It's not really so much a 'slang' just a phrase people use in life, I suppose it's more attributed to the older people these days but it's a very used wording to replace things like death.

I'd probably just become a honest to goodness fish. I could deal with being any one of them honestly. Being able to live in that deep blue ocean would be such a lovely reintroduction to Earth.
