What's the story behind your username?

I'm super happy there is someone who enjoys the old Goosebumps books, I could talk about them for hours, the nostalgia is too great for me 😭
Same! My kids and I did a marathon of the TV show last Sunday -- it was glorious.

Honestly....

I don't even remember now, at least not fully. I've been using it for so long... RPGs and what have you.
I just typed it one day into a game as my character's name. Gods, I was 13, might have been 14. Anyway, not the point. It just kind of stuck with me since.

Honestamente....

Já nem me lembro direito, pelo menos não completamente. Faz tanto tempo que uso... RPGs e tudo mais.
Um dia, simplesmente digitei isso num jogo como nome do meu personagem. Nossa, eu tinha 13, talvez 14 anos. Enfim, não vem ao caso. Só ficou na minha cabeça desde então.
BomGood morning captain, how are you?

A mixture of two different things...I had to change it due to being stalked online by some weirdos I knew in real life that I wanted as far away from me as possible and the Sega Mega Drive was my first games console I got for Christmas 1993, the amount of hours I spent on it I'll never know so it just made sense to change it to this as I'll always have a place in my heart for Sega and the Mega Drive in general being a 90s kid.

Direct homage to Daicon III and IV, two short movies made as openings movies for the Nihon SF Taikai (japanese sci-fi convention) that happened in 1981 and 1983 in Osaka (the name of the convention changes in acordance to where it takes place, e.g. Osaka is known as DAICON, in Tokyo is known as TOKON).

Those opening animations are the first major exemple of anime made by fans to fans, paying homage to the pillars of otaku culture at the time: anime, manga, tokusatsu, sci-fi movies and even western comics.

I think those animations are what cemented otaku culture as a cultural moviment and, since I'm a massive otaku, I think is only fitting I should pay tribute to what was one of the definig moments in otaku culture.

The people who animated the Daicon Opening Animations would later form GAINAX, the first animation studio created entirely from scratch, not being a tied to any major studio (almost all of animation studios were created by ex-employees of bigger studios) and pioneered the medium with anime like The Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise, Gunbuster, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, FLCL and many others.

We could also say Daicon IV was the first AMV to exist (fan made video combining anime and licensed music), but even I know its a stetch.

Also an accidental nod to Metal Gear. Otacon derives his nickname from the Otaku Convention so, in a way, we both homage otaku/nerd/weeb conventions.

"Spc" is just "Space" without vowels, a nod to the sci-fi origins of the convention.

If any of my ramblings peaked your curiosity, you can easely find both animations on YouTube

I always assumed it was a corruption of the rage comic character Derpina tbh. In the same way the early internet gave us "ZOMG" as well as "omg"

Edit: y'all are laughing but this wasn't a joke ::eggmanlaugh

Well, I picked the names of demons like Beelzebub and Lucifer, and I added zarus.

My name is TheMinuMaster for a pretty simple reason.

‘The’ is just there to give it a bit of flair.
‘Minu’ comes from Minuano — I’m from the South of Brasil, so the word sticks with me, and it also reminds me of Jetstream Sam’s nickname in Metal Gear Rising.
And ‘Master’ comes from Ken Masters, since he’s usually my pick in Street Fighter.

Put it all together and that’s how TheMinuMaster was born.

I got a shit ton of usernames, but Gigano Reis comes from an anime called Zatch Bell (Konjiki no Gash for those in Japan). The character Brago (my profile pic) uses a spell called Gigano Reis where he shots a giant gravity ball at the opponent.

The only real reason I chose this username is because when I was a kid, I played Zatch Bell: Mamodo Battles. When I played it I always used Brago. Since I was a little kid, I spammed moves alot and constantly used Gigano Reis. So I constantly heard that move said over and over again.

Here is a sound file if you want to hear how it is said.

My username came from this PEAK of broadcast TV when i was younger.
Always liked the edgy characters like Hiei, Ikki and the like, so Shiranami was a no brainer.
Have been my alias in games and forums ever since xD

(Btw its still a fun show to watch today, for those into tokusatsu. The cast is so openly silly and the "small town vibes" are so good. Highly recommended!)

"Harmonie" as I use it refers to the historic European usage of it when it referred to a small ensemble of brass and woodwind instruments or when it referred to the wind section of the orchestra. It's befitting of me because I love, own, and play all kinds of woodwind instruments. (I also love/own some brass instruments, but I don't actively play any at the time.)

So, yeah, that's a completely obscure meaning that will go over everyone's heads unless I explain it. I love the username for me, but I wish the meaning wasn't so obscure.

I added "girl" because "Harmonie" by itself was already taken and I am a woman.
