So i added the poll so we can voice our own opinions on genre's, but also because it seemed a good idea to make a thread for this, also i was unable to add age grouping or special interests like harem, yuri, magical girl etc because of poll limitations, i also had to combine a couple because of poll limits.
Anyway this thread i felt we needed, for suggesting general anime instead of special interests, underrated etc anime, just general anime that you think people might like across genre's so i'll start with 2 suggestions, gonna be obvious the kinds of genre's i prefer.

The Unwanted Undead Adventurer/Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha-Genre: Fantasy, Adventure, Action.
This anime is about a man, who dies and is reborn as a undead, having to work his way up from a skeleton to some semblance of human once more alongside the one person in the world he can trust, despite the premise it is neither horror nor comedy, it's actually a quite enjoyable and heartfelt of what it means to be human.

Sousou no Frieren/Frieren: Beyond Journey's End-Genre: Fantasy, Adventure, Action.
This is one of the best anime i've ever seen, and even more surprising it's a anime from 2023, it's a story that deals with immortality and the pain and loss that comes from it, the main character is Frieren, a thousand year old elf and one of the last of her race who after defeating the demon king alongside the heroes party, continues to live on long after they have died, frieren set's out on a journey to the northern reaches where a legend tells of a place where you can meet those who have passed, alongside her apprentice Fern and the warrior Stern, who all have people who have passed they wish to see again.
This is a all time classic even now, i still consider this a unmitigated masterpiece.

Great story, great fights, well animated, not too long, violent enough, faithful to the comic

Short and easy to folllow, great music, hot guys

Not too long, light hearted and fun, great animation, hot girls 3 types in fact

One anime that I always recomend for people who wants to start watching anime is: Saint Seiya

Underrated as hell (except here in Latin america). The anime adaptation it's very faithful to the manga and adapts it in its entirety. It has filler but it's good and connects very well with the canon material.

All excellent suggestions.
I’d also add Full Metal Panic.

I can say Normies or someone in this Generations mostly know about these 3.

In italy too Saint Seya is one of those shows everyone knows even if you know nothing of jap cartoons; I think the same applies to france and spain

I'll add

Also not too long, simple and wonderfully animated

I would recommend my top 3 favorite ones since they all passes some messages that might make you stop to think for a while and maybe check on your feelings, while showing some different elements that you can like or dislike about most of the animes in general, while not completely shounen (I'm tired of watching fights for no reason) they do have some fight scenes and others, also I should reavaliate my 3rd favorite, I forgot why it is that one and I remember a lot others that I could have liked more, I think it's time to rewatch that anime, so I might edit that one here later on...

Starting with Angel Beats! which has a dramatic story while also maintaning the show full of comedy, music, daily life and full of memorable scenes and characters, it's a complete anime that might catch you offguard.

The second one I recommend would be Katanagari, featuring an unique and pretty art style while also showing an amazing journey of a man and a woman during the Edo-era in Japan to defeat the most skilled swordsmans and their legendary unique swords, while having episodes lasting 50min each, developing not only the plot but also the battles.
katanagatari_t44199_1.jpg

Last but not least, Kamisama no Memochou (or Heaven's Memo Pad), while I have forgotten why it's here and if it should still be here since I'm old and forgot half of my life already and I watched it more than a decade ago, so... this is one of the animes where misterious cases happens and only a NEET Detective can solve, she's cute and help people, I don't have much to say, just watch it, if you dislike the first episode, then just drop it, the first episode is 50min long anyway and if it doesn't do the work, then nothing will...

honestly none, cause i rather not newcomers get into it considering how much, tourist outrage shit these fuckers keep pulling off so literally nothing.

I used to do this for an old job, so my info is dated, but: if someone came in completely uninitiated, I'd shoot for manageable length first and then go for the sort of tone they're seeking. Whether a show is popular or not doesn't really matter, because they wouldn't know that anyway. So I'd go with some easy choices like a Cowboy Bebop or Deathnote, maybe Azumanga if they're looking for something lighter, and Paranoia Agent if they just want some weird shit. Then when they finish that and come back, that's when you can branch out. If they didn't want a full series and wanted just a movie-length, something like a Ghibli film or maybe Ninja Scroll, it really just depended on the person.

Cowboy bebop and FMA Brotherhood have gotten a number of my friends into anime, those are the ones I usually recommend to anyone who wants to start

Also Frieren is one I now recommend a lot, but no friend has actually watched it yet (○~○)

I'd start with the golden age of anime (80's, 90's), back when Japan's economy was booming so much that studios could throw large amounts of money at huge projects without a care in the world. This was the period when you'd see meticulous and painstaking artwork being done by hand. The censorship was also very low giving creators plenty of room to explore even the darkest of topics. Nearly every anime fan will know these:

- Akira (this is a must for anyone)
- Ninja Scroll (amazing, also check out Wicked City, and Demon City Shinjuku)
- Neon Genesis Evangelion (just maybe not the last 2 episodes, they were kinda bad)
- Ghost in the Shell (also a must, more cyberpunk)
- Record of Lodoss War (Dungeons & Dragons yes)
- Legend of the Galactic Heroes (how many episodes is this?)
- Anything by Miyazaki (i suggest Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind)
- Perfect Blue (some might not like it, but i think its great)
- Angel's Egg (the artwork is amazing in this one)

There's also stuff that might not get as much attention nowadays, but i like it quite alot:

- Excel Saga (barely anyone talks about it, but i love it, i think most hate it)
- Mezzo Forte / A Kite (badass girls doing badass things, this is dark)
- Bubblegum Crisis (more badass girls doing badass things)
- Black Lagoon (anime in the 2000's is extremely hit or miss for me, but i love this)
- The Vision of Escaflowne (its popularity has kinda faded away, but its still a big deal)

What got me back into watching anime was Death Note, NANA, Full Metal Alchemist, Haruhi Suzumiya, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, etc. so I'd be tempted to recommend those or stuff close to it. My turbo-normie sister likes the Death Note anime, even.
