Windows what is the best jrpg game you ever played before ?

Then the question is not which one is "best" but rather a JRPG that's JRPG starter friendly for those who never played a game in the genre before.

Whole genre is about reading lots of text, character situations, have to improve your whole party strategically and gotta have ability to think tactically. It means you gotta learn the whole reality of the game to understand its facts, what you should do and not so you won't stuck in the game so you won't have to waste your life defeating enemies. In other genres game befits itself to player, but in JRPGs you gotta befit yourself for the game. It means you gotta think like a person who lives in that game reality to progress in the games.

JRPG comes with inventory and resource management. Gotta save your money and health potion and whatnot stuff and absolutely use it when you have no other choice.

Some JRPGs goes easy on you so, for example, when during a battle one of your party member dies they are resurrected after the battle ends so don't waste resurrection potions or something during the battle f you don't have to.

Then some JRPGs are "off" to some people due to envioremental puzzles. It means to progress in the game you may need to figure out what kind of place you are in and find the right way to do what you gotta do.

When you play a JRPG learn the society of the game world, find useful places like shops, learn how to refresh your health for free if you can find it, especially learn if it's a game that allow you to find good gears in dungeons or you need to grind money to buy better gear in shops. Some JRPGs have crafting system so sometimes you progress you need to craft better gears. In some JRPGs you need right members in your party to defeat enemies.

Well you may start with this game for starter JRPG experience: Tokyo Xanadu eX+

Another one: Yakuza: Like a Dragon

If you think you can handle the classic JRPG experience then play this one: Breath of Fire IV

The 2 last games I listed can be played as a standalone game without playing the previous games. Don't worry, they are not "bad but easy games" I recommend or something, they are in my favorites but also easier for starters but last one is hardest the most. Well, have fun.

Maybe not THE BEST because I have many favourites, but I believe "Final Fantasy X" would be a good introduction both as rpg and about the FF series.

It's quite linear, you would not get lost in some big world map without directions, the battles are turn-based so you could learn (?) the basic, but still it's more "modern" than earlier FFs and it may have some quality-of-life improvements over them.
It's also a good rpg, with a very beautiful story and great characters, alongside the main story there are many secrets to discover (I remember quests for stronger weapons, for example).

(?) I've put this in my previous phrase because I don't know your experience with videogames in general, so no idea how you feel about turn-based or real-time-action battles.

Edit: with a few exceptions, FF titles are standalone, so apart FF13 and its two sequels, and FF4 and its sequel "The After Years" (these ones can be find here in the repo as a collection of both titles for psp), in the main series you could pick any number and not to worry about the story being connected to previous titles.

Not a JRPG

Nowhere close being a JRPG

You're really just listing rpgs at this point, Gothic is not a JRPG either. I'm surprised you didnt list fallout honestly.

Start with Chrono Trigger, you cant go wrong with it
Yeah but they are good games.

If your new to rpg/jrpg well.
Silver is a good start for rpg on PC
Final fantasy mystic quest on snes is an easy start for JRPG
Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg the remake is rather easy and can be played on steam/PS4/PS5 and switch.
Final fantasy 16 if you pick the easiest difficulty.

In no particular order.
YS 1-2
Grandia
Ar tonelico
Atelier Marie
Star ocean

Well Chrono Trigger, FFVI, Lunar 1 Suikoden 1, Grandia 1, YS VIII, Dragon Quest 8 or 11, Super Mario Rpg.

Final Fantasy VII is a favorite, star ocean too but it has the item creation systemn which can be not common for these games, and Xenoblad Chronicles is amazing but will probably make you see how dull some other games, even fan favorites can be

Well, Ar Tonelico has been mentioned(finally, no one talks about it) and YS VIII.
So i'll add Xenogears(PS1) /Xenosaga(PS2) and Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology(3DS)

I think for a newcomer would be good to start with something more modern to get the feel for the genre with all the QoL things it gathered over time. I know its a retro forum but hear me out. I played a lot of JRPGs (mostly old), despite not having them as a kid so I guess I was pretty new to the genre myself, and the key word here is "played" because, while enjoying my time with them, I never finish them. The only ones I actually beaten were Tales of Berseria and Persona 5 (and Parasite Eve if it counts as a JRPG). Therefore I recommend starting with Persona 5 even though it seems like a basic beach choice (believe me, I hate how Atlus been milking it dry for years now). Or maybe try Dragon Quest XI that I almost finished but got distracted by something else. Its a perfect blend of oldschool and modern in one very cool package. I really enjoyed it overall.

But they arent JRPG's. Might as well add Super Mario World, Medal of Honor Frontline and Tekken 2 since they are good games
Yes I got it. If you write something wrong here you will be condemned immediately. I just thought RPGs I didn't think of Japanese RPGs.

Mhm. That's why I recommended modern JRPGs because they are more like how today's games are so they are ok for newcomers to the genre. They are also close to how non-JRPGs are.

For example if the first JRPG I had ever played was Star Ocean: Till the End of Time or something like that then I wouldn't even play Radiata Stories, I would be like "JRPG died, so far the best JRPG that can ever will be is Final Fantasy 6!!! No hope for future. Not amen" lol.

Yes I got it. If you write something wrong here you will be condemned immediately. I just thought RPGs I didn't think of Japanese RPGs.
Nah. It's just the OP specifically asked JRPGs and there is "Windows" tag here so our options got limited into a specific asked way lol.

So it may mean the OP already play American CRPGs but never played JRPG before so it wouldn't make sense to recommend non-JRPGs because they may have played already.

Xenogears
Persona 2 Duology
Digital Devil Saga 1-2
Final Fantasy VI
Chrono Trigger
Radiant Historia
