since we're just dropping stories of romantic failures.
here's my contribution, so gather around kids i have a story to tell you
.
.
it goes all the way back to 3rd grade.
I have this japanese exchange student whom I get along with really well, she doesnt know how to speak english nor my native language so i speak to her with gestures and minimal japanese i learn from watching anime. she's had a pretty sad school like when she transferred in considering no one talks to her and pretty much avoids her because of the language barrier, and obviously me being the absolute "can't have that shit like this happening to someone" (also because im a fucking weeb) i approached her and talked to her.
since then I've become her first ever friend in school, and I became her chaperone to help her get around the school and practically her go to guy when she needs help with something and conveniently enough the teachers found out and sat me next to her, i remember when she intentionally drops her pencil case so i would pick it up for her. and me teaching her how to speak my native language.
thinking about it i think i was the only person in school who she addressed with by their first name.
anyway, its 5th grade now and she can speak minimal english and my native language now.
and that dreaded day came....
the teachers decide to arrange the seats in class and i'm seated away from her, i remember that day vividly because she was crying really hard and hated that im seated away from her.
obviously I comforted her and told her that it not going to be that bad, and im always going to be there anyway, we can still hangout during recess.
fast forward a bit.
its summer and obvious i'm a dumb brat so i had to attend summer classes.
she was attending it too (which i found out later she really didnt need to, she just does it to see me or hangout with me).
fast forward a bit more its 6th grade now.. graduation time...
we did the graduation ceremony thingy majingy and goes on our seperated ways.

2 years later, it hit me and realize that this whole time she was flirting with me and dropping obvious hints the whole damn 4 years we've been classmates. and me being the dense motherfucker i am did not get the fucking hint, so in those 4 years i could have been dating a Kawaii japanese school girl.

Then we be like a couple that gets sent to different worlds of only one gender and have to find our way back to our world running through many complications or friends in school ::smug

My condolences, kokonatsu17234.
I hope, someday, you will meet her again.
I have faith in you...

I've had a few notable romantic failures, but I think the one that stuck with me the most was once when I was trying to gauge if a girl that, at the time I thought was a friend of mine, might be interested in dating me. Generally speaking when we talked it was friendly, but I quickly found out when I mentioned a rumor I'd heard that we might be dating that she didn't even like me in the first place. If you've ever seen memes of people saying "the worst she can say is no", I can tell you it's not, but a very dramatic and drawn out "ew" followed up with "Why would anyone think that? I don't even like you." is probably pretty close.

Upon further introspection, I've came to the conclusion that some kind of serious commited relationship is not out of the question for me.

I'd be reeeeeeeeally picky about it though.

That's harsh, sorry you went through that

If anything, I'm just glad that in the end I sorta dodged a bullet I guess. Like yeah, it definitely sucked at the time, but I can only imagine how much worse it could have been if I actually asked her out or something. It was also probably the main experience I had that taught me not to take people at face value at least, so it's not like I got nothing out of it in the long run I guess. Definitely not a person knowing what I know now that I'd have stayed with indefinitely either anyway.

I appreciate you sharing your unfortunate dates and dating attempts with us, friends.

Now, to balance things out...what's the best date you've been on?

This could be interpreted in a variety of ways, depending on what the goal of a date is for each person. Even if things don't work out romantically, but you make a new friend, that is also a win in my book. For my experiences, I'll discount ones I've had that were fun but lead to nothing substantial, I'd rather find a relationship from a date instead of just getting lucky.

It was Fall 2012. Occasionally I'd go into a grocery store near where I worked and end up chatting with one of the managers, who also cashiered, over the course of a few months. Always friendly small talk, and it seemed genuine, but I generally don't want to hit on anyone who is at work, because what if they're not interested? You've kind of put them on the spot and trapped them, so to speak, since they can't just leave to avoid you. Anyway, after a few months, I thought, what the hell, and asked for her number since I was fairly sure the interest was mutual. Got the digits, and we met up for dinner at Red Robin. The conversation was great, and the attraction seemed there. Afterward we saw a movie at a nearby theater since we didn't want the date to end, I think it was the James Bond movie Skyfall. Funny how that's the same date setup for my worst date, but the company you're with really does make all the difference. Anyway, things were positive and we couldn't wait to see each other again. We did see each other after that for a while, and had good conversations through text inbetween, but for whatever reason she lost interested and ghosted after a while. Anyway, it was a very simple date, but effective. I've had other dates that were almost as fun, but things either died immediately afterward, or I already knew the person as a friend beforehand so it felt less impactful.

Don't cry so much about your love stories failures. "Tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all."

One of the best dates I ever had was with a long term gf, I think we were both 17 or I'd just turned 18. We were on holiday, so we woke up together, had a slow stroll through a seaside town, got some light food, and laughed alot along the way. We went mini-golfing and ended up at a ballroom on the coast where we met up with our families and then she and I slow danced together. I don't know for how long, time kind of stopped. Then we went home and went to bed.

I doubt it when someone want to date with me
Ask someone for a date, you may be surprised what they say! If not, we'll go on a date. You gotta choose a film to watch tho, cos I'm choosing what game we play ?

god dammit I felt in love with a hentai character
Interesting, do you mind sharing?

Now, to balance things out...what's the best date you've been on?
Usual stuff, we went to amusement park and cafe, talked for few hours, go home, nothing special.

That's so boringggg my first date was looking for my lost dog (lmao)
I know, it wasn't long before the 'incident' so I haven't unlock much of the features yet.
