lolol. War is in the air it's hobby for America, they proved they suck at business anymore lol.

Business-wise after The Great Depression America did whatever they could to strengthen their economy, this was why the world made America a playground for business. Things were ok, not anymore. It makes sense to ignore America but invest in China anymore. Buckle up, Kansas is no more!!! I hope you are learning Chinese!!! lolol

Sure, greed’s part of it. They could have taken a hit on the Trump tax for their old hardware in exchange for fan goodwill. But greed is an expected behavior of Nintendo. They’re not going to do that because they don’t need that little burst of goodwill. Their new product is selling gangbusters, so if they’re going to sabotage anything to keep the line from going down, it’s going to be the hardware that’s already spent eight years selling gangbusters.

But don’t pretend this is exclusively greed. It’s a direct response to the Trump tax. You can cry no politics all you want but this is an inherently political issue. You may want nothing to do with politics, but politics wants everything to do with you.

Tell that to rule 3 here lol.

It's easy to hate Nintendo for "greed" justification, but if I had complete control over Nintendo I would do the same. Why?: I will take it as an insult that American society "deserves it" like the "you reap what you sow" situation that's about pride and teaching a lesson. If they dislike what happens to them then they should fix it on their own. It's not Nintendo's concern nor their issue.

Still if Nintendo deserves being called "greedy" over it then gotta blame America for greed instead or too because this is literally why they do it from the start lol.

On that note, we Americans have been eating good on video game prices compared to most of the rest of the world for decades now. Maybe we ought to have a taste of what everyone else deals with.

Nintendo, like many corporations in the modern day, has forgotten the importance of serving the customer. Shareholders wave a lot of money around but ultimately they cannot provide any real value and are also fickle and will eventually take their money elsewhere. I think Nintendo has gotten by with the power of their brand but they'll eventually run out of steam with consistent bad decisions eventually leading to a stock crash like we've seen with so many other big names in videogames. When that happens, Nintendo will have to either change course or get eaten up. I believe Nintendo's widely reported importance to the Japanese economy prevents the second outcome, but we'll see what the situation really is for the near future when the fiscal year comes to an end.

Corporations raising prices is mostly an opportunistic issue. They're raising prices because they can, and using major talking points spread around the media to cover for it. The reason why I believe that the price increase is not related to concrete issues like tariffs creating supply chain issues is because we didn't see the same price increases in consoles when the global supply chain was dealing with the semiconductor shortage in 2023-2024, and I believe that was because the average consumer was not aware of the nuances of the supply chain issues and would blame the suppliers, in this case the big three consolemakers (At that time, they responded by providing fewer consoles than by raising prices.) This time, however, the issue is very publicized and they are taking advantage of the headlines to cover for their business decisions, which for Nintendo as we have seen is to prioritize profits over providing value to the customer.

Furthermore, console makers have an incentive to sell consoles at a loss because they recoup costs by having players in their "environment," buying their games and subscribing to their services. Nintendo has no real reason to raise prices, they simply want to and believe that you are willing to pay for it. I think that in this case, Nintendo also wants to make the Switch 2 look like a better value by closing the price gap between the consoles.

Anyways, whatever your reason, I think its wild that some people take it on themselves to defend the honor of big corpo.

Yeah, nobody should be defending them on this. Corporate short-sightedness and greed and turning every product and service most people use steadily worse and more expensive. But this particular price hike has a direct cause.

Most of the rest of what they’ve been doing for years now is just garden variety enshittification though.

Currently to preorder games the price I have to pay is equal to my 2 year worthy cost of bills!!! lolol

Now, when Americans hears it they think "awww sucks to be you because your economy is poor", however currency conversion and currency value over other currencies nothing to do with local economy of a country. Common misunderstanding is currency exist for "fair balance of economies between countries" but it has no such purpose too. I can easily afford whatever I want that's not imported to my country by buying local stuff. The issue is how expensive imported products are and international companies are like "me selling my shitty smartphone for a gold mine, I hope you'll buy it" but no one does when we have local smartphones at home that naturally cheap AF for us. Apple you suck lol.

