Would you rather get 100% or just finish the game?

Title.

I was talking to someone about this, and I was explaining my obsession with achieving 100% completion in the games I play.

Idk, I just can't see the point of jumping from one game to another endlessly without having seen everything the developer has scattered throughout the game for the player. Plus, I’ve noticed that I rarely remember the story or even most of the sequences from a game I’ve rushed through, and that makes the experience feel superficial.

Most of the games I have fond memories of are the ones I’ve played inside and out. That’s why I focus more on quality than quantity ,life is short, so I’d rather enjoy a handful of games than try to fill up my backlog as much as possible.

Wby ?

jiggle physics is incredible ngl

Typically, I try my best and go for 100% in games, though sometimes I lose interest and just drop them after awhile. I agree with the quality>quantity approach as well, that's a philosophy I've always tried to live by.

I agree

If we are talking about achievements, I really don't care. I play a game to enjoy it, not to jump through every meaningless hoop the developers thought would be fun. Unless there is something tied to 100% completion or earning an achievement, like a costume unlock or the like, and it has to be something I would want mind you, I just play the game, finish it, and move on.
And I only consider replaying if I fully feel like it's necessary.

I finish the game .Sometimes are the 100% not worth it .
That’s why I’m really picky about games ,if most of the content is just filler, with the same types of quests over and over again just to artificially pad out the game’s lifespan, then it’s not worth my time and I don't even touch it with a stick.

I mainly focus on beautifully crafted games that offer organic, side content that adds to the game’s lore.

Like Mirror's Edge, with the yellow bags scattered everywhere that unlock cool concept art.

I play them too 100% completion. I even go as far as to collect all the achievements if it has them. Recently this year I went back to old games I beaten that I haven't collected all of the trophies cause of family reasons or cause of an event in my life. Its like walking on memory lane.

If achievements have had considerable thought put into them by the Devs/fans, then I will naturally collect them all on my way to completing the game and experiencing all of its content. I only skip achievements if I didn't really enjoy the game all that much, the set is poorly considered or (rarely) if I determine that pursuing all achievements will simply take too damn long.

The thing is, meaningless content like Ubisoft shit isn't designed to be fun, and that's the whole difference here

I like to experience everything a game has to offer — collect all the items, defeat every enemy I can, explore every area, and so on (even in Ubisoft games). I feel like that’s how I get the most out of a game.
As for achievements and trophies, I like going for them if they come naturally through normal gameplay — like in Dark Souls, where you can get most of them in a couple of playthroughs.

Go on then dude drop ya PSN/Xbox/RA, what kinda trophy cabinet are ya working with?

I only started collecting trophies on PS4 and have booted up my console in a few years now, been fully migrating over to Steam and RA as of late. ^^

90% of the time I just wanna complete the game. I mean I got over 2000 games I got no time to 100% them. But games I love allot does I will 100% like Elden ring or fallout4 or Dark souls 1-3 which I 100%. But yeah most of them time I would never care to.

I used RA before but tbh with you, I’d only completed 4 games on it : Ico, Legacy of Goku 1-2, and Buu’s Fury before I rage-quit because of a bug that didn’t save my cheevos and deleted my account, lmao. When I say 100% complete I’m mainly talking about the content, not the trophies, which are just pure grind in my opinion.

-first time playing:

-needs to get the credits , and MOST importantly get a satisfying ending where i feel like i truly "won" if there are multiple endings

-replaying games:

-when i replay a game i try to tackle things in a different way , test my mettle now that I'm experienced in the game , basically can try an entirely different approach from the "safe" approach

-it depends on the linear or non linear design of the game , still my power of imagination is so powerful i can come up with something to make a linear game less repetitive

Example: half life , depending on the character I'm playing as i change my method of playing let's say I'm Freeman so i will avoid encounters and shoot in a different way than Shepard , if I'm Shepard i will use a similar way that HECU soldiers fight , instead of spraying full mag of MP5 i aim at the head and shoot sprays of 3 bullets , these "in world" handicaps or more logical actions in the game and character context can REALLY impact a rather repetitive gameplay

It really depends on the game. When a game makes me feel like I'm not finished yet, I am happy to go for full completion. Sometimes a game gives me the sense that it is better to move on and maybe come back another day, or maybe not at all ngl. It also helps if it adds something to the story and if you can earn achievements for it.

I agree with Waffles, there are certain games that I love, curse the day they were made, and am happy to finish them. OK she didnt exactly say that, but the sentiment is still there.

If the game is reasonable and not time hogging, i 100%, if the game is too long or the 100% is too hard (And its reward worthless) i simply beat it

For the most part, I just play to complete the game but the way I play, especially with open world games & RPGs is to go finish most subquests or extra missions I come across so I'll end up doing a large amount of the game anyway. Unless the mission is a collectathon or basically a mini game unto itself, then I'll abandon.

If I really enjoy the game, then I'll go for the 100% and if the trophies/achievements are mostly complete then I sometimes don't mind doing the grind to get the mastery/platinum

i didnt used to really care about 100%ing games, but its been a weird compulsion in the last few years, while i still enjoy the thrill of doing everything a game has to offer, there is some games that doing 100% (heh) has kinda ruined them at least somewhat for me

Only some games

i already had 1 done but last year i did both versions of 2 and 3, almost did Elden Ring but that was a struggle with the computer i was playing on and i just have a lot of personal gripes with ER overall, though i do prefer King's Field over Souls

currently playing through KH1 and my ass is not motivated to complete the 100 Acre Wood
I'd rather just move on to the rest of the series than spend time on side objectives that interest me less
