Your favorite Castlevania games?

Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth, SC IV, and Belmont's Revenge.

I still trying to get through a lot of the Metroidvanias but my favorites are the Aria and Dawn of Sorrow so far.

Absolutely

I kinda admire Castlevania II for its ambition, but...... It's a pretty rough game yeah
Explorotary platformers (aka Metroidvanias) were fun during my teen years but these day I only play momodora due to lack of time lol.
But CV2 does have fun stuff. Otherwise, What a shitload of fuck!!

Oh yeah, the AVGN review for this game is pretty iconic, really good video tho!

My favorite Castlevania games are

Super Castlevania IV
Castlevania (NES)
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood
Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge
Castlevania Adventure DX
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
Castlevania Bloodlines

My friend from 7th grade introduced me to Castlevania Adventure on Gameboy and I got hooked into the series since.

I love:

- Super Castlevania IV;
- Rondo of Blood;
- Symphony of the Night;
- Circle of the Moon;
- Aria of Sorrow;
- Order of Ecclesia.

But I see Dawn of Sorrow and a less interesting retreat of Aria.

Castlevania as a whole is probably one of, if not the, most consistently great video game series ever..

That being said, Rondo of Blood & Sympathy of the Night will always hold a special place in my heart..

Although a controversial pick... Why doesn't the other SNES game, Castlevania: Dracula X, ever get any love? Sure, it's not quite as good as Rondo of Blood, but it did what it could with what it had.. I actually prefer it over Castlevania IV..

I actually like Dracula X. It's a competent alternative of Rondo of Blood, with it's graphics and remixed OST, although the final boss battle is hard as nails, and it can't replace Rondo in it's entirety.

I kinda don't wanna say because either no one will care or will go "wow your tastes are horrible"

*cough*
My favorite Classicvania has to be Bloodlines, with SCV4 and Rondo in second and third place respectively.
And the Metroidvania... Either Harmony of Dissonance or Order of Ecclesia.

and honorable mentions because why not: Belmont's Revenge, Castlevania 64 and Aria of Sorrow are peak as well

My Poker:
-Super Castlevania IV
-Rondo of Blood
-Symphony of the Night
-Aria of Sorrow

I've always appreciated the looks of these games. All being peak pixel art. It feels like you're playing in a painting.

I also like the enemy diversity of later games. So many references to mythology, and folklore.

Rondo of Blood and its remake, The Dracula X Chronicles, takes the spot for me.

However, the first I beat was Lords: Mirror of Fate, the 2.5D sequel to Lords of Shadow, and recently I've played a good chunk of Lament of Innocence and I really hope Konami rereleases that because it's honestly one of the most overlooked action adventures I've played.

I think it great that, after decades of Adi Shankar bullshit, Konami are finally going back to this series, and I do genuinely think Lament and The Dracula X Chronicles have great rereleasing potential.

Honestly i really like the original game, it's pretty much the perfect NES game for me

Super Castlevania IV is a very close second

::lurkingI'm not going to make any friends with this one but....

Not to say that it's a "bad" game, but I do not understand why everybody loves Super Castlevania IV so much. Other than the fact that it's the only 2D game where you can swing the whip in all 8 directions, and it had a neat Mode-7 level; WTF? The graphics were muddy, the designs were relatively uninspired, and none of the music really stood out to me. I don't get it..

Sure it was hard AF, but I feel like Dracula X was the far superior demonstration of a proper SNES upgrade than Super IV..

I think Konami agrees with me as well. Why? Well riddle me this Simon: (other than the whip wiggle) can you name me any of the unique elements introduced in Super IV that were used in any future installments?::chocobo-dance

My Top 5 would be
Rondo of Blood
Dawn of Sorrow
Symphony of the Night
Aria of Sorrow
Portrait of Ruin

Honorable mentions.
Bloodlines
Harmony of Dissonance
Order of Ecclesia
Curse of Darkness

The only ones that I've played was Rondo of Blood and the original on the NES. I did play through a bit of Akumajou Densetsu on the Famicom, but never finished it. I also never played any of the Metroidvania ones, but out of all of the ones I've played, Rondo of Blood has to be one of my favorites. The game is essentially the Gradius Gaiden of Castlevania games!!!!
