Why are the Anime Community being Sensitive about anime became a Mainstream.

Getting checked for prostate and breast cancer is just good advice in general, regardless of how old you are.

It's a joke. To be able to see or complain about anime becoming mainstream, you would need to be middle aged or old in the first place.

You all said anime already mainstream since 30 - 40 years ago but the kind of mainstream anime comnunity complaints about is the surge of new of new fans because of COVID, these new fans seems having culture shock of long estabalished anime/otaku cultures

True. Thanks to COVID some people learned animes exist, some learned video game consoles exist and they even bought Switch 1 and some studied world map just to distract themselves and learned Principality of Andorra exists!!!! lolol

Anime fans are just seeing big money, no talent Hollywood & Netflix adjacent producers/writers/vultures circling the corpse of remakes or comic book media adaptations, and now looking for other things to adapt and butcher. Superhero and comic trash is dying out, anime and video game adaptations are getting funded, and people who go looking for more end up discovering the old stuff.

On the other hand trying to appeal to the majority will always end up having a bland product that pleases nobody.

I doubt that Satoshi Kon or even Yoshiaki Kawajiri's animation could've appealed to most people around. Some are niche for a reason. Even the Baoh OVA was quite violent for its time (while the manga was even more).

Mainstream would mean Nekketsu Shonens, Slice of Life RomCom and other "safe" genres with barely any violence nor suggestive stuff (or only mildly).

Late 70's to early 90's anime outside of major successes like Dragon Ball Z are still niche compared to the more mainstream stuff from later.

The shift is more crazier than it comes off as. Tbh I'm more a nerd for taking a step back on these things than I was when I was really into it.

Anime/Manga have been "mainstream" at least since DBZ has been airing on Toonami (and Robotech if you wanna go back even further), but I will admit that I do see more and more anime t-shirts than I did previously and not exclusively worn by people who look like they smell bad beyond the 70 some odd layers of axe that they applied this morning

Anime becoming mainstream has attracted a large subset of "fans" who are extremely critical of mainstay anime tropes, and are incredibly pro-censorship, and as a result, the anime fandom (like video games the last decade and a half) has become incredibly hostile, full of puritans who hate the more inappropriate elements of the medium, and "localizers" who hate the source material they are working on and censor dialogue and insert cringey memes and political statements into anime where none exits previously.

That's the issue. Old head anime fans don't like these new fans entering the hobby with intention of changing it in the ways of censorship and sterilization.

Yes now people from outside of 4-chan are complaining about it lolol.

This ain't 4-chan though

As much as I don't care about the site they kinda get a point tho.

I don't understand why some people are working on a field they despise the culture of.

A good localisation should require people to know the culture at least better than most people around.

Some are almost making 4kids feel more authentic.

It's widespread in everything that gets adapted, localized, or creative input from any contemporary no-talent hacks with writing jobs. All entertainment is suffering from it.

Look at Witcher being adapted over at Netflix, they basically pushed the main character out of the series. Rings of Power over at Amazon is completely butchering established middle earth lore because once coffee fetching clowns were given billions of dollars and made show runners who peddle fan fiction.

James Gunn is currently butchering the DC Universe. Star Trek's has become an unwatchable joke franchise that intellectually makes the depth of CW teenage dramas seem like Shakespeare.

The broad entertainment industry is collapsing across the board due to a loss of quality and value to consumers. It's why a lot of people picked up anime in the first place. The writing quality in a lot of it is still above average, and it doesn't try to imply that the viewers have shit for brains.

The Problems are the Tourists people who are not part of the Anime Community and come in not to enjoy the Medium but fundamentally change it to suit there taste better to censor sensitive content to make it cleaner and less Creative in a sense and of Course constant bitching about how bad and evil said Anime is for X and W this is why people don't like it becoming Mainstream and it becomes trendy and many people get into the Medium for all the wrong reasons.
And don't get me wrong I welcome everyone who wants to enjoy Anime but I do not welcome people who want to Censor Anime and constantly bitch on how Sexist and so on Anime is they are the same pain as the Translators who remove ''Toxic'' Speech and replace it with there own nonsense its tiresome to be honest.
And I am not even that active in the Anime community but even I see this shit its a kind of Western Imperialism if you so will those Tourists do where the play the moral police against the Japanese and its sickening. The Japanese have there own Values and Culture and respect it or get out Anime is Japanese and we should respect that.

It could also be sheer incompetence rather than people hating Japanese culture.

Wouldn't it be counterproductive on the long term?

I do agree that if there's an underlying sub-text of "your culture is bad, let me "fix" your artistic creations with our own vision instead" it would be really problematic.

These people are actually pain in the ass of anything that is a series and popular.

I first saw them bitching about long Dragon Ball Z fights. I was like "then don't watch it or skip it or wait motherfucker" lol.

And then saw them bitching about Naruto filler episodes.

So the problem comes when companies take these bitches seriously by ruining it while trying to satisfy their ass that will never like anything.

For me it's rocket science when someone bitch about something that cannot really cause significant harm in their life. Sane people just ignore anything bothers them but from the start trivial stuff cannot bother them because it's trivial. But they act like someone drops atomic bomb on their head lolol.

I wouldn't disagree about the issue in shonens that fights are made longer than needed (because episodes had to be 20 minutes long and seasons are also usually supposed to fullfill a quota of episodes) but they can always read the mangas for better pacing.

