Writing this because I watched Ashita no Joe a few years back and it's a masterpiece, from 1970. I still have to get around to watching the second series which was made 10 years later and finishes the story. Since it's that old, I had issues with the pacing at first - the show just moves slowly, from moment to moment, more like real life than TV, almost. So in the beginning there were parts of the story I was interested in but it was testing my patience. I eventually moved past that and the story just got better and better - this is not your typical boxing anime at all, the plot is raw and harsh and the character's psychology is nuanced and believable.
I never cared for mechas and stuff like that but I started watching the first Gundam from 1979 a while back and it's better than I expected, I should get back to it. Feels like a real story about war and not just big robot suits fighting in the sky.

For series, so far it's definitely Treasure Island/Takarajima, from 1978.
Watched it two summers ago and loved the whole thing right through. It's probably my favorite adaptation of Treasure Island, and the coolest depiction of Silver ever.

For movies, it's weirdly enough ALSO a Treasure Island, only it's Animal Treasure Island, from 1971.

For me it is Speed Racer 1967

I am not quite that old, but close. It was the first "cartoon" I watched that I knew was not made in the wast. Always been a fan, still enjoy watching it though now its more for laughs.

Hmm Desert Rose might be the oldest one, don't watch a lot of anime personally, but wanted to mention this one

Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger and Grendizer. Old gems hehe
Mazinger Z aka Tranzor Z is the anime that introduced me to mecha anime. Before this the only reference I had was the original Ultraman series. Sweet show! Pretty racy when I was a kid too. (Aphrodite's primary weapon)

I think the Sanrio produced movies were my first exposure to anime before I even knew what anime was. They all are surreal and left a lasting impression on me that I will never forget.
