Worst tutorial you have ever seen?

I did not understand the full nuance of Xenoblade 2's combat system until I got stuck on a boss and looked up tips that led to me actually learning what was going on with the orb system and how to manipulate it. Coming to understand it was a great moment, but that was in spite of the tutorials.

Fighting game tutorials are pretty horrific across the board. Shout out to Tekken 7 with the devs claiming story mode is the tutorial, Tekken 7's story mode actively misleads you on how the game plays since it changes how rage works and trains you on how to counter moves that don't fucking exist outside of story mode. Oh boy I'm so excited to play Claudio and Alisa in VS mode to use their cool projectiles.

The standard FG tutorial method of giving you distinct lessons all divided by loading screen is pretty terrible too. You go from a lengthy explanation of mechanics so simple not even the likes of Mario and Kirby feel the need to explain them to summing up complicated mechanics in a few sentences with no practical applications given.

Knockout City had a great tutorial because it gave you the space to freely walk around the maps and practice the mechanics at your own pace, so you could just have fun playing around with how movement works.

xenoblade 2 hands down. The are awful because they dont actually explain anything, i had to figure out most of the stuff on my own, and also you get still get them over 90% of the way thru the main story. you literally get one right before the final area.

god hand's tutorial is really skim and doesn't even tell you about the "hidden" moves like the shoryuken or the air launcher kick.

Back then most of the tutorial was in manuals so here is the manual of the God Hand lol:

DCS ingame tutorials are terrible, most of the time unclear so you better watch videos or guides online.

And on more "normal" games, Driver 1 tutorial is pretty terrible: it is so hard and it gives you no explanation of anything besides some names of actions to do. This one gatekeeped the campaign from me as a kid that didnt understand english or car slag that much

I'm usually patient enough with a tutorial when I have plenty of free time to go over it alone, but it was frustrating when I was at a friend's house and I was trying to reach the first proper level in Sonic & The Secret Rings, being repeatedly hindered by one of the tutorial missions.

Luckily, he was kind enough to lend me it, which allowed me to eventually experience the even bigger frustration of the final boss, due to the physical demand of the Wiimote's control scheme.

My favourite tutorial is probably the Hazard Course from Half Life (and the Boot Camp from Opposing Force) because it's entirely optional, but it gives you a quick taste of the action before the main game.

Absolutely.

Those are my favorite examples of this kind of thing.

Kingdom Hearts 2's Tutorial looks more based on repeating the same command lessons instead of teachng the stuff you would actually use... AND THE DAMN THING LASTS LIKE ONE HOUR

Tutorials are a symptom of phasing out instruction manuals along with the fact that many gamers don't even want to read them in the first place

Anyway, best tutorial? Maybe this one

Worst? Apparently this is the hardest tutorial of all time LOL

Duuuude... that South Park tutorial is AMAZING! Makes me wanna play XD
