Translation Credits: Released by: Fishbone Language: English Status: Fully Translated Patch Version: v1.0 Date: 24 Dec 2025 Source and details: https://www.romhacking.net/translations/7465/ This is the very first original release of Ys. Months before the MSX version and a year before the NES and Master System versions. A translation of the backstory from the manual can be found here. Since there's really only one notable emulator for PC-88 (M88) I've included the best version of it I was able to track down with the download archive. Included is a translation of the emulator options since they're all in Japanese and can't be […]

The controls are god awful, why does it even use number keys for movement??
Probably because it's a PC game from 1987... PC stuff from ZX Spectrum and MSX era always had questionable and annoying controls. Well not always but quite often. When MS-DOS started to come around it got a little better. With companies like Gravis making decent gamepads and joysticks for PC. Btw out of the remap options I mentioned JoyToKey is free and you can use it to force the controls to work with a controller if you can't stand using the numpad. I'm gonna use my copy of Xpadder with it later. I've always preferred controllers over keyboards

I love Falcon games, they have very beautiful music
Nihon Falcom was the developer that helped to pioneer the idea of how video game music should sound like. With contributions like from the great Yuzo Koshiro and their amazing in-house sound team they made some of the highest quality soundtracks around and set the standard

Man, I just finished Ys I & II on PC Engine CD, but seeing this cover makes me want to start it back up again.
Glad you liked it. I touched it up and jazzed it up with Photoshop. The original scan looked dull and bland by comparison. The details were washed out, and the colors didn't have any vibrancy at all
