What is "love" to you?

OIP (1).jpg

Some say, "Love. It is a river
That drowns the tender reed"
Some say, "Love. It is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed"
Some say, "Love. It is a hunger
An endless aching need"
I say, "Love. It is a flower
And you its only seed"

It's the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
That never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dyin'
That never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun's love
In the spring becomes the rose

love is a lie that people come out of nowhere to tell you when they think they have some temporary use for you. never trust this

I agree in part, nowadays there is a lot of rhetoric around this term...it is often used out of context, when you want to conceal complex situations.

This, of course.

Out of the joke, for me, its the meaning of life as a human. Love what you do, love the people around you, your community.
Make a place you can love and your life will have meaning.

Affection ig, everyone has it unless you’re a brooding loser. /j

Maybe. Not to get overtly religious but my dad did a lot of studying the bible (Also to note, my dad was born with no empathy and likely no emotions either, a fair bit harder life than i had); As such he and the church would repeat that Greek & Hebrew has several forms of love listed, which are then just lumped into a single word in English. These are from sources and off the top of my head:

Platonic
Eros/Erotic & Romantic
Agape/Principled unconditional
Storge/Familial
Philia/Brotherly
Ahava/Deep love
Chesed/Merciful love

While typically 'love' we know defaults to romantic. So while i say i love my sister, does not mean the same thing as i love my girlfriend. Nor I love my hometown or particular games.

So when you subdivide down to how you love something, then we can then discuss what it means to us.

Of course, I meant the question specifically related to falling in love.
Falling in love is sometimes blind love that then, over time turns into affection, which is something much deeper because it is sharing our existence and its difficulties with our partner. Love for our children or more generally for those we care about is something different, but it is not too different from the affection described above, and indeed it places before us a great responsibility which is to raise and support them.

Being with some one who you trust, as in: You don't need to hide any part of yourself and neither does the other person. Whether that's platonic or romantic. That's love.

Love is also not bound to family and any one claims you should "love" family unconditionally is definitely manipulative verging on abusive.

Nice way to see it, but for science is exactly what we are. We're just a product of evolution, like any other life form. There is nothing else, everything we feel come from our brain.
I'm well aware of that, yes, but to me at least, having the shell of an animal does not entirely define our limits our decide our true destiny.

Hmmm... So romantic and/or erotic love.

Love.... is not being totally alone and ignored.
Love, is having someone to hold when you aren't feeling well, or when you need to help them when they aren't feeling well.
Love is cuddling in bed and not wanting to get up until the cat jumps on you and insists the food bowl needs to be filled NOW.
Love is doing what needs to be done even if you don't want to.
Love is a sharing of physical bonds and enjoyment.
Love, is curling up on the couch watching anime while having dinner.

Love is not just a grand feeling; it's in everything, everywhere.
It's in the smile you share with a stranger, the warmth of the sun on your skin, and the way your heart hums at a beautiful flower.
Love is in the laughter of friends and in the quiet comfort of solitude.
It's in the way the wind dances through the trees, in the first sip of warm tea on a cold morning, and in the kindness we give without expecting anything in return.
It's not just in great acts of devotion, but in the smallest moments.
The way we listen, the way we care, the way we see beauty in the fleeting things.
Love is the breath of the universe, my friend.
It's not something to be found, but something to be lived.
Love is the thread that weaves through all things, binding us to the world and each other.

But in all seriousness, love is that which gives us the means to rise up and carry on. It's the most powerful form of human expression. To love is to be human.

Love can mean a lot of things, but I think true love in any form is unconditional admiration and devotion to something or someone. The difference between love and obsession is whether or not you care more about that person or thing's well-being more than your own.

Love is a passive force that I take for granted, something slumbering in the background of my struggling. It lets me think that I'm truly alone in my wandering and thrashing about life, but it's ready to save me if I ever veer towards doing anything truly foolish. In return, I know that it would give me strength in a time of crisis to do previously unthinkable things to protect those I care about. It may be a quiet warmth that is put into words and actions more rarely than it ought to be, but it exists nonetheless. That sort of unspoken love amongst friends is something I didn't really understand until I got older and realized both how lonely the world can be, and has felt in the brief times I haven't had anyone around to lift me up.

It comes in various forms, expressed differently by each person I know. The romantic form of love feels like a dangling carrot that I've chased at various times in life, and have nibbled on rarely. There have been times when it was offered to me freely and I refused it, later regretting not allowing myself to feel the gluttony of that emotion. Sometimes I thought I deserved a more ripe and luxurious carrot, and ended up with nothing instead. It may be that I've exhausted the possibilities and opportunities of ever finding it in a visage that could fulfill my ego, but it still motivates me to keep moving and not give in to decay and atrophy just yet.

I'm not sure where I heard this song, but it has my favorite lyrics about the concept of love.

Love is everything. You will give it everything, and that is what it will take. Love is pain, and pain is power. It is a vital piece of true rebirth, becoming greatness for the betterment of the galaxy. This is why the Jedi will fail, they banish love and forbid self-discovery, and so they never truly know the power within them. The Jedi fight for nothing, and that is why they will always remain in the Shadow of the Empire.
