I discovered Touhou music by a random YT vid, and since them I've been hooked.(Necrofantasia track is my fav)

I was more curious from the perspective of someone who has also played the games extensively in addition to the other Touhou-related content. Do they consider fans that never played the games 'fans'? It's more of a half-serious question

I don't think they mind lol from what I've seen around the web, it’s kinda a common joke anyway, most usually only know IOSYS anyway.

It's mostly just a meme or inside joke in the fandom, as a lot of fans are more into the fanmade stuff and side content. You'll be fine as long as you're okay with some ribbing.
