Hey,
It's been incredibly frustrating not being able to post in General Discussion and Chatter. Those were the two forums where I was always active, and now that they're unavailable, it just feels like there's nothing interesting left. Those sections had the best conversations, and without them, everything feels so restricted and dull.

What makes it worse is the reason behind it. Some guy had to take legal action, and now we all have to suffer for it. I can’t help but feel so angry about the whole situation. It’s unfair that one person’s actions led to restrictions for everyone else. I just want to vent, but at the same time, I feel like I can’t do anything about it, which only makes the frustration build up even more.

I miss the casual conversations, the random discussions, and the fun of just talking about whatever came to mind. Now, everything feels way too serious, and it's honestly destroying the vibe of the forums.

I wish I had a witty comment to add regarding the whole ordeal, but I struggle to find the words.

While I agree with some of the others that the protection of the Repo is the highest priority, I've greatly enjoyed my time talking to the users here, both regulars and non-regulars alike. My only hope is that we can spin our frustrations into something positive.

Haven't been around for a while, just found out about what happened.
A shame that this happened, but it is what it is. If certain precautions aren't taken, it could cause bigger problems, so it's perfectly understandable.
If anyone wants to talk PS1 or FGs or something, that's what the DMs are for. ::cirnoshrug

PS: Or stuff that isn't that too, idk xD

Maybe if the GD and chatter are dead for good, there could be some more subforums focused on specific groups of topics? I know I've seen traditional game, gearhead, and sports sections suggested before. Obviously we can't have subforums for everything but I imagine there have to be some interests big enough to potentially justify. Certain things could probably be lumped together too, like more traditional hobbies (things like cooking, crafts, gardening etc.) could maybe get lumped together in a catch-all "lifestyle" subforum.

I'm not really sure how doable it'd all be from a more practical standpoint, especially determining what would be worth getting a subforum, but it's an idea that I figured I'd at least put out there.

That's great input. More granularity should help.

By the way, talking about gaming related things is still open to everyone. 😊

Only General Discussion and Forum Games & Chatter sections are locked down.

The great irony in all of this is that the forum was originally created to protect the repo by locking it behind an account requirement and now it's become a liability and had to be mutilated to *ahem* protect the repo. What a twist of fate. Truly, a modern Greek tragedy.

The only reason I, and I'm sure many others, made an account was to get access to the repo. I just happened to stay for the shenanigans and they were fun while they lasted. All I can say is don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened. Besides, it's not like everything got gutted.

Frankly I’m not sure what the fuss is about. Gaming chats are still present and it’s not like the forum is gone or there’s something stopping you from talking to people here.

To those who were the most active in the spaces that got the axe it's like losing a child. Yeah, the rest of the family is still there but it's just not the same anymore. I'm not particularly affected since most of the threads I'm active in are still around but I guess those who really wanted to find a date here are devastated ::winkfelix

The sillyness is still present in other spaces, even in more close gaming related have been some silly threads! More than the general and the chatter threads , or even the repo, is the users a big part making the site! I like how you put it! Is like losing a child. Some people take grief in different ways… some of then need a break, some of them are angry, others are sad and other goes unhinged. But is a part of what make us humans and not machines behind a screen.

It seems to have stung some people pretty bad, but I'm already seeing a return to the silly fun vibe in some cleverly constructed new topics in the gaming subforums.
I knew it would just be a matter of time before things would return to "normal". :->

Life, uh, finds a way, as they say.

Clippy pretty much hit the nail on the head. Speaking as someone who actually did come here entirely for the forum and spent the vast majority of the time in the GD, it's just really disheartening for it to just be straight up gone. Especially with the reasoning behind why it happened, and also especially since it's affecting the most basic part of the forum. I don't think I've ever seen a forum before, no matter what the subject matter of that forum, that doesn't have a GD. Not to say that such a forum doesn't exist, but it's certainly gotta be rare. That said, I'd still always put the repo over the forum if it came down to one or the other, even though I technically care about the forum more at this point I think. It's a weird, conflicting feeling no matter what. And while Yousef is right that there's nothing stopping me from just talking to people in other forums or through DMs or something, it's just not the same as a lot of what ends up lost compared to more general discussions. And it really just stings to have substantial things like the longest thread in the forum, or AMAs, or popular regular forum games just kind of indefinitely lost because some asshole wanted to feel powerful on the internet without anyone even really knowing.

Sorry if I'm rambling a bit or if I'm coming off as aggressive or anything, because I'm not trying to. I just wanted to get a response in before I go to bed and vent a little about it I guess.

You are wrong , spike didn't want us to find out the page limit we were making good progress to finding out if it exists in that one thread
Is this a Tower of Babel situation? I guess Spike saw the tower and said NO!

Let me add again, it's always the usual suspects who end up becoming moderators in a community, and it's always the death of that community. My last post was deleted.
No, it's people like you who ruin it for everyone.
People who believe rules don't apply to them and get to come here or anywhere else and insult everyone and if we dare to delete an aggression they immediately snap because their free speech was violated.
What is the solution here? Can we fix stupid? I don't think so. All I can do is avoid controversial topics and hope the next user don't get offended over the most mundane non-issue in the world and threatens to report me again.

It baffles and boggles my mind that people somehow break the rules here, just stay on topic or at least stay mature about it. What is this children's playground?
