As for me, I have inserted an r4 Gold Pro and a Supercard SD on my pink DS Lite. The r4 is from 2020 and is an excellent cartridge: I don't use its own chinese kernel, because it gave problems during saves, but YSMenu (alternative cfw) which, despite being aesthetically and functionally very simple and frugal, has good compatibility with titles DS and a large assortment of cheat codes. It also serves to circumvent the so-called "time bomb", the expiration (with relative software blocking/bricking) of chinese kernel after a given time.

The Supercard SD, although slow for certain demanding games, is perfect in the case of jrpgs and action games, and useful as a RAM expansion pack for emulators such as NeoDS and JEnesisDS. It also supports soft resets, cheat codes, save states, and can use two alternative custom kernels that have been in development for several months (see the gba forum on GBAtemp) that introduce additional features.

In the blue DSi I use, in addition to TwilightMenu++ on SD-card, a clone of Ace3DS+ with Wood software: this, in addition to a nicer graphic interface, has almost absolute compatibility with DS titles. Never found a game that didn't work with it.
And what flashcarts do you use nowadays? And on which console? Do any of you still have the legendary  DSTwo card? Maybe post some photos of your things, if you feel like it. Thank you.

I use the r4 on my hacked 3DS. It's pretty much perfection. Have all the great DS games, plus 3DS games, as well as all the retros like GBA, which runs native on the thing. IMO, a hacked 3ds is the greatest handheld Nintendo ever made. Along with the small size, and the case swaps you could do.

the super card for me had messed up sound and the save didn't work. Must of had a dead battery. I have an m3 real ds and it worked with gba too untill the battery died too.

DStwo for NDS games and TwilightMenu++ for DSi. I'll probably switch to TwilightMenu++ entirely if my DStwo ever dies because as good as it is it isn't worth the crazy ebay prices.

Do you still need a flashcard for 3DS or can you mod it in a way similar to PSP? I still have my R4 but no DS Lite anymore. It does not work in my 3DS. I'm guessing it's too outdated. Uses Wood.

3ds is super easy to mod in 2024 and no need for a flashcart.

DSi XL is modded with 32g memory card and there is an R4i card with a 32g card as well. Same rom set, just wanted a dust cover for the cart slot. Only use it for DS games.

2DS XL is modded with an R4i card with 32g memory card, why use up the 2DS memory when I can put the cart slot to use. 2DS XL has 256g with the 300 game limit almost reached. It's all 3DS games as well, if the limit was higher than 300 without need of an app to see them then I would toss in some custom GBA cia

PSP 3000 is modded with 128g card, about 90ish PSP games and about 90ish PS1 games. PSP is an amazing little RPG machine.

Isn't there a DS section on the forums? Whatever, I found this anyway! I've been using an Acekard 2i in various systems since 2011 and am looking to make a change. "R4" and "R4i" mean about as much as "oven" and "stove", though, one reason I switched to Acekard back then, and those cards are most of what I'm seeing here...should I just get another Acekard if that still annoys me?

Oh yeah, also EZFlash Omega on my GBA and EZFlash Jr. on my GB/C, though mostly for recording music since I tend to emulate those systems.

Just to add onto what you said, I'd also recommend putting on the homebrew app TwilightMenu++ so you can play any DS games you put on your SD card.
Didn't know about this! I might not get another DS flash cart after all...thank you for the pointer!

I have a DSLite i use a clone R4 upgrade revo that had a timebomb trigger a few years ago so I use Twilightmenu++ and/or YSmenu to get past the timebomb.

Is there any incentive to using an R4 on a 3DS? I just have my New 3DS modded with a giant (for the 3DS) 128GB SD card I had lying around and I just load it up with games whenever I get the chance. I guess you don't have to have CFW on your 3DS when using R4.

Being able to run DS games, and more importantly Moonshell. I hear it isn't a requisite for the former anymore though!

Yeah idk when it happened but when I modded back in 2020 I was able to load up DS games just fine. Never looked into DS Homebrew though so I can't speak on if Moonshell or the homebrew run through Moonshell would be compatible with CFW on 3DS.

I'll have to test it out once I try TwilightMenu! Moonshell is the only reason I would bring my 3DS with me for a long time. It relies on configuration files, though...

Some cursory googling says that it works with TwilightMenu++ but idk if that's true. What are some things Moonshell is useful for that I can't get on 3DS otherwise?

i thought about getting one of those. fortunately, the new 3ds can let you skip using a flash cart and just cram the games onto the sd card. 128gb sd card and its about half full.

Currently using the EX Flash Parallel in my DS. It's only $25 and works better than my old R4i.
Hey pal, what's the good thing about this new flashcard? I hear a lot of bad things about it, unfortunately. It's aesthetically very nice, compared to others, though. ??‍♂️