Simply put currency topic just means no one wanna use American dollar to buy money of my local currency therefore things are no different than simple trade logic of "to get money the market value is X amount of money for 1 money" logic like people exchanging their stones. X country have to pay 5 stone to buy 1 stone of Y country lol.

However new American Nightmare problem is not about currency conversion but taxes and stuff. It means it costs more to import the product to the greedy country therefore to cover this cost you gotta increase the prices.

So price is not simply about manufacturing cost + "let's add my greed to the equation" thing. It does cost to transport the products and paying tons of money for many things about it. This is a 1 big reason why better forget America exist to make business lol.

And then in video game context it takes extra cost to translate the game and adjust the game so Karens won't complain, so this is added to the price too. If you want censor then it means extra budget and development time so you gotta pay for it. There is no such thing as "I demand X so you'll give me Y", ask kindly and pay the price for it lol.

So what likely future of America is?: Economy hack is to drop value of American dollar to increase gold prices to make more money from gold. When America make people shy out to make business in American context it will mean people won't need a reason to buy American dollar -> value of American dollar will decrease then I can buy video games on Steam cheaply lolol.

Then what will happen?: I will start to buy tons of places in America and use them for my evil purpose. Making half of New York sold to people from Dubai and Indians or something is what happens when you lose your economical power lolol.

Spot of hope on this though — piracy and fangame culture is always strongest when and where purchasing is at its most costly and inconvenient and at its least available.

People step in when corporations muck things up.

Anyways, whatever your reason, I think its wild that some people take it on themselves to defend the honor of big corpo.
As a Sega fan boi I'll always dislike Nintendo but if Nintendo is against America then it's like "enemy of my enemy is my ally" lolol.

America has to be taught a lesson for the greater good because their existence is a nonsensical hindrance to the world. In the end you will either rotate with the world or they will stop your existence.

I don't choose side in this topic but my sense of the truth, yet anyone who dislikes and list justification for why Nintendo is "bad" about this topic really seem to either just wanna hate Nintendo which I always make fun of Nintendo in every chance I get lol, or they have no idea what actually happens or they are too proud to be American or they are so Americanized to have sexual fetish over the concept of "America" which Sigmund Freud intensifies here lol. So from an outsider POV, what I see is Nintendo is a company so I accept their fundamental greed because that's how big companies are. That's only natural. Otherwise it's like being Captain Obvious and saying "damn thieves gone too far!!1 they are so criminal!! They used to only steal from rich people!!!" the hell lol.

I do understand the idea of companies "used to care about customers" but in reality they were just a pussy then which was a fake social mask they had. They just realized when it comes to luxury item there are people who will buy it no matter what. People kinda got used to focusing on their wish by ignoring what kind of BS they have to do and be okay to get it, otherwise it would get harder to be a citizen of any country. People just suck it up and try to make a living. Another thing is let's say your generation finds a reason to hate Nintendo so they just forget about Nintendo exist, and then a new generation comes who knows nothing about Nintendo so they buy Nintendo stuff. That's the way it's and what companies relies on. Scam generations to milk them dry and then they will always have fresh supply of sucker to suck lol. I mean just stop and think like you own Nintendo: Would you really care about putting happy smile of people's face buying your provide by providing it? Business is something that you can only make money when you can and there is no garantue you can make money. In video game company POV whole process of development -> selling game feels like you trying to play baseball that has like 5 to 10 years input delay so you have to predict where ball will come to hit it in particular way and then wait for years for that ball to come and watch if you made a good decision or not because you have no "control" to change the input of how your guy will hit the ball after the decision is made. This situation make companies very desperate to make money when you found the cow the suck lol. Naturally this is why greed is to be expected from companies, especially bigger ones because as you get big your fall hits harder!! lolol

In the end I do not expect any company to treat people nicely because it would be naive. When I walk around wild west I ready my gun and expect everyone to shoot me. I don't think "I came from Germany and how nice it was that no one cared to shoot me, partner", I accept the situation and deal with it. In that context it's like watching a street fight here. While I think Nintendo is annoying, America is more annoying so from objective POV America really deserved it lolol.
