What's a game everyone loves but you don't like it?

I could never get into Banjo-Kazooie or Banjo-Tooie. Tried them out for the first time a few years ago. They just didn't do it for me, got kinda bored and dropped them. Having played a lot of collect-a-thon and platformers that came out after the fact, these two seem a little lackluster. I might go back and try them again one day though.

Super Mario World. I think it’s ugly, the gameplay is really slow and stiff, and the music and sound effects have this weird low key energy that I don’t really care for. It’s not a bad game, I just prefer Mario 3 in probably every single way.

For modern games it’s Hollow Knight. It’s kind of like it’s made for me but I just find it really boring.

TES: Oblivion & Skyrim.

None of the quests interested me, NPC's range from boring to annoying, the dead eyed stares stopped being funny after an hour or so. The maps are generally uninteresting to me (with the exception of things like the dwarven ruins of Skyrim with their steampunk aesthetics).
The combat is shallow and yeah all in all I just don't have any real love for those games.

Honestly i always found Nintendo titles to suck , like Idk i just don't vibe with them they feel so safe so uhh i don't know what's the right word so I'm just going to describe them "full of soy" like they feel so meh so childish so mid so uninteresting.

It doesn't help that most Nintendo fans you see are these adult children that fit the "Nintendo fanboy" meme so well , i don't have a problem with Mario 1 cuz i actually played it when i was 5 or 6 but later installments feel and look so lame like who the hell plays this shit?

+pokemon it's just meh let's go collect spiritual ass animals and fight other spiritual animals like what??? I can't get the gist of it.

I think just family friendly games don't appeal to me or hardly appeal to me everything else is just some bias with memes thrown into the mix.

I get what you mean about alot of modern Nintendo titles, but the older games especially, like the first Metroid for example, were definitely designed with a slightly older audience in mind. They were also hard as hell too. ::hellmo

I guess with the universal appeal of something like Mario, the games have to be accomodating for youngsters who may only just be getting introduced to gaming.

For what it's worth, I think that Super Paper Mario for Wii was the last excellent Mario title I played. Since then I've enjoyed playing New Super Mario Bros U. Deluxe, but it was nothing to write home about.

Glad you understood what I'm trying to say , i don't find platformers particularly interesting so that has to do with it.

I'll second this. They've never been my favorite RPGs nor my favorite Open-World games. I largely just find the combat and moment to moment gameplay uninteresting, and even comparing them to their contemporaries I've always found Fallout (particularly New Vegas) more interesting.

I used to like them a lot, precisely because they weren't trying to be "cool," if you know what I mean. Especially back when everything became so story-heavy. I'm one of those people who'd rather go to the theater to watch a movie or read a book for a good story. When I'm sitting on my butt with a gamepad in my hands, watching characters talk for, like, half an hour? Or just, you know, walking? I start feeling like an idiot, like I'm wasting my time and stuff. I didn't even like the third Witcher.

Maybe it's one of those things you're supposed to get used to as a kid, but since I grew up in the '80s with my Atari 2600, I just can't stand all that. And that's why I liked Nintendo. They were pretty old-school. All gameplay, no "water." Just give me Mario and let me jump on some turtles. I'd take that over the "new" God of War or The Last of Us any day.

What's funny is that I don't like them anymore. The Wii U was the last system I liked, and they treated it like trash, which it wasn't. Heck, they even scrapped the whole gamepad-oriented concept from Breath of the Wild just to promote the Switch. And while being a big fan of all previous Zelda games (well, not the CDI ones, but we're not talking about those, like, ever), I ended up... kinda hating what we got in the end. I can actually add both "new" Zelda games to my list. Hated my time there.

It looks like they managed to deliver what the modern audience wanted, but I just... fail to understand why it was supposed to be Zelda. It felt a lot like taking, say, Morrowind and turning it into Minecraft. That's why I stopped enjoying Nintendo's games, I guess. Those aren't old-school anymore. And with them overdoing it with both DLC and Amiibos? While also milking the hardware part? I've found myself having much more fun with indies on Steam. Modern Nintendo just makes me sad most of the time. But I really liked the old one. I mean, some people like soy, right? :-> That would be me, I guess. I like simple fun with that "just one more minute!" effect. That's the fun with Pokémon, for example. You just... want to catch 'em all. That's the fun 🙃

May I ask how you feel about the whole Metroidvania genre? You like it? What games specifically? I'm curious because I thought Hollow Knight was one of the better ones.

TES: Oblivion & Skyrim.

I agree about Skyrim, and I used to agree about Oblivion too, but somehow, it grew on me when I gave it a second chance back in the day. It wasn't nearly as good as Morrowind, of course, but there was certainly something about those portals. Skyrim, on the other hand, felt way too dumb for my liking without providing anything really special. I tried to give it a second chance too, but nope. Not for me.

I like them! I think Super Metroid is more or less untouchable, and I like Symphony of the Night a lot too even though it starts to feel kind of shallow in the latter half of the game. I remember liking Outland on the 360 a lot too. I've only played a teeny tiny bit of the new Prince of Persia game but it seems super solid. I haven't played much of the Ori games, but I want to get into them too.

In some ways I guess it can kind of be a genre I like the idea of more than I like the actual games, but I do like that style of game more than I dislike them, if that makes sense lol

On paper, I should love everything about Hollow Knight, from the mood, to the mechanics to the hand-drawn graphics, to the music, but for some reason I just lose interest after a short while when actually playing the game. I can't really put my finger on why.

