Whether it's Historian or Media we often come up with how great some of them were centuries if not millennia ago.

We often remember about Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome, Ancient China and the Meso American civilisations among others less known yet still relevant as well.

There are many fictive universes also referring to ancient civilisations that were technologically advanced (which is a trope I still am fond of) as well to give some life to that world, to give it a proper past for the story not just having a temple only to be a dungeon.

History is always studied and evolving so we always get to learn new things regarding our past.

I'll add a small music to go with the theme

It's the sense of wonder, the ambiguity they they may or may not have advanced ways that are lost to us. Really Fascinating indeed. ::winkfelix
"Advanced" is a bit relative because there's more than one way of being advanced (not just scientifically).

I still like the idea that the Ancient Greeks had a computer (okay, an analogue one but still computing).

Yeah. To me it is bit of realizing how similar some life and society structures are there. Stuff about "Remember history or be ready to repeat it" stuff where we could look at history and even ancient societies for stuff we oughta keep in mind since we are still vulnerable doing similar mistakes.

Of course there is exploration aspect to it. The one who comes into remains of a dead civilization to find out and wonder what it all was for etc. One extension to this I think is also stories from point of view of future society, exploring remains of ours. Like how little information we actually leave behind if we loose electricity and our computers, as almost all of our records now are digital, and not nearly as eternal as written records on physical medium like rocks papers and walls. Our way of life for any rebuilt civilization after fall would truly be mysterious.

Well, some of their structures and cities may have lived, but culturally we are a continuation of them. Ancient Mesoamerican civilizations are dead but the people still live on and remember them through traditions and way of living. There's still a connection to our forefathers and we like to learn more about them.

I really like the Roman Empire especially the reign of Jules Cesar. Where he conquer all expect one village of Gaul the two legendary warrior live on this village year 50bc.

I find it fascinating to see that no matter how many 1000s of years humans still stupid, still greedy and some how with more technology even dumber and lazy.

I still think of Ea Nasir's tablet.
