I heard back in the day there was a lot of bullying primarily in School when you enjoyed video games as it was seen as anti social a looser hobby for children and nerds as they call it.

I myself never really witnessed such thing and I grew up early to mid 2000s but I was lucky enough I guess to had classmates who also enjoyed Video Games we often played NDS together Worms to be precise.
Anyhow I am not aware however how it was in the rest of the School one dick once hit my NDS and made it fall down (Its been a while back I think it was like that, but I don't think it was for me being a Gamer and more so because he was a dick)

So this is what I am wondering where you ever being mistreated aka bullied for openly being a Video Gamer in your youth or adult life be it at School or at Work ?

at least for what I can tell is that it is not a prevalent anymore since it became ''Mainstream'' and many people like Games nowadays..this explains why those soulless slop games sell so darn well because the Tourists outnumber real gamers by a large margin.
Anyhow its been a while however since I attended School I know I am a old fart but the point stands I can't say how it is nowadays maybe you get bullied for not watching Skibiddy toilet or something nowadays who knows.

i mean, did people say i was a "nerd" and all that absolutely
i spent my time with the other fellow gamers and nerds so really not that bad.
but some people took the gaming too far...
i don't think anyone deserves to be bullied, but...

I knew a guy who was an absolute hardcore gamer, you know, the kinda who wavedash on smash at every opportunity, overlap everyone else on mario kart, perfect IV all their pokemon and perfect every counter giving you absolutely no room to win, and go for infinites in marvel vs capcom every chance they get.

the one particular A-hole in my high school, everybody hated him, we had game meetings during lunch and after school and he' was always there, nobody wanted him there, he was such a tryhard, smartass, like allaround annoying person to be around. even other fellow gamers hated him
i mean like, we tried to setup game meets in secret, it was THAT BAD, we had to keep changing where we hang out. and he was just an asshole regardless, i just gamed with my close friends and left it at that.

one time i managed a win against him in smash melee, and i was in the zone and happy and all that and he was a complete asshole for like 20 minutes (the whole lunch period) talking shit like "1v1 me no items and see what happens" kinda dick. i BLEW up on him so hard and swear to god the rest of the room was like "F*** you stop being an asshole" and all that, and well... he just stopped showing up to all our gaming hangouts entirely.
such a dick and i it still bugs me to this day (since 2006) and no idea what happened to him after that but yeah he deserved it, i won, i'm not even GOOD at smash bros, i DON'T know how to wavedash, none of that crap. it was a lucky win, that's all... comes in my mind anytime i play smash bros

Dang that sounds annoying as fuck, luckily I did not have someone like that show up when I and the homies played Worms on the NDS but I had a annoying kid who wanted to borrow a Ps2 game from me He and I did not really get along and I did not like him either nor did I trust him also well he made it very clear he is supposed to hate me since I am American and so on,so yes I did not fancy his company.

And it was mind boggling after such a statement expecting me to borrow him any games like at all that was my one School, but I switched Schools late on anyway and sadly at my next School we never played Video Games together one was a fellow Gamer the other one I have no clue in my new friend group.(Which was small 2 People) 3 with me included
Sadly we hardly could play together since he was a PC Gamer (Minecraft) and I was a Console Kid I also got later Minecraft out of curiosity. but the Ps3 version which has no cross platform.

I did get sometimes bullied tho but not because I am a gamer not sure why exactly I was the new kid many times that likely did not help.(I was in 6 different Schools, yes it was shitty)

No. It seems that while Halo was still regarded as nerdy somehow everybody had their favorite franchises and the like. People were more likely to jump you because you borrowed a game didn't get it back to them in time than to piss on you because you liked nerdy video games.

I was laughed at for not liking the right video games.
I didn't play Call of Duty, Ragnarok Online, I wasn't good at Counter Strike or any of the NBA games.
Basically everyone around me was a ball and gun player and I wasn't.
Yeah, that sounds like the late Aughties or early New Tens. I was into all the games (even some sports games, but I certainly am not a fan of NBA 2Kxx games and playing them is embarrassing as hell for me because I suck ass at them) and had a rep that made nobody willing to push me around but it was certainly something that many people I've met experienced cruelty for.

I never played those games either but those are typical classics people look at you weird when you say you did no play them nor have any interest of playing them.

Twas early to mid 2000s.
But you know what? None of it mattered, because I get to come home and play exploding cars, ninjas with big tits, wrestling girls in bikinis and better boss battles than anything those games had.

Yeah that's true.

I feel like I need to make a bunch of references to Burnout, DOA and Rumble Roses all the sudden but, uh, I got nothing.

'>' tbh i have tried to talk with my schoolmates about mario and megaman, but since none of them know it i basically never talk about game at school.

and only grind at home

I can't believe that was a legit commercial lol but well the game is fun as heck.

I personally early 2000s played Worms 3D and Rayman 2 and Beyond Good and Evil on my Ps2.

I've never seen anyone ever get made fun of for liking video games irl.
Not in the 90s and not in the 2000s either. At that time, dudes who were into sports or cars also enjoyed stuff like star craft, heroes 3, half life, counter strike, mortal kombat, etc and also played around with their pcs and had a mild interest in computer hardware. They considered any 'computer geek' they met as a potential source of information on the subject. Girls at the time didn't really have an opinion on the subject for the most part, although some displayed some mild interest. Don't get me wrong, there was a bunch of other stuff people made fun of each other over, but not the notion of being a 'geek'.
I always thought that judging geeks was a strictly american cultural thing, since I saw scenarios like that in some of their cartoons and movies. I kind of always figured that's what most people on the internet were referencing.

Yes I personally only ever seen it in American Media with the typical cliques of Jockies Nerds and so on.

Can't think of any incidents.

If anything, if you went to certain arcades bitd you would feel like a badass playing kof with gang members and delinquents.

You would probably be MORE popular if you had the latest systems and games. At least for a few weeks until they were done using you or stole your game.

Maybe some kids were beat up by older kids for wearing Pokémon stuff. I could definitely see me doing that that happening from a totally random kid that was not me.

Not bullied, peeps just poked fun at me for certain games I like and some anime. I think maybe more way back before nerd culture was cool.

No, but my classmates are into EFootball (former FIFA), Clash Royale and Brawl Stars and since i'm not into these games, we don't have anything to talk about games.

ironically enough i was bullied for everything but being a gamer

I worked part time during school years as bully beater, I'm pretty sure people talked about me behind my back tho.

uhhh yes and no.
it was less for being a gamer overall and moreso for the fact i preferred jrpgs over what everyone was playing which back then would have been like halo, cod and gta.

Never, all my friends and most people I knew back in school liked or were interested in gaming. It was commom to hit the local arcades or playing together at somebody's home after school or weekends. Bullying was a thing sure, but for other reasons.

Yes.

Especially during my Pokemon obsession — my own sister would torment me on a daily basis until I stopped playing.
