We decided the true damp squib was the Xbox One. There was the Kinect 2.0 fiasco before it was even launched and the amount of exclusive games was absolutely pathetic. Rare Replay is like the only worthwhile one. I guess it did have some backwards compatibility with some Xbox and Xbox 360 games and I really like the controller. But, uh, yeah. Biggest waste of a console I've ever bought.

The Xbox served me well as a game pass machine from 2017 till 2021 or so and I'll always appreciate it for that. Definitely a questionable piece of hardware otherwise though lol

Oh! I'd forgotten about Game Pass. That was a super good deal and a great use of the Xbone. I ended up abandoning it for my PC when all the new games on Game Pass became PC compatible though. x)

You can get a used Wii U for 85 dollars shipped on EBay. If one were looking at a cheap machine for emulation, he/she could do a lot worse.

They play Gamecube natively, emulate DS well, run Retroarch, and I love the gamepad screen size. Some maybe don't know that the gamepad is compatible with the Wiimote. Placing it on a stand and using it as a monitor for Wii games is salvation for that blurry catalog.

Underrated hardware that to me is one of the better Nintendo products, albeit ill-fated.

I really wanted a wii u for MH3U but now the servers are dead. And unofficials servers are probably gonna work on CEMU soo... what was the point of the wii u again?

As long as you can find someone to play with yes. I do not know how active since the barrier to entry is a lot higher now than it was with nintendo servers, but people do play even the 4g and 3g servers are up. Generations and double cross I am unsure of though. For 3u and 4u you can even get dlc, but you have to set your dns to 34.75.107.68 (same for the ps2 titles and subject to change) to play and grab dlc. That is assuming you have a modded 3ds device with pretendo. I think it just works on Citra (Citra mmj for mobile), but I could be wrong

Oh, for the DLC I just download using GhostShop, it has DLCs and Updates in it.

i just bought a wii u, was hoping to sort of use it as a party console, cos my friends get together every couple of months to play the switch but since switch games are so expensive we just end up playing mario kart and mario party and i'm sure that'll lose its appeal soon.

if i can get a bunch of multiplayer beat 'em ups, or other party games on it i'm p sure it's gna be peak gaming.

Depends on what you're current setup is for Nintendo Games.
If you basically want everything Nintendo up to the Wii U consolidated on a single platform (that isn't your PC) then it's rad!
The appeal for me is the native compatibility with GC/Wii since dolphin has issues with a handful of games.

Every since Xenoblade Chronicles X was announced to be remastered and ported to Switch.

If seems that most of the Wii U Greatest Hits get ported to the Switch. Make sense due to Wii U is Nintendo Modern Failure every since Virtual Boy. Unlike the Virtual Boy, the Wii U actually had a good game library and at least it's playable.

Since most of the Wii U Library had been ported. It's look like the Wii U is the next 3DO than the infamous Virtual Boy. In few years, Wii U games will go up in price like 3DO & GameCube games. Hey anything is possible.

I agree with this, although the current value of most 'valuable' Wii U games seems almost fake.

Everybody who owned this console bought Wind Waker HD. That game being ~100 USD used already is kind of insane

I use my Wii U to test out video signals on CRTs. I think it would be awesome to hack it and run SteamOS or Linux on it.

Id love to see a DS emulator with Gamepad. I'm surprised it didn't support DS games like Super Gameboy at some point.

Edit: I just checked. It does use the Gamepad on the DS emulator. Nice!
