What is the worst SEGA game?

nights-sega.gif

The WHOLE Nights series. All the games blow. Great, flying through rings, I loved it so much in Superman 64 lets do it again (yes i know Nights came out before Superman). And with a Christmas theme to boot YAY!!!

Ooze, a game made by Sega, a very good idea implemented in the worst possible way, horrendous music, frustrating level design, poor combat system, although the UI is good

NiGHTS might be about flying through rings, but at least the flight controls don't suck!

For me if we talk about From Sega's Worst Game:

Worst Sonic Game: Sonic Labyrinth (1995, GG) This sonic game was criticized even at the time for the slippery controls, the inability to jump, the spin dash that was going in a hurry which made it moderately unplayable, pure and hard monotony that consists of collecting 3 or sometimes 4 keys in each act to be able to open the exit without so much effort, the notable frustration against the bosses (except the boss of the 2nd Zone) due to the poor programming and inconsistency of the hitbox than if he was attacking the boss or he's attacking you and on top of that it is worth having more than 100 rings to face the boss if in the end he attacks you due to how badly programmed the hitbox of the game And I almost got a fit of anger because of that is and that I played this game in Sonic Mega Collection Plus on PS2 and this crap sonic game left a bad taste in my mouth.

Worst Non-Sonic Game: Super Thunder Blade (1988, MD-GEN) This game was also heavily criticized even upon its release to promote the Sega Mega Drive in Japan in that year and was infamous for having a helicopter mobility that was very slow so you were prone to get hit and lose a life, the unconscious hitbox that sometimes targets the enemy (like tanks and helicopters) all normal but when it's against the parts of the bosses that You have to destroy sometimes it hurts and sometimes it doesn't But your helicopter's hitbox It's slightly big that a simple shot even if it didn't hit you take damage and especially if you didn't touch a building or structure you also take damage about 1, 2, 3 or 4 pixels away and that reflects the bad learning curve that the game has even at easy level and 7 lives because 3 is hell and on top of that you can't continue if you lose all your lives so forcing the whole game from the beginning and the frame rate is bad because the game runs at 15 fps with drops to 8~10 fps in the boss section (which consists of destroying the parts of the boss) which makes it very annoying, frustrating and unplayable especially when there are a lot of shots on the screen and also that it used basic scaling so I wasn't thinking about that kind of game like that for the Mega Drive/Genesis and also because of the lack of power of the console (Motorola 68000 - 7.16 MHz and Zilog Z80 - 3.58 MHz) that didn't help either.

If I wasn't forced to play Super Thunder Blade in the Genesis Collection to unlock stuff, I never would have bothered trying to get a high score in it. It wasn't bad, but nowhere near as good as the arcade version. The super scaling in the arcade version is insanely good! Anyway for Sonic Labyrinth, it's not that bad. I got through it fine.

You are very good In these games despite the problems I mentioned in both games, I congratulate you for your patience and effort to complete them.

Well to be fair i played Super Thunder Blade on PSP in the Genesis collection so i was able to take it with me everywhere (even the bathroom).

Without a doubt one of the most overhyped/overrated fighting games of the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis even for the time and it was also infamous for being medium-unplayable Because a lot of inputs were 2 sec. charge ⬅️(Hold)➡️+P, you know, like Guile's Sonic Boom from Street Fighter and a high learning curve for wrong reasons and you were forced to play the game on maximum difficulty without having an option available in the game, etc. although graphically it was good yes.

Virtua Fighter Animation is a decent 8-bit fighter, btw. There weren't really many decent or even playable 8-bit fighters before/outside of the Neo Geo Pocket, and this one works well and has decent mechanics. Even the Genesis VF2 is actually fine. We liked it when it came out and I never knew it was supposed to be bad until I saw it on the Internet later. 2D demakes are pretty cool in general.

Worst on a SEGA system: technically Nightmare Circus since that was a cancelled game that was brought back from the dead after being bought by Brazilians (hard for me to say that a game that wasn't supposed to exist is the worst). Alternatively, my vote will go to Phantasy Star III or Maten no Soumetsu.

WAIT WAIT WAIT scratch that. I just remembered this dumpster fire exists

Worst SEGA made game: Well yeah, it's inevitably Sonic 06. But at least Sonic 06 didn't kill Sonic. I hold more contempt for Thunder Force VI because it's just a hodgepodge of stuff from previous games and not very original at all. It's even more heartbreaking because of what we lost (Dreamcast Thunder Force VI). Sonic Free Riders is in the running too because it not only killed Sonic Riders but also didn't even function.

Worst SEGA game: Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (wasn't made by Sonic Team, just barely missed the category above)

Worst Pre-SEGA Atlus game: Ronde

Worst Pre-SEGA Rovio game: Any post Angry Birds delisting era game you can think of

Worst Pre-SEGA Tecnosoft game: Doesn't exist cause they're the goat (and also cause that company was merged and is long dead)

Double Dragon for Sega Genesis is very, very bad and unplayable. ::sadkirby
i owned that game back in the day. also they have a rom hack of it making fixing stuff and maybe making it easier i can't recall.

the worst sega game huh.... i can't rember it's name but i know it has a prince with a sword and a horse on the cover.... and it was made by sega.... if anyone can recall that name that would be great.

It's been patched now i think. Also Double Dragon on Sega Master System is WAY better!

You probably mean Sword of Vermilion. It's a decent game though. Encounter rate is too high but that's every RPG from the '80s and early '90s.

Definitely has to be something like Sonic Genesis, or Free Riders. Free Riders in particular is genuinely such bullshit. Game is non functional just like the Kinect. It would be a good game if not for that. I also don't like Alien Syndrome (the Wii PSP game not the original)

Shining Wisdom, Phantasy Star III on Sega Genesis, Sonic Blast on Game Gear, Virtua Fighter 2 on Sega Genesis, Virtua Fighter The Animation on Game Gear (seriously i just mashed buttons to win), Ecco Jr. for Sega Genesis (it was really tedious)
Shining Wisdom? Never. Totally good game. It's like Sega's own version of the Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past. Besides, who doesn't love driving around in a little gokart?

View attachment 76185View attachment 76186 By far one of the worst and most dreadful JRPGs I've ever played, Phantasy Star III is a game that has a lot of cool concepts but they're executed in a horrible way, the characters don't have any personality, the dialogue is mostly exposition dumps, the graphics are terrible and the music is really bad overall.
Post automatically merged:

The dungeons in this game are horrible and the game is very easy and dull.

It's a bit unfinished and it shows. It's too bad because it has a great setting. A medieval world with robots and dragons on a spaceship? That's way too cool to mess up so it was a disappointment to see it be underwhelming. I was hoping that this game would have gotten a remake like the first two. But it wasn't amongst the the announced remakes and PS4's remake was cancelled. I believe one of the reasons no PS3 remake was proposed is because it was from a different team.

Lyle actually does have a somewhat developed personality. That's why he's the best character.

I love 99.99% of every video game I've ever played, and 100% of all SEGA Megadrive/Genesis games I've played, so this is tough.

Maybe Batman Forever with a 3 button controller?
I still love that game though.

The Genesis port of After Burner II made me hate it as a kid until I got addicted to the arcade original in Shenmue II. Choosing an arcade port is a bit cheap but it's one that's always stung me the wrong way.

Sonic 2 has always pissed me off aesthetically and has always been one of my least favorites if we're not going with ports.
