What's your personal modern gaming pet peeve?

Modern games bore me. The last title I played and enjoyed was Baldur's Gate 3, a really cool game, but I had to put in mods to avoid the LGBT thing. I didn't like that every character wanted to have sex with my character. Those developers seem creepy when they do this. Why do they shove these things on my face? There was this big, muscular dude who, out of nowhere, wanted to have sex with my character. WTF? Why? What's the point?

Sounds like a typical play through of Mass Effect to me.

I FUCKING HATE CHROMATIC ABERRATION

I fucking hate buzzwords like NFT or CRYPTO...just keep it outta my game, I'm trying to game not get scammed.
Should look up a youtuber by the name of Jauwn, he introduced me to the world of crypto and web3 based gaming and oh...your...god.

If you thought just talking about them in games was bad....

Lack of experimentation. I'm a bit tired of all the Action RPG open world games but they're selling so they won't go away. I miss the hack and slashes and strange hybrid genres. This problem even permeates indie games (rogue like spam, now everything is Binding of Isaac, even your SHMUPs!)

Can I have the "quirky Earthbound inspired RPGs" back PLEASE???

Where are the SMT (and Persona)-likes?
Why has no one attempted SHMUP RPGs like Panzer Dragoon Saga and Star Trader?
Why are the Mega Man-likes always so overshadowed?
Why has no one attempted to re-create the types of games getting fan translated, like how Sakura Wars is SRPG/VN or Baroque's Horror/ARPG?

A pet peeve of mine are games where you are forced to complete the task/kill the boss in one specific way. Killing the XX monster boss should just be the task and it doesn't matter how you do it (hit it with a truck, throw poisoned poop at it, whatever).

For me, it'd have to be:

* Day One updates
* Content that's in the game files but is 'locked' so they can sell season's pass, etc.
* Inconsistent audio quality
* Subtitles that are hard to read (eg. having white subtitles overlay and due to what's going on in the game/background color, they're only partially visible if at all).

I saw many modern games are getting like this; this is an honest opinion, and sorry if I offended someone.
The issue you take is that romances auto-trigger based off things you aren't aware will do that. Wording it in that way will make queer people see you as unsafe, to the point that even pointing this out will be seen as more interaction than necessary.

Anyway, the massive bloat of file size, especially amongst western game devs (and Square). Remember when No Man's Sky got its file size reduced from like 75GB to 15? I do. Compress and optimize your games. I'm not interested in downloading 155GB because you don't see this as an issue.

G-G-Gay people in my fantasy video game?! No! I can't have that! /j

Anyway uhhh I don't know man I kinda wish the industry would cater to me and me only.
A garage band simulator where every character looks and sounds like RanmyakuIchi?

I'm actually excited for Perfect Dark. I think Joanna looks fine, nothing wrong with it honestly. People just don't like women anymore or something.

I’m gonna playfully slap you on the back and do nothing else.
I meant like a *really* good garage band, like a rags to riches thing where they become famous and then the band hits a new low and they all break up and hate each other but they've found separate success and then one of them dies and they all meet again at the funeral and agree that "Yeah, we were good once" and walk off somberly because that's just life sometimes, y'know?

Openworld. It seems that most modern games feel bloated because they only give you a long distance to travel. The world itself doesn't have much to do besides go here, go there only once. As much as I love MGSV, some missions have you walking long distances just to start them. So I would start with a car or D-Walker but then you would get caught at some places. D-Horse probably felt like the best transportation you have, especially since you can use D-Horse to be stealthy, but D-Horse is slow. A lot of old "openworld" games gave you set pieces rather than trying to make it bigger, and it tried reusing locations to make it feel more alive. That and I feel some games don't need to be openworld.

Yeah, nowadays I will do my best to steer away from open world games. Too much freedom in games just isn't my cup of tea I guess.

Skill trees good lord I’m so tired of skill trees. Just give me some points to put in stats or give me everything at once and design around that for the love of god

I love skill trees on paper, but in practice I can't stand how little information some of them give. Like, I enjoy the classes in Diablo 4, but figuring out whether one build is more or less efficient than another requires a lot of testing.

I remember playing through Hades the first time and feeling annoyed with *every other game*, like all the choices you make for character progression in a run make clear sense and I know what I'm getting. I wish everything was like that! (Probably why I can't stand Dark Souls, come to think of it).

I think Skill Trees are fine as long as they aren't insane. You ever see the Assassin's Creed Valhalla tree?

Honestly I get that. I don’t mind it when a game is obtuse but I really don’t like it when my stats feel that way.

It's worse in game too because of how zoomed in it is. Ridiculous. I actually kinda like how Borderlands does theirs. Too bad BL3 turned out the way it did. That game really does go hard on mute.

borderlands skill tree is nice and manageable but there is just a few too many quirked up shawtys in there. Three looked cool gameplay wise but everything about borderlands felt passé to me by the time it came out. I guess not too everyone else cuz it sold like 20+ million copies

Every game having the same homogeneous control schemes. Every game adding the exact same skill trees and shallow crafting elements that add nothing to the actual game. Just games in general now having no actual good ideas or anything worthwhile. I don't know if the second video game crash is really going to happen, but I kind of hope it does now, lol. Nothing worth salvaging right now.

I don't think a Video Game Crash is gonna happen. Everyone has to realize that casuals don't care. They are gonna buy games anyway. I'm one of them lol.
