Overwhelmed by fire emblem 4

I have played almost every Fire Emblem game except Three Houses and the original NES titles. Many people told me Fire Emblem 4 was worth trying, so I was really excited to play it. However, the first chapter is absolutely massive! There are so many villages to visit—is it normal to miss some? The story also throws a lot at you right away, whereas most Fire Emblem games start with a simple premise. I haven't even finished Chapter 1 yet, and the UI is very confusing. I also heard there is a second generation of units. What do I need to know before going forward, without any spoilers?

just use guide. sometimes you need to bring certain unit to certain spot to trigger an event. sometimes you need to wait for several turns for something. this game is a horse walking simulator. i skip this one and play thracia instead.
