When did you get your first console and was it?

Well, my first family console was Atari 2600...
But the first console that was mostly mine, was a Famicom clone, and if i remember correctly, it was around 2000...

The interesting thing is that where i live, NES (and famicom clones) are generally known as "Micro"!

Are you referring to the Dendy console?

I misunderstood gaming chronology and history for long time because of this.
I was born in 92, and I remember a NES we had as a first console. So, poorer, we likely got a NES around 94 or 95. We even had a dendy before that. From there, at some point we likely got a used SNES and then finally a brand new PS1, but at 97 or 98 when it had few years in market and was likely cheaper. Or it also was used at this point, just in a box. I am also guessing but for long time I was almost sure that NES came out in 92 and SNES and Sega (just sega, not mega drive that was it's name: Sega there was no super sega and there for sure was not 8bit sega who ever seen or heard of anything like that?) just plopped up somewhere.
Later I was like "wait a minute" with all discussions of NES release dates and SNES release dates before putting some lines together and going "oh neat, makes sense" since we were not in most cash. By the time any of the stuff mattered in school or anything, everyone had playstation. NOBODY had a N64 here and by that I mean I saw one first time in my life in entirely different country. Saturn? Existed when I saw one in a game room in amusement facility or another. Nobody actually had one. Gotta mention getting a GBC as my first handheld in 98-2000 but also not with pokemon, but WarioLand 2 which is biggest missed shots hitting bullseye from my mother ever. I fkn love warioland to this day just because it likely was cheaper game on the shelf than any pokemon.

TL;DR: Having NES -> SNES -> PS1 between 95 -> 2000.

my first console was the PS2. my dad got it before i was born and over time it became mine. i still have it to this day. i suppose if were talking about first true self owned console the it was a Wii i got for my birthday when i was around 7. it was the bundle with Wii Play.

I am aware of this very well, I was talking with irony from my kid perspective. When I was 5-9 Mega Drive was just a "Sega", much like NES was just a "nintendo" and I had not seen an actual Master System until recrently. PlayStation was for sure first time, also thanks to sillyness of calling it a "sony" when the actual name of console had bigger hold with me and other kids I knew. Even slang shorthand in my language still exists since PlayStation kinda exists even today with like, a fifteenth console or something.

My dad gave me his old 2600 around 1986 with Demons to Diamonds, River Raid, Pitfall and Night Driver. But my mom got me a Master System that same year for Christmas so the Atari was quickly forgotten.

When I was quite young...an actual Atari Pong console from my parents. (The 2600 came later) I guess that speaks of my age...even though it says "Young Hero"(at the time I'm posting this) on the left.

By the time I was born my dad already had consoles at home.

But to give a less technical answer, the N64.

A hand-me-down from my older aunt's kids: An Intellivision. F*ck me. I played a lot of Beauty and the Beast. It was just knock off Donkey Kong. Ironically DK was on that system, but it wasn't in the pile of games I inherited 🤣

Mid 90's, sega megadrive, came with a 6 in 1 games et that includes streets of rage and golden axe.

I still have it and all my games for it, it's in storage though, the pal versions of games are quite sluggish when you get used to the 60hz games.

I did own an old fat gameboy in like the early 90s as a kid. that's why this question was more console based. the ones was my second actual console. but I did own it at the end life of it when new releases were still released.

I was given an Atari 2600 while all my friends had a Super Nintendo, I must confess I didn't appreciate it as much as I should have.
I didn't really become a gamer until I got a PS1 (as a guilt present for my parents divorcing). Who needs positive male role models when you have Duke Nukem?
My dad actually got my PS1 chipped for me, he'd hand me a list of games every month from this sketchy dude he knew. I went from having no games to being the only kid (small town) playing the Japanese exclusives. When it rains it pours. The PS1 is still my favourite console to this day.
We also used to steal Foxtel (satellite tv). Ah the joys of growing up poor....

This thread needs to be more clear
First console played?
First bought for the family post you playing?
Or you bought yourself?

Played: SNES
Fam bought: PS1
Bought for self: Xbox and a copy of Morrowind
First handheld was a Gameboy Light since we were in Okinawa at the time
