TBH I don't care about rhythm games and don't even know most of them but I was introduced to this genre by Gitaroo Man on PS2 and I only liked it for its sense of humor, not because it's a rhythm game or it was even fun to play.

Then I heard about Guitar Hero games but ignored them because they were more complex version of Gitaroo Man without anything "fun" whatsoever. I was playing a real guitar back then and due to how BS it's to play Guitar Hero I didn't like it at all!!!

This is honestly a BS design to make buttons horizontally lined inside of vertically just like a real guitar. IDK what they were thinking!!!

However I got Guitar Hero 5 and its BS guitar gamepad for free and played it just because it was cool to create your character and play it. I didn't have fun because of its gameplay, it was just "nice" to roleplay as rock star!!!

And then lastly I played Rock Band Unplugged just because you can create your whole band but no one told me you are forced to play the whole band!! I was almost breaking my PSP trying to play the BS game therefore I just threw the game out of the window instead!!! lolol

However best rhythm game I played was Rocksmith 1 because you use a real guitar to play the game.

In no particular order.

On 3DS:
Theatrhythm (both titles, I want to play the Switch/ps4 version too, no touch screen so it will be a different experience)

On Vita:
Deemo (I owned the physical Asia version)
Lumines
Cytus (got it on a non-modded console long ago, before the psn mobile was closed)
IA/VT (thanks to the English patch, I know it isn't required for a rhythm game but still I know I've enjoyed more than if I would have played it in jap!)

Taiko no Tatsujin Portable DX for the PSP is a great game, a ton of songs if you add the DLC to your game. I also liked Project Diva extend as well, good game, but i prefered the Taiko gameplay more. I'm gonna play Project Diva 2nd# soon.

Surprised that nobody mentioned Osu, it's a very hard game

Project Diva 1 & 2 (PSP)
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call (3DS, have not played the most recent entry in the franchise)
DJMAX Portable 2 & Fever (PSP)

Lookin' forward to get the Persona Dancing Trilogy soon.
The Persona Dancing trilogy are some of my absolute favourites. I love that P4D is almost a fully fledged Persona story, just told in more of a visual-novel style and occasionally broken up by dancing segments. You can just play free mode too, if you prefer. P3D & P5D aren't quite as deep in terms of story, but I love them all the same hehe

As far as I'm concerned, you can't really go wrong with any Project Diva/Theatrhythm games!

I've never tried Osu. I'm not much of a PC gamer, so I worry my lack of precision with a mouse would hold me back! ::nervous-prinny

I do enjoy Taiko, but I don't play it nearly enough. I've played it as a minigame in Yakuza 5 and I have one of the Switch versions. I did also consider importing one of the Taiko drum controllers once, but never got around to it.

I really enjoyed both versions of Theatrythm! Never played the very first one though.

I never played those Vita ones. Yeah, English isn't critical for most rhythm games. I imported my PS3 copy of the K-on! rhythm game from Japan. I probably would have enjoyed it more in English, as there are little comedy skits now and then, but I still enjoyed it regardless.

I have next to no actual instrument/music skill, so I was certain that I would suck at Rocksmith! I'm glad to see it has an audience though. I did also enjoy creating characters in Guitar Hero. Never tried Rock Band on PSP, but it sounds a bit rough.

I have a few hours in rocksmith.

i also love guitar hero (and rockband/clonehero) parappa the rapper, um jammer lammy and gitaroo man.

I'd probably have to mash a whole franchise of my playtimes together to get that many hours. I think 500 hours might be the most I've put into any single game. I love to see it!

I'm so curious now about my own Guitar Hero playtimes. I played those to death for like 4 years before my Xbox 360 died, but that was from before most platforms kept track of that stuff.

Dude you must be living on Venus because that much Earth hours is like 5 hours on Venus when we equate time of both planets to "how much it takes for 1 day" logic lolol.

Guitar Hero 2 & 3 (especially 3)
Tap Tap Revenge
Rock Band 1 & 2 (especially 1)
DJ Hero 1 & 2 (especially 1)
Audiosurf
and because it's the earliest one I played,
The Jungle Book: Rhythm & Groove

I tried out DJ Hero a couple of times, but I always kinda struggled with it ::sailor-embarrassed

I haven't played a newer rhythm game in quite awhile. I loved all the Bemani stuff up through the PS2 era with the exception of DrumMania and Martial Beat, as I never encountered those outside of seeing them for sale in shops. I also liked Parappa and Lammy, the first Bust-a-Move, and even the Mario DDR on GC wasn't bad.

Vib-Ribbon, Unjammer Lammy, Theatrhytm Final Fantasy Curtain call, the Taiko no Tatsujin series, the Hatsune Miku series (haven't played the games that came out after the vita/ps3 ones), and Rhythm Heaven of course (special mention : Guitar Heroes 3)::coolmines

A lot of great choices! I've played PaRappa, but not Um Jammer Lammy. I wanted to get a physical copy at one point, but that expensive ship has long since sailed hehe

Space Channel 5 is my number 1, but I also like these:

Unjammer Lammy (Uncensored version)
Bust a Groove
The Patapon series
Rez
Sayonara Wild Hearts

They are not rhythm games, but I can't think of music and games without thinking of Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future

I get what you mean with Jet Set Radio. The music is such a big part of its identity!
I didn't know Lammy was censored? I guess all manner of things get taken out or altered when brought to the west.
I've been eying off that new Patapon collection for the Switch!
I do want to try Sayonara Wild Hearts sometime!
