Hey,
It's been incredibly frustrating not being able to post in General Discussion and Chatter. Those were the two forums where I was always active, and now that they're unavailable, it just feels like there's nothing interesting left. Those sections had the best conversations, and without them, everything feels so restricted and dull.

What makes it worse is the reason behind it. Some guy had to take legal action, and now we all have to suffer for it. I can’t help but feel so angry about the whole situation. It’s unfair that one person’s actions led to restrictions for everyone else. I just want to vent, but at the same time, I feel like I can’t do anything about it, which only makes the frustration build up even more.

I miss the casual conversations, the random discussions, and the fun of just talking about whatever came to mind. Now, everything feels way too serious, and it's honestly destroying the vibe of the forums.

I hope this doesn't come as demanding or impatient as I know the hard working staff behind this site is probably going through some headache right now, but I figured it's better just to say what's on my mind instead of keeping it:

1. I wish there were some kind of trusted role so regulars would have less restrictions regarding character count and not being locked out from an entire category of boards on situations like this.

2. I really appreciate Spike's efforts on everything he did, but now I feel more off-putting than ever that this forum is tied to a rom repository that can be legally threatened by a troll or an actual company at any given time. I won't ever deny our roots, but now I'm seriously wondering if it's coming the time for these two things to split apart from each other.

All the regular people are still here. We will end up finding somewhere on this forum to have those conversations and discussions. We're gamers, we don't quit the game just because we got game over!

Life kicks us around, but we just have to keep going.

Life finds a way @ciro64, always does. The good people are the majority, and communities are, without exception, always shaken by a rotten, vocal minority.

That's a fair point, actually.

I was a member of two boards which proofed because of their statues as the forums of larger Abandonware sites. I definitely don't need a third experience.

I'll admit I'm kinda right along with this too. I thought about it a lot today, and quite frankly it kinda feels like both sites would be safer if they were more officially unaffiliated. The idea that someone could effectively weaponize the repo to effectively threaten the forum or do the reverse hadn't even occurred to me until this morning when I started catching up on what happened.

Honestly yes it would have to be separate and not affiliated any of the staff here and have it's own vetting system. As bad as it sounds it just sounds like another discord would have to be used as set up would be fast and free. The problem would be getting a mod team and what would be the point of entry, invites in DMs from people who know? And even so what would be the vetting method? Interview? Gaging their level and reaction scores here?

Personally, I think this would just spawn another different problem, mods would have a hard time quantifying how a single user is deemed to be trusted, and there is a risk of breeding elitism between 'member of the council' and common user.
I mean wasn't the purpose of the forum is to bring us all together? Everyone, and I mean everyone, came here for the repo, but we all stay for the vibes.

Oh damn, this is a real thing? Thought it really was an April Fool's thing then Read Spike's post. Like, really damn, that's quite a blow for sure.
Well I'm always down to get 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 anytime, anywhere.

Vibes are a bit difficult when we’re at each other’s throats all the time, I agree somewhat but this place has never been one to bring people together lmao.

There will always be some bad apples but hey here we are, conversing in a thread in a civilized manner, if we're just here strictly for the repo we wouldn't even be here talking.

I think you are mistaking a positive majority with a negative minority. Trolls will be trolls wherever they go.

There would be inevitably a unfair favoritism to some degree, but so does any community. I'm not saying what I proposed is a perfect solution, but it certainly beats being treated like a number and being placed on the same level as people who registered on the forums just to troll. People left out alternatively could ko-fi their way out of it, I don't think trolls are usually willing to pay money.

About elitism culture, I trust the majority of the regulars here are mature adults without fragile egos.

And I'm saying all this still assuming the General category lockdown is just a temporary measure.

I don't think it's temporary, but I agree with you.

I came here from word of mouth and wasn't even aware of the repo, and in turn I invited someone else too.

I don't think it's temporary, but I agree with you.
If there's gonna be some privilege requirement to post there from now on I can get behind that. But if it's going to be permanently locked for everyone, I'll consider learning about hosting and managing a forum myself.

I'm willing to wait on this and see how it turns out, but yeah, that was on my mind too.
