It's almost 2025! I hope everyone had a good year! I'd like to ask: do you guys have a top 5 list of games you enjoyed playing this year? The release date and the order of the games don’t matter, as long as you played them in 2024.

This is my Top 5

Does it have to be top 5?
That might be difficult for me, wasn't alot of good games i played this year, but we'll see.

Gonna be honest, most years most of these wouldn't be on my list, but this year was especially bad for me when it came to gaming.

This is a hard one, but I think I've narrowed it down; not much has stood out to me this year gaming wise, but I also haven't really played many new games. I'm not including any I've done for an article here on the site of course, just stuff I've played for funsies and I'm also not including things I've replayed, only stuff I've played for the first time.

In no particular order as I couldn't figure that much out;
TMNT: Shredders Revenge
Street Fighter 6
Contra: Operation Galuga
Rise of the Ronin
Earth Defence Force 6

I only played Ys, but I never finished it due to stress and lack of motivation to play games. I think it's a very good sequel. The rest of the titles also seem fun! I just wishlisted Blacksmith of the Sand. Kingdom!

I was thinking of trying to write an article for a game I'm trying to complete 100%. I'm worried, however, because my English isn't that good, and I've never written an article before. Anyway, very nice list, too. I played SF6 and RotR only. My best rank was Platinum, but eventually, I ended up playing Tekken 8, and then I got tired of fighting games simply because I'd rather dedicate my time to playing single-player games. As for RotR, I think it was amazing! I didn't put it on my list because I enjoyed other titles slightly more.

You'll never know if you can do it or if you'll like it until you give it a go my friend. Your English seems good to me, but if you're worried about it you can always post a draft here in the forum's somewhere and I'm sure people will help out with the grammar and language.

Sid Meier's Colonization (1994)
Sierra Online King's Quest: Quest for the Crown (1984)
Sierra Online King's Quest II: Romancing The Throne (1985)

I think those are the only games I played in 2024.. I got no luxury of time to play games anymore..

Xenosaga Episode III
Saga Frontier 2
Bealphareth
Phantasy Star II
Planet Mort

Honorary mention to Xenosaga Episode II for being the absolute worst JRPG I have ever played from start to finish, which I also did in 2024.

V-Tetris ( first time actually trying out the virtual boy emulator too ! )
Mobile Golf GBC ( it's fun ! )
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire ( i seriously never bothered to play the originals until then ... yep )
Disgaea 4 ( and doubt i'll ever get to the land of carnage :/ )
GTA San Andreas - The Definitive Edition ( haha ... i'm still surprised i played this game all the way through ... in the past i only got 100% saves for the original version and just explored it )

I was not expecting much from such a simple game in concept, but it works quite well. A dungeon crawler on rails (sounds weird, I know) with 5 floors of 100 steps each, you have to save passengers of the ark Noir while fighting monsters. It's tough, RNG can and will screw you hard, and honestly, the story and characters aren't super interesting, but I was still invested and I replay it from time to time trying to get better runs.

It's a fun rogue-like with a card and mana system that I was really into for a month, the story is actually interesting and the music is great. I haven't played it for quite some time though, should get back to it and 100%.

I guess I could compare it to King's Field? It's a really ugly game (seriously, it looks like an asset flip and the presentation is dry as hell, characters don't even have portraits), yet I played through it twice, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Simple pleasures are the best, I guess.

It's Pokemon. It's a good Pokemon game. Good.

A 2D shooter where you have to defend objectives against mechs each day, while getting payed stiffed on your pay by your oppressive government, while said pay is what you need to get stuff to defend these bloody objectives. Comes with cute girls, guns and seriously, fuck taxes.
It's nice. A bit on the easy side and nothing revolutionary, but fun nonetheless.

extra this was reallly good too man

Xenogears is pretty enjoyable overall. Xenosaga is a rollercoaster. If you can play the DS version of Episode II (still untranslated, iirc) I recommend it over the PS2 version, unless you want the full miserable experience.

I had the opposite experience, i found ep 1 miserable, while ep 2 i overall enjoyed (though the 2 dream dungeons were kinda boring and of course the lack of a barter system).
3 is still the best though.

I'd say it depends what you want in a game but I really don't see any area where Ep 2 exceeds Ep 1, and there's many areas where it falls short.
3 compared to 1 is more of a mixed bag because it really does do some things better than 1 even if it does others worse (1 has better writing and cutscene direction/budget, but 3 has better paced combat and dat Yuki Kajiura soundtrack).

Romancing Saga 2 (PC)
It's been years since I enjoyed an RPG this much. I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of its mechanics—it requires strategy, as simply grinding won't get you far.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition (PC)
A mix of GTA and Yakuza. The story completely captivated me, and I’m still looking forward to exploring the DLCs.

Super Mario 3D Land (3DS)
This is Mario in 3D the way I’d always dreamed of without even realizing it. By far, the most enjoyable 3DS game I’ve played.

Final Fantasy I (PS1)
Simple, yet thoroughly engaging. This PS1 version is fantastic because it stays more faithful to the original game. Completing it was challenging, but I’m really proud I stuck with it.

Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour (PC)
I started it expecting just a humorous game, but I was amazed by the number of hidden secrets. Exploring everything was incredibly entertaining.

Full miserable experience???? I really need to play Xenosaga too...!!!

RS2 is excellent. I wonder if that recent remake was any good.
