In my experience every fandom in existence is a toxic swamp, with people so obsessed with their opinions that they forgot what made them like the games in the first place. I used to follow some survival horror fandoms a bit here and there, but very quickly realized that people just do the same thing over and over again. I get it, its social media in a nutshell, but I'm so tired of seeing how hateful and defensive some fans are.
And reading all the messages above I want to add the Silent Hill fandom to the pile. I'm still convinced that 90% of SH "fans" never played a single SH game and based their opinions on video essays. So god forbid if you happen to like later non Team Silent SH games or do not agree with some random theory made completely out of someone's headcannon. I think its just human psychology, we tend to defend things we love but sometimes get carried away. And social medias with their tribalism amplify this to the extreme. So yeah, I do not engage and stay away from any fandom these days, which is not that easy to do when you see all the delusional takes online.
Also I think RE6 is an okay game. Its a bloated mess, but trying it after playing other RE titles for all my life, I thought it would be much worse. I think its always about the absolute extremes. People who hate the game can't accept that someone likes it and vice versa. That is how every online argument works, nothing inbetween and no nuance. Damn, I'm rambling again, time to wrap it up
