What's your favorite Pokemon?

Mine is Starmie... just barely edging out Raichu because I like Starmie's more varied and vibrant color palette.

Raichu is cool n all, and I like it way more than that overrated rodent of a mascot, what with its inverted colors and freakin' lightning-shaped tail.
But Starmie... I honestly can't quite put my finger on it. Just something about its coloring, the star shaped design, and that mysterious red jewel in its center. I think its because it sticks out so much from all the others... at least it did back in Gen 1.

I mean it ain't just A star.. it's a freakin' DOUBLE star!! ..which to me makes it seem much more menacing.

Treecko, Machop, Froslass. I have unbelievable history with these three, especially Machop.
I practically refuse to play any mainline games without one of them these days, I held off playing SV for about 2 years, and I always ditch all my starter for Treecko.

A lot of Gen1 mons are just the same but doubled.

Maybe because it's easier to make.
It doesn't require so much creative thinking at least, and while I don't know how much time they had to come up with the original 151, they do only have x-amount of time to come up with hundreds of creature designs.

It's a tie between Pyukumuku and Sandy Shocks.

Aside Gardevoir, there's a bunch of them that I like.
Maybe Arbok, Nidoking and Raichu.

Been my favorite since the first time I found this rock eating dork back in Sapphire. He's got pathetic stats and a middling movepool, I love him.

My king, Snorlax, was already mentioned so I'll add Vespiquen! As gimmicky as she is, I love her design and concept. Really wish more was done with her (like a Mega Evolution)

Quilava, easily. Mustelids are already the best, but a mustelid that's on fire? How could I not? Charmander is an honorable mention, they were my first favorite Pokemon! Growlithe/Arcanine is up there too. I can't choose between them. D: Growlithes are more cute, Arcanines are cooler. Thankfully one leads to the other so I can have both! Yes, my favorites are all fire types. This was not intentional, though I do like fire...

I miss pixel art pokemon.
They could technically use ken sugimori quality art as sprites now too, the hardware can easily display it, that would be nice too. the 3d models are just so bland

Agreed, I love the Sneasel line.

I also noticed how great Mystery Dungeon Sprites were. Shame we never got to see all 6 gen with 2D sprites...

It's a shame since the N64 and Gamecube Pokémon games had nice models. Even Stadium's had much more lively ones compared to SwSh/SV.

In a better reality they would've kept the 2D but as hand drawn so it would look much more upscaled without looking cheap. Gen V had nice sprites.

The irony is that they made over detailed models in XY so it was "futureproof" yet when the Switch came the models looked more like Wii models.

Yeaaahhh, mustelids cannot be beaten. I forgot about another one, Buizel. I'd knock Growlithe/Arcanine off my list for Buizel. Floatzel is neat too, but not as good as Buizel.

I've never played the Mystery Dungeon games, but I looked up their sprites and they are really good. All the expressions are really cute.

Man, I would have loved it so much if they kept 2D sprites. The lightly animated sprites from Gen V had so much personality in them. Sadly, it was inevitable that they'd make the jump from 2D sprites to 3D.

But yeah, the 3D models were a big disappointment. They didn't look terrible, but all the personality was sapped away. Game Freak just aren't really good with 3D in general. Too bad their games will always be successful thanks to brand recognition, I think Game Freak could use a bit of a kick in the pants to get with the times.

I'm still in awe that ChunSoft made efforts to animate every pokémons from the first three gens in 8 angles (well, technically 5 since 3 of them can be mirrored and most pokémons are symmetrical), all on the GBA while GameFreaks are struggling putting simple 3D models you just have to animate so they have to cut some in Gen VII onwards.

I used to dislike them because of the weird distortions that didn't look good on a big screen on youtube videos but when I played Dragon Quest IV and V on the DS they also had similar sprites which worked well. I think the issue is that it has to look good on higher resolution and bigger screens.

Gen VI was clearly rushed when you see how "more 3D" the X&Y was in the trailer compared to the final release. I just wish they waited at least the New 3DS to offer real 3D or even just beautiful 2D sprites.

They look like toys. I'm genuinely surprised they didn't go full cel shading with their games to compensate it.

I mean look at this. That's not a really high budget remake for the Switch (unlike Prime Remastered) but that art style looks like what if a 2D game was put in 3D.

And yes, it's supposed to replicate the style of the original adverts:

And the main menu backgrounds.

I didnt know the new Mystery Dungeon used that art-style, thats great!
Funnily enough, its just using the same 3D models as the other games basically, but there's a static sketch-style/pencil-stroke pattern overlayed on the model to make it look drawn, and theres cell-shading.
The background and object textures are drawn very nicely though
