Your entry into the world of FPS?

Mine was a weird one.

Duke Nukem 64 was my first FPS, but I didnt play a lot until like Halo/Resistence/Killzone, then when I played Doom for the first time in college it changed my life, and now Im obsessed with retro shooters.

I now play as much serious sam as i can feast on having only really discovered these games earlier in the year. The siberian mayhem on PS5 is wonderfully nuts.

I knew them mostly from a magazine and found it scary.

Not fully horror but I always felt like Turok was a FPS with some creepiness coming of it while Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were more conventional.

I love how this game had some "Metroid Prime-esque" effect with the Primagen Keys and getting new abilities to get to them. Powerslave did that a bit before but it was the first game on a Nintendo console to have a non linear progression for a FPS.
Yeah, Retro Studios was formed by Iguana's founder after he left Acclaim, but then Nintendo fired him for hosting 🌽 in the company's servers😑

Shareware versions of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom on my cousin's computer, but I really got into it later when I got my own PC with Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, Delta Force, Half Life 1, System Shock 2 and Blood.

Honestly I started the 1st Person Shooter genre thanks to this game:

TimeSplitters: Future Perfect (GC) although it's also for the PS2 and XBOX but I played the GC Version for the first time back in 2008 although the game came out in 2005.

I wanna replay Wolf3D someday but is there a modern feeling sourceport? EC Wolf is the only one?

Wolf3D is never going to 'feel modern' without substantially altering the game. If you play it, do it to go back and see where we came from. I've replayed it several times, but I always get sick of the mazes and hitscanners before I finish.

There are other sourceports, though. It sounds like LZWolf is the closest to what you're wanting, although it's not getting updated anymore. I did find out about ReflectionHLE, which is like a faithful Sourceport and also runs Catacomb 3-D, which is like the even more primitive predecessor of Wolf3D. So thank you!

That game was fucking dope. I also had the GameCube version first (and the rest later), playing splitscreen multi-player on that version was the shit back in '06 for me and my buddies. A good entry point to the genre if there ever was one.

Hmm, probably the original Quake, and DOOM. Eventually branched off to Goldeneye, Thief, Halo, Turok, F.E.A.R. I could go on forever.
Unreal Tournament 99, Quake Arena, Halo, and Nightfire were my childhood when it came to the FPS genre for sure.

Who introduced me to the world of FPS?
PC:
RTWC
Console (PS2):
007 Nightfire
Nightfire is God Tier lol

I think it may have been 007 Nightfire. If it wasn't, it was a demo of Serious Sam 2 on my friend's Xbox. I do know I played 007 Nightfire so much the disc looked like it'd been dragged through a sandpaper factory so it may as well have been that.

The first ever FPS for me was the classic Call of duty: Black Ops. It was one hell of an experience for me on the PS3.

The second, though not FPS but more TPS and got me hooked for life, was S4 League (Now dubbed S4 Xero).

Serious Sam 2 was the best Serious Sam game, hands down. That game is what happened when CroTeam spent the entire Yugoslavian Civil War tripping balls on fly agaric shrooms, and then decided to channel their trauma into a psychedelic first person shooter. I love that game, it still cracks me up with how insane and often poorly thought through it is (like, why is there a lives system when you can quicksave? That doesn't make sense) but still fun and playable, not to mention colorful in an era when everything was becoming a desaturated wasteland made of various turdlike shades of grey, brown and green.
