Ever get overwhelmed with your own backlog?
I've been feeling like I have too many options now, some extra context since I was young, buying video games has been my cope.
Back in 2023ish, my health told me to simply go fuck yourself, so I started buying more games just to cope, adding another and another to the backlog. Now, I have like 291 switch games in total, mainly Physical. This is just a simple example of how many games I own. I also buy games on other platforms. I rarely get the chance to play them since I have a busy life, but sometimes, when I have the time, I'm too overwhelmed with how many options I have to play anything.
I still like playing games in general, but I just get overwhelmed by the options sometimes.

i don't have nearly games as you but i know the sensation, i have 5 consoles in total and feel like i have to play at least one game in each of em so i'm not wasting time

i'm right now playing one game on psp, 3ds and ps3 and trying to balance the time between them is a pain, but i feel like i'm extracting the best from each game without getting bored, i think this strategy made me enjoy the time that i play on each console much more

i have already a backlog as well and I'm aiming to play on my ps2 soon when i finish one of the games that i'm playing

Only one solution.
Compress your options to individual consoles. Bigger is preferred for storage.
Put your current options on a wheel and spin it. Whatever wins is being played. GameCube, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360, matter of fact just any console after the 4th generation (most handhelds and N64 nonwithstanding because they’re tiny) put those on a wheel, just do it, make your dreams come true.

I've been thinking of doing this, but I don't know a website or program that saves the wheel. I don't want to have to type in all the names each time. I already have a list sorted by console on Google Sheets.

i've finished 1400 anime, and i still have 789+ things i have planned to pick up eventually
::koishigun 😂
the worst part is, my rate of watching has slowed down (although when i recently picked up one piece last year end of march, i proved to myself that i haven't lost my edge at all, sometimes watching more than 20 episodes a day, given that the opening and long recaps and every flashback i skip)

i definitely know that feeling of having too many choices to actually pick something
and when you have many concurrent things going on, then it's hard to go back to some of them sometimes, yeah

When it comes to watching things, I am horrible with it. I'll watch 3 episodes to 12 episodes one day then watch another 3 to 12 episodes a month or so later, unless I'm watching something in a group with people. But even then, I delay the group sometimes.

I just write the list, copy paste it and bam, automatically on the wheel. If you separate them via the enter key, they all automatically get counted as separate entries

291…what!?

The "backlog" is an illusion. The sooner you realize you were never going to play at least 50% of those games, and probably much more, the better for your sanity.

Nowadays, I have a very hard time picking which game to play. And sometimes I suddenly don’t feel like playing it for some reason.

I got a bit of a backlog in the PS2 / Wii era. So took a good look at myself and have never bought another console since. Zero regrets. 15 years later I just have a few games left in the backlog. If I were you I would prioritise any games with online elements that may be withdrawn. Stupidly I left MKWii and Animal Crossing Wii until almost last in my backlog, long after peak online activity had ended. Don't do what I did!

Now I only add a game to my backlog (which is now PC based) if the game is old, has stood the test of time (hype and PR are allies of the evil backlog demon) and I can get it for under $3 on GoG. I have dozens of such games but don't feel remotely bad about such a cheap backlog. I'm happy for it to go over 100 games if it is that cheap as it will only be the cost of 3 or 4 full price new games.

If you complain about your addiction, change it, start i.e. collecting valueable stamps or somethng.
I have a backlog 100.000+ games and any consoles/handhelds.
I became the Collector!
Im videogame software pirate by nature? and you're All Pirates too !, if you ever downloaded a Game from this site or web!
I smile because new handheld/console owners, whom buy overprized games gets angry at negative comments on this Piratesite?!
My justification for my addiction was in early videogaming evolution.
I always bought the new released consoles/handhelds at full prices and always bought new worthfull games at full prices.

But as always soon boredom kicks when present system and games gets outdated, no more worthfull games to pay for it.
When the any system gets hacked and pirated games available and possible, that lead to my addiiction today.
With later generations till PS4Pro and XboxOneX, I stopped buying any new gen consoles/handhelds hardwares till they can be hacked.
As with later and newest games/(consoles) are all crappy anyway, thats why RETRO Gaming is popular.
Nowadays its more the trill of hacking/modding any new/old system and collecting games.

So I will only buy a Switch2 when its get hacked!, so be it.

Accept the fact that your time on this plane of existence is very limited and you will never be able to play every single thing out there.
Personally, I'd rather have fun with a single game for all my life than be stressed about finishing some checklist of games until it's too late.

Almost every game you purchased is gonna be fun to play, so you can't lose!

Go to your videogame library, close your eyes, start cycling though games and then just click play on one at random. Play it for a few minutes. If you're feeling it, awesome, if not, simply try again. ::chocobo-wave

When I look at the abyss, it looks back.

That’s true. I would also add that some games you hype up in your brain as amazing turn out to be “just okay” in the end. So it is always best to just have as much fun as you can.

My backlog is beleaguered; don't care for it.

my backlog has been tormenting me these past few weeks but its my fault i like jrpgs but also i dont have that much time to play so i pick 50-80hrs long games and only play like 2 hours every other day so it takes forever to finish anything teehee teehee.

I have a lot to play but so little time to spare nowadays but I always try to make it possible to play a couple of games a year and just focus on having as much fun as I can with whatever it is that I'm currently playing.

P.S. Sorry not being active, admins. I haven't posted in a while. I know I'm still new here but I just don't want people to think that I have left as I still occasionally log on every now and then.

even though it's hard for me to admit, i often buy games just to own them because i like the feeling of having a collection, the ownership of games. but deep down i know they can take those from me anytime, because that's how it is for digital games. it has happened to me, and it will continue to happen.

my backlog is huge, but i rarely pay attention to its size. games will continue to come out, and my backlog will continue to grow. there's more important things in my life right now that i need to take care of, and i know i will eventuallly have the time to play most of the games i'm interested in. give time to time.

Mine is pretty large (I have 141 games on my Backloggery, and I know for a fact that's not even all of them), but I've been slowly chipping at it. It's inspired me to finally finish a lot of games I've already had, and a few I was at the final boss for. Some I enjoyed quite a bit (Momodora 4, Splatterhouse 2010), and some I didn't enjoy (FF12 Revenant Wings (final boss game), Splatterhouse 2010).

Worst part is, I don't get reward chemicals from my brain for finishing the latter category. Just exhaustion and the feeling that I wasted my time. The terribleness is compounded by it not being completed weighing on my mind a little if I leave it be. Brains are fun.
