What's your favorite rhythm game? And what's so special about it?

-Amplitude (PS2)
-Gitaroo Man (PS2)
Gitaroo Man really seems like an obscure gem, with how many people I've seen recommend it! I hadn't even heard of it before.

Rhythm Coaster, there was a new release of the game on the switch like 2 weeks ago. One of the best in recent years actually. The mapping got way more creative than the past rhythm Coaster on the switch. The original songs are ok, they sound mostly like generic current j-pop to me. But then again I'm not the most into j-pop, more of a j-hardcore person. The guest songs is the usual and a couple new stuff like Teto Mania.

Some others I like:
Osu Mania
Taiko
Sound Vortex
PIU
Parappa

Groove Coaster Wai Wai Party!!!
Taiko no Tatsujin (all of them are good but I especially enjoy Rhythmic Adventure 1&2)
Cytus 2

Only got into this genre recently so I haven't played a lot of them for now.

I was often at the arcades back then. Played a lot of Dance Dance Revolution, Drummania, Guitar Freaks, Dance Maniax, Pump It Up, Groove Coaster, and Mozarc.

I've played a lot of other rhythm games on consoles and mobile since then: Bust a Groove 1/2, DJ Max (especially Portable 2 on PSP), Project Diva (starting with F when I got my Vita), the BEMANI games on GBC, Rhythm Tengoku, Muse Dash, Jubeat, Reflec Beat, Cytus, Deemo, Voez, Arcaea... too many to count!

Not sure I would call them games it´s more like Simon says.

But honestly I´m no fan of does type of entertainment "will never call it games" but if I had to pick one favorite. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Becuse of the music alone.

Big fan of Everhood, still need to finish it but it's stellar. Also loved how Cadence of Hyrule refined and adapted a lot of ideas from Crypt of the Necrodancer. I also long to finish Hifi Rush, loved the concept so much

Rock Band 3 ,while it doesn't have real career mode i like the diversity in it compared to GH.

And the custom songs,i love downloading those to my PS3.
I remember downloading so many custom songs on Guitar Hero. I have no idea how they could even have that feature in the first place, given how many instrumentals of licensed songs I found on there at the time. I played a lot of the custom anime themes

My favorite rhythm game has to be rhythm haven for sure!

beatmania IIDX, there is nothing that can top it really. Dance Dance Revolution or In The Groove go hard too, and other hardcore rhythm games.
I personally dislike Osu with passion. Ouendan 1 and 2 with EBA are OK games by generally a shovelware company so it has some glaring design issues like bad life bar and generally bad scoring system that focuses on combo rather than accuracy first. These systems being taken as is without fixes into osu, while community builds up the game several fold more complex than the hardest songs in the original games becomes one of the most miserable annoying games to play. it is not fun to grind a game where one miss equals a full restart while other systems focusing on accuracy lets you try through a whole song with prospect of improvement regardless the combo.

Taiko no Tatsujin or even Donkey Konga are good fun.

Final Fantasy Theatrhythm!
Especially the arcade version because it had local multiplayer, but I’ve only ever seen one once in my life.

I'm more familiar with the Wii version, but I imagine that one is also good fun!

Project Diva Arcade
I love seeing the reactions to my ultima manos technique.
Anything Miku/Project Diva gets my approval. I am only ok at it skill-wise though::sailor-embarrassed

I didn't know there was an arcade version! I really enjoyed Final Bar Line & KH: Melody of Memory. I really wish the Dragon Quest one was localised!::sadkirby Theatrythm is a great series in general

Guitar Hero III (PS2)
i have so much fun memories of this game and back in the day it has inspired me to learn to play a real guitar and listen to more old rock music

Anything in the MaiMai range of cabs is heavenly. Something fun about slapping those big weird buttons around the screen.

The others I've played extensively have been guitar hero/clone hero/frets on fire and Taiko no Tatsujin. I've been meaning to buy a Taiko drum for the Switch but I haven't got around to it yet lmao

Does the Subrosian dance minigame in Oracle of Seasons count?
If I count the Karaoke/Disco Dancing minigames from Yakuza for myself, then I don't see why that couldn't count for you! ::peacemario

I still want a Taiko drum as well! I nearly bought one for my Switch back in 2020-2021
Hatsune Miku Project Diva and Metal Hellsinger.
Project Diva rules! I'm not as keen on Metal Hellsinger, but I'm glad such a unique idea exists!

Exactly! As a Miku lover I really appreciate the existence of Project Diva and as a Metalhead and fan of doom 2016 I really apreciate the existence of metal hellsinger.
