Like fr if a playerbase drops from 250000 to 249999 per year ppl automatically wanna discredit the game for being "dead".

And I hear these excuses from players like "I liked the game but its kinda dead now", bitch the playerbase didnt change that much, why dont you just enjoy the game until it actually dies out (speaking specifically about multiplayer games, cuz caring about a singleplayer game being dead is stupid).

If this topic is aimed at multiplayer games, I would move it to General Online Talk. As you say, single player games can't be dead.

"Dead" can mean many things and stupid people mean "reduced popularity" in this context, hence why 1 player drop is "dying alas alas" panic for them lolol.

This logic was annoying in Battlefield fan base for example, complaining basically all of them are dead even when tons of people still playing them. And their logic was "too few servers active" when it doesn't prevent you from waiting your line for hours to play on a server SMH.

In the end as long as there are people whom you can play the game with an online game won't die even if it is you play with same 20 people or something.

And then this is the logic how a "singleplayer game" can die for them, that "it ain't popular anymore". Remember that these brain dead people live their life according to what is popular. They buy a game they will never play just because it's popular and they throw shit at games that was never popular for their taste and any game loses its popularity and shit.

General gaming discussion mane, don't be a party popper.

Because it's inflammatory and invites controversy, and therefore attention. Also, gamers have inflated standards on what constitutes "dead." I play old games that regularly have full servers, especially during peak hours, that many others would consider dead purely because of the low total player count.

A friend of mine said 2 months ago that Repo "was dead" and Peak was the next big thing, little did he know that both games had about the same number of players at the time, LOL

It's just they are brain dead enough to can't figure out most of online games won't be that active all the time compared to around launch, and then naturally there will be a drop on player base to skeleton members who like to play the game often. That's like common sense they are ignorant of. And they don't even think how the game is dead when even 1000 people playing it and making every server basically full prevent them from playing the game or something. Sometimes it can suck to keep playing with same people but still no "dead" thingy or some shit.

I understand people may have "shit of the game dies it will be a waste of money" but the thing is online games never meant to last forever. They are like a flower that you enjoy them for a while and then it's gone. That's the way it's!!!

Yah I think that's on point yall. I've heard a lot of ppl saying gmod RP isn't worth because the servers are "dead", when they even reach the user limit at the morning, like wth.
Some of my friends generally decide what to play based on how popular it is at the moment instead of how much they like the game, so I think some people may also be trying to justify that by calling games dead or mocking the playerbase or smth.

The fact that I don't know what Peak is shows how out of touch I am yall

It's just a stupid people mentality of "being on the winning team" logic lol like if they won't play Valorant but play Hawken they will be an inferior person SMH.

I think "dead" should be reserved for games you can't actually play anymore, like the Android version of Hellgate: London -- it connects to nothing and cannot be even started up anymore.

Calling games with less players "dead" only distracts from the real issue.

Hype culture, mostly.

For people on the Internet, specially in gaming circles, things are either on a meteoric rise or free fall, no in-between.

I don't play FFXIV anymore but I still follow some people who do and after the latest expasion (Dawntrail) wasn't as popular as the one before (Endwalker), people started to doompost calling the game dead.
Mind you, Endwalker was the climax of a 10-year storyline and it delivered masterfuly while Dawntrail was, in word of the devs, a low stakes vacation for your character.

With time, I learned to don't listen to these kind of people and just enjoy things regardles if they are popular or "dead"

In that regard it's why I technically cannot even call Hawken "dead" despite its official servers are literally dead and gone because fans makes the online aspect of the game active. Thus there are lots of old games being kept alive still to this day and sometimes they are revived after decades so they gone from "dead" to "I'm still alive motherfucker" lol.

Actually it’s not just in games some people tend to call something’s “dead” even to a slightest decrease in audience or fandom. People like really want to see that certain media die and video games is one of them.

Not counting fan servers...
I mean the legit servers run by the parent company that made the game.
I see a game as dead when the server is gone. As @Waffles said, you can't connect anymore.

City of Heroes is dead, The Matrix Online is dead, Star Wars Galaxies has been dead for a long time.

I don't know about people calling a game dead because the user base drops by 10% percent or even half. But a game is not truly dead until it is unplayable in any way, shape, or form.

Again... yes fan servers exist, but that's a small amount of games that have been resurrected from the dead thanks to fans saving them. I know a lot have been saved, but overall, it's still a drop in the bucket.

reminds me of the eternal "PHP is dead" debacle hahaha, that programming language has been declared dead over and over again for the last 30 years, and it's still going strong despite everything the community says.

Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my leg... and my arm... even my fingers. The online game progressions I've lost... the online comrades I've lost... the online games I've lost... won't stop hurting... It's like they're all still there in my PC sending me "u gay" messages when it's 3 AM!!! You feel it too, don't you? I'm gonna make them give back our past! I'll drop atomic bomb on Nintendo and send Metal Gear at Sega so they will release Sega Genesis 2 and I'll make sure Need for Speed: World will return!!!! lolol

Dead is one thing while others are for some reason deliberately killed.
I experienced it first hand there’s this mobile fps called N.O.V.A. (Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance) Legacy that for some reason went offline and suddenly got delisted from both PlayStore and AppStore almost a year ago. Despite a steady number of regular player base Gameloft (Ubisoft’s mobile games subsidiary) shut down the servers.

gamers are special
Hiya moonbits u're special too

Also had to endure the DBZ community trying to sway people from playing Sparking Zero cuz the playerbase lowered by like 10 people. I think they just wanna see stuff fail so they can feel better with themselves idk
