Would you rather get 100% or just finish the game?

I prefer to play the game, I feel that many times I just miss part of the enjoyment of the game when Im just trying to get everything. Now I do like to do as much as possible on each of them, but sadly, since my backlog of games and stuff to do is just growing by the second, I have to cut my losses and just 100% what I really REALLY like.

80% just finish the game, 20% trying to go for the 100%.

It really depends on a series of factors. Trophies/archievements are a great incintive to keep playing a game but only when striking a balance between challenge and rewards. Thing is, not every trophie/archievement list is created equal, some are way too easy or way too grindy.

Showers the player with trophies for the most mundane thing (open the menu, defeat 1 monster, etc): BAD
Makes ultra specific requests (defeat X boss with Y weapon equiped by Z characters under 12 mins in a friday night): BAD

I love FFX to death and have finished it multiple times but the trophy for completing the Sphere Grid with all the characters is bullshit.

Finish the game but I'll try my best to 100% it along the way.

It really depends. If I really get into a game and want to either see everything it has to offer, or challenge myself and push the game's mechanics to their limits, then I'll 100% it. Otherwise, just getting the credits to roll or simply finishing the main story without getting to all side content is enough for me, especially if it's a particularly long game and I find myself starting to get burned out.

Speaking as someone who's also gotten into RetroAchievements recently, I also approach achievement sets this way, and will usually give a set a look before playing a game with achievements on. Some sets just look more to me like busy work than anything else.

To paraphrase a blog post that I read, you can know what a steak tastes like without having to finish one.

Depends on game if I can I can if I don't feel it then nope

(The really 100% complete not the achievement since I don't care those)

I go for 100% most of the time but I do drop if if I'm not enjoying the game as much. ::winkfelix

Depends on the game. If it's a slog I'm happy to just be done. If it's good, like really good, I go out of my way to do every side-quest. I also don't really aim for achievements, just best endings.

I prefer to just finish the game. If I like it and want to play it again, then I'll probably 100% complete it.

Title.

I was talking to someone about this, and I was explaining my obsession with achieving 100% completion in the games I play.

Idk, I just can't see the point of jumping from one game to another endlessly without having seen everything the developer has scattered throughout the game for the player. Plus, I’ve noticed that I rarely remember the story or even most of the sequences from a game I’ve rushed through, and that makes the experience feel superficial.

Most of the games I have fond memories of are the ones I’ve played inside and out. That’s why I focus more on quality than quantity ,life is short, so I’d rather enjoy a handful of games than try to fill up my backlog as much as possible.

I'd rather to just complete the games over 5 different consoles + Steam I would die before I played all the games I have in my backlog.

I like to 100% games if I truly love playing them. Beyond that, how much of the extra content I do will depend on the game at hand.

I've 100%ed both DIshonored games because I love me some stealth immersive sims, but I've barely played through any of the THief reboot because it's shit.

It depends. If the task isn't boring and doesn't involve tedious mini-games, (very)rare drop rates or beat the game in the hardest difficulty ever, I might try.

Highly depends on the game and if it is fun or not I don't like when games feel like work instead of entertainment.

So game that have thing like rescue 100 unlock 80 trainstation destroy 200 rocks ect like som games do I often just finish the main game and than end it.
I don't like when a game is artificially inflated like that I value my time even if the game doesn't.

with the "yakuza" games i feel its worth it - you get to fight a new boss and its usually quite difficult so i when i beat them i am truly getting rewarded for what i paid for - even exploring the world looking for those locker keys isn't tedious to me.

1.) BASED Mai GIF
2.) It depends on if the reward for 100%-ing a game is nifty. If it's purely for bragging rights (like DKC1 or Sonic 2), then I'll just finish the game like normal.

there are achievements?

Mai is Waifu 😊
Also yes love bragging this is why I suffered and beat Dark Souls.

100% is also nice when the game is fun and not artificially made longer so in such a game you normally get about 60-80% just for the main story the rst is fine doing than.

Even when I suck Doa is one if the games I try and screw up 😁 but its fun and well the kick high 😎

Depends on the game. I've done a couple 100% runs, but most of the time I just play it until I don't feel like playing it anymore.

As has been said in this thread already, depends on the game.
If i absolutely love the game, provided the method isn't insane or annoying (looking at you FFX dodge 200 lightning strikes, or FFIX's excalibur 2 requirement), i will usually do so, if however it's a game i just want to finish it really depends on why i'm playing it, if i really hate it i might even resort to cheating if i refuse to quit for some reason.

I completed all stories in unlimited saga, probably my most hated game, because i was going to never let it beat me as i spent money on that game, money i barely had.

I rarely go for a 100% because most games don't give me enough of a reason to.

i just to only finish it....that way i can play it again in another time without the burnout feeling...like when you try to get all those hard achievements trophies....

I rarely ever to 100% intentionally.
I like to experience a game as a place to visit. Not as a place to 100%
If anything, trying to aim for completionism makes it less fun for me. Im not interested in achievements. The reward is the experience playing the game. I doing everything means there's nothing to return to. The mystery of the world is reduced to factoids of actions i must do.
I do like to be thorough in my exploration, but i avoid looking up what to do usually.
