Mega Man Megathread

How fucking dare you insult my boy like this. Bass is objectively the best Mega Man character ever created.

Also, this entire post is one giant bad take.
:)

Okay but the real best is TOADMAN

Recalling Toad Man's Dancing, I figured something right now.
Pretty much, has some similar design with Wire Sponge (from Megaman X2).
As if the developers had taken Toad Man and mutated him (and taught him new dance moves) into Wire Sponge.

I present to you my take on the Mega Man timeline(s), summarized in this chart. It's not pretty, I know, but hopefully it's still understandable.

"Dr. Wily slips on a banana peel and dies"
Wily plays Mario Kart?

On a more serious note, I remember Inafune saying something about Wily being a component of the Sigma virus, though I don't remember him explaining how or if that's even canon. Would that shift Wily's expiration event to the line between Classic and Power Battle?

No. In my headcanon, the arcade games split from the rest of the classic series after Mega Man 8, but before Mega Man & Bass. At that point, Dr. Wily would still be alive, and he would die between The Power Fighters and the Mega Man X series.

LOVE-LOVE-LOVE (most of) the Mega Man games.

I've not tried ZX yet.

IMO, MM 1 & 2 are unplayable. ?

MM Powered Up should have had sequels! ::angrygenjin

I'll forever love the Saturn ports of 8 and X4 better than the PSX because you can set the controller up to comfortably have a special equipped the the whole game and still use the default buster (set B to jump, Y for buster, and A for special)

Don't care what anyone says, the 8-bit Xtreme GBC games are RAD!

I once tried to lead a project to hack together a "special edition" rom hack that compiled the Original NES games into one rom ala Mario All-Stars and alternate select-able character sprites... It failed (working with peeps on the net, man... ?‍♂️)

I know I'm super late to this, but oh my LORD do I love Megaman X8. It was my first Mega Man game and it has such an unbeatable atmosphere. At the very least you owe it to yourself to emulate it!

Is there any Mega Man media (other than Mega Man Legends 3) you're sad got canceled?

About a year or two ago I played a least halfway through the first MMBN. I liked the setting and the battle system was cool overall, but I couldn't stand how long and especially convoluted the dungeons were. Random encounters get incredibly annoying when you're always dealing with some annoying puzzle that sends you all over the place. Even the network itself was a confusing mess of a maze, navigating it was a pain. So in the end I dropped it. But I heard the sequels improve on that. I also hear lots of opinions about which one is best. Some say 3, others say 3 has lots of backtracking. If I'm going to beat just one of them, which one should it be, knowing I don't want anymore headaches?

I'd second playing them in order. The stories are connected from what I remember and they're all kinda the same. The only thing I really remember getting better is the battle system but it's been a long time since I played them.

If you only want to play one then I recommend Rockman.EXE Operate Shooting Star.
It's an enhanced port of the first game to the DS with refinements from the later games and some extra crossover story from the Mega Man Star Force series.
Japanese only but there is a fan translation patch available.

The first. The games have an ongoing story. You will be confused as shit starting with 5 or 6.
BN4 is where the games really connect their stories, but that's also widely considered the worst one, do not start with that
For the gameplay, a lot agree that 3, 5, and 6 are pretty fun