And then saw them bitching about Naruto filler episodes.
Fillers are to be expected but nowadays they can be skipped nowadays.

When something nieche goes mainstream, the target audience changes, and stuff starts getting made for general audiences instead of core fans

So it becomes bland and all the edges get rounded

And it can make intelligent media stupid, normal media become for perverts, sane media become for insane people, media for mature people can get childish, et cetera!!!

In my case how "isolated" my country was before internet got popular in mid-2000s is the reason for why we had no idea it was called "anime" and we wouldn't notice it's something Japanese if the animes didn't have Japanese text. So many technologies and way of living always came late here until around 2010s. For example here playing video games was a rare thing until mid-2000s despite arcade was popular but its popularity was a flame quickly extinguished in half a decade because "it's stupid to keep playing for it" and it's why Atari 2600 -> fake NES consoles and Sega Genesis was so popular but only among niche gamers when not many people played games and knew they exist. I was living in a big city and there was only 1 shop selling video games and whatnot for a long time and it became 2 and 3rd and 4th was too late so they are shot down by new "anti-piracy laws" lol.

As for why lots of people grew up and stopped watching animes, it was because "it is a cartoon and therefore it's childish" thing. I also thought so too because Dragon Ball and Pokemon was childish AF. Captain Tsubasa was slice of life yet why it was childish was because whatever happens is against laws of physics lol. As you get old you get more sensitive to "what doesn't make sense" unless you are person who knows how to enjoy life or you go crazy. So I didn't take animes seriously until I met one of my best friends who is too into animes. He taught me these are called animes and then he introduced me Death Note. I was interested in it because it wasn't childish and no "stupid anime shit" in it, and then I started to give chance to anime and thus I really found legendary animes like Psycho-Pass and all so I realized there are 4 aspects of animes: Animes for kids, animes for girls, animes for perverts and then animes for grown up people (I don't mean porn or some shit, I mean animes that actually have a sign of intelligence it aims for instead of playing for primitive urges). Then I met people who watch animes but they only limit themselves to animes for grown up people so they also introduced me to some animes. Without them I guess I would always think animes are for little kids or pervert insane people lol, however not many people are open minded as much as me and they won't have people in this country who is into anime. Because I'm open minded that's why in my country I was present in very different social aspect of my country enough to meet tons of people in my life to gain POV from every side to get to know about my society. And because I'm trying to be objective and being open minded as much as possible and all I care about is fun that is why I was a person who could change my mind about animes but as people get old they tend to be narrow minded and get lost in the jungle of their "should" and bias statements. Which is why for anyone whom anime didn't mean anything to them personality when they grow up and anyone who never introduced an aspect of anime that their grown up adult ass can relate they will never stop underestimating animes after they will leave it behind to feel "adult" just like stopping playing with toys and kill the child in themselves that actually kills their humanity. What a shame!!! lol
Where I live anime is massive but its still very niche among the general population of 35 and up, whereas its much more popular in other countries, long story short the gen x'er and baby boomer generation assume animation = kids entertainment and that affects things still in the UK and Ireland, animation is seen as sub par art essentially.

People just not liking things anymore and generally losing interest in things over time, even hating "childish" things etc. is probably a fairly simple case of as many people get older they don't have time for anything and become depressed and disinterested in things.

That said most people don't really like much outside of a few TV shows, sports and books, most are happy with whatever is on the radio as an example, with no effort made to seek out much else. It's a bit like how undecided voters think and that is a lot people. The norm is just that, the norm, ain't no normies on here, only philosophers and statisticians!

I used to think so until I watched Death Note, and then just recently I started to think the whole American media is childish at "teen level" the most due to how mindless it is. Perverted, stupid, primitive, simple... at least anime could became for general audiance to "only for mature people" stuff yet American media is dropping down to a baby level despite this ain't cartoon lol.

Fundamentally people have wrong notion about what is childish. Part of it is what "kids" tend to do so their "us vs them mentality" being triggered during puberty and makes them get out of "child group" to join "the adult group".

Most people learn by observing examples and mimic the behavior to be. So they observe adults that are insane and depressed + perverted and primitive so this is what they believe this is what being an adult here. But in reality by getting rid of the "kid" in themselves they actually repressing their humanity that makes them brainless kinda in literal sense. Imagine stopping your thoughts, emotions and wishes just because you deem them as "childish" and forcing yourself to be whom you actually don't want, this is fundamental reason why people going insane but society believe this is normal. In the mental hospital one sane person will be abnormal and insane to other patients lol.

Well most people have tendency to be lazy. Because of it they follow other sheep and monitor what is popularity to be a normal person and that's all about it.

Most people don't want to be their real self because they see it as pointless and wrong, what they see the point on is being socially acceptable "superior" person image in their culture and therefore they all are a fake wannabes. I would call them an NPC but they have no "programming" to begin with, they are just faceless mirrors reflecting nothingness and BS!!! lol

>Thing gets popular
>A whole bunch of outsiders or "tourists" come in liking said thing
>Tourists eventually outnumber "true" fans who were there since the beginning or close to it a million to one
>Creators change their work to cater to tourists leaving true fans in the dust
>Thing goes bad and it's time to leave
It's not just anime! It's every goddamned thing under the sun! So much so that it could be a natural law!