Have you ever tried Rayman for PSX? It's so difficult, but oh so good. Easily one of my favourite platformers

That actually makes sense. Things like that happen. I was just surprised because usually old-school Metroidvania fans do enjoy Hollow Knight. Then again, things either click with you or they don't. It's as simple as that :->

For me personally it's Windwaker. I just can't get into it.

Mario Wonder, is the same platformer as always, the changes are just useless flowers, power ups that don't fit with the series and a few enemies that are variations of the existing ones.

No shame in not trying to be cool i see nothing groundbreaking or amazing about them just a family friendly product that people grew up with and seem blinded by nostalgia idk i may be wrong i never got into any of that company franchises.

About soy the internet rebranded the thing to fit the "cuck" stereotype that is commonly associated with Nintendo switch for some reason.

For pokemon? Not my cup of tea.

Too many games i want to play can't afford to add more.

What games are on your hitlist?
Hmmm let's see

1-Final Fantasy franchise
2-silent hill franchise
3-resident evil franchise
4-metal gear solid franchise
5-dead space
6-bioshock
7-fallout 1
8-tibereum dawn/tibereum wars
9-the third birthday
10-dark souls
11-half life 2

These are top of my mind i didnt write down my list anywhere , but these would take a lot of time especially the first 4 wanting to play every game in a franchise can take quite sometime.

Also working on a couple mods slow things down even further.

So i need to figure the perfect balance between working on my 3 mods i want to crank out this year and replaying certain games along with playing new ones

Currently games i want to replay are the red alert series Been since 2013-2014 i last played red alert 1 and i feel nostalgic for these games.

Yeah that's a pretty epic selection of games. Hope you enjoy the MGS games you play, 1 & 2 especially are two of my favourite games ever, same with Final Fantasy X.

I only played Half Life and HL2 for the first time last year, and they were both excellent. Especially nowadays with how much they've been tweaked by Valve over the years.

Good luck with you mods and with making your way through the FF series! Of the mainline games I've finished 6 - Only 10 more to go! ::dkfacepalm

For real , yeah i finished MGS1 10/10 game easily goes into my top 10 games looking forward to what MGS2 has in store for me.

I have finished half life 1 and all it's 3 main expansions only the Co-op one remains , a very good game it took me 2-3 weeks on my first playthrough probably it took me that long cuz i choose hard difficulty from the get go...

Thx bro much appreciated my mods aint something drastic really mostly balance tweaks for WarCraft 2 to give it some more flavor and a realistic generals mod.

I went through the first 9 mainline games of Final Fantasy and played tactics so any final fantasy prior to PS2 era i already played only like what? 7 mainline games discard 14 cuz it's an MMORPG with no end.

Now what's on YOUR list?

Oblivion 😭 As you can imagine I am having a GREAT time at the moment.

Me and my brother were MASSIVE Morrowind fans (which means you can probably already tell where this is going if you know anything about TES fans). What I personally liked the most about Morrowind was its unique world, complex political and religious conflicts, the overarching main story and the interesting focus of "unreliable narrator" being the core concept behind this whole "chosen one" style narrative. Me and my brother were SO EXCITED for oblivion to come out, excited to see the city of Cyrodil in the Empire and how the game would be more advanced than Morrowind and have full voice acting.

And then the Lord of the Rings movies happened and I guess Todd And Emil had a collective aneurysm about it. So we get oblivion, my brother bought his own personal PC to play it on, and instead of a different but similar game with a very complex world and a well developed story with interesting themes... it takes place in JRR Tolkien's backyard (as Yahtzee once said) with Cyrodil designed to look like bootleg Minas Tirith with about 10 NPCs wandering around. And instead of exploring alien landscapes with unique never before seen creatures... you were wandering a generic wood fighting wolves and zombies.

And the story has you finding the super special dude whose daddy was the king so he has special bloodline powers and is a good little boy because he lives in a church and prays to.. er... whoever... and you are going to help him fight the EEEEEEVIL daedra who has been redesigned from his previous look to looking more like Satan from da Bible and stop hell portals I mean oblivion portals from ruining the kingdom.

Even to this day, the absolute dog-water writing for the main story is SHOCKING in comparison. I'm not exactly a fan of Skyrim but Skyrim is a MUCH better game than Oblivion.

I have been enjoying watching people fall ass over tea kettle with the game's glitches but every time the story starts happening in a stream I get irrationally angry at being reminded just how BAD it is.

Not to mention listening to everyone who played this one first because they were trying to fill the LOTR holes in their hearts go "omgggg I loved this gaaaaaame" is pure torture ::homerscream

But hey it could be worse.
I could have been a Daggerfall fan.

(also hello once again I need to attempt to post here more)

ngl I would rather play any other srpg than tactics ogre luct cuz the level scaling is getting to me bad.

I really hate super meat boy and all these edgy indie platformers that spawned from it with that extremely repetitive design of having like a thousand levels that look identical to each other with the only difference being MORE SPIKES and whatnot. Such a lazy and unfun design. I hate that dev's "ugly-sarcastic" aesthetic too.

Ugh, THIS! I played just the first level of Super Meat Boy and dropped it, but I keep seeing it being re released and people hyping it up ::angrygenjin
