Well my problem with FF13 wasn't the gameplay, though yes it was a big long hallway for 95% of the game, my problem with it was the story was just garbage, especially it's over-reliance on the primer, which is also a problem both xenosaga and final fantasy 8 had, people in general want to get the story in-game, not from reading a encyclopedia.

That said unlike xenosaga and ff8, i personally think 13 has a legitimately bad story, i can't comment on 13-2 and lightning returns (other than my vehement dislike for lightning) as i never played through 13-2 and LR, but 13's story imo, was just terrible, period especially considering 12 and earlier games had far better stories.

Parasite Eve 3rd Birthday. People hate it because it was such a huge diversion from the original in terms of game play and story, but I'm a fan of third person shooters and I had so much fun with it.

I think Ehrgeiz has way more going on for it than people are willing to give it credit for, that's a cool game and I still love going back to it now and then

Back then people slept on it because arena fighters weren't really big on them plus they treated it like lesser Tekken copy (which to be fair, it was to some extent despite played differently).
But yes, it's actually pretty good game mechanicswise and all the other side minigames are decently enjoyable as well, especially the dungeon crawling RPG one ala Tobal No. 2.

If it's actually a standalone game, it wouldn't be as unpopular and hated by most PE lovers really, because gameplaywise it's really innovative and groundbreaking even if it's kinda hard as sin for the unfamiliar (basically Dark Souls before it was cool).
But because SQ-E got into the fiasco with the actual PE novel author over the franchise, they tried to change the whole story and remove most of the references related to the novels resulting in the absolutely nonsensical story that glossed over the previous two games' themes.

I didn't know about that. It makes sense though, why can't people just chill and make a game ya know? They had such a great formula for a interesting story that riveted audiences. And I bet it was 100% Squares fault, lame

The first game that comes to mind for me when it comes to this subject is Okamiden.

Yes, there's so many plot holes for a sequel to the original Okami and it definitely needed a lot more time in the oven before being released, but I found it to be honestly very charming especially if you consider it an AU sequel.

I just finished this and I thought it was a real lovely time. The celestial brush as a mechanic is a natural fit for the DS and I think as a portable Okami it sets out what to do admirably. Also Chiberatsu is one of the cutest protagonists, his relationship with all the partners was real heartwarming stuff. Chibi getting hit when he would let out the most pitiful whimper would always make me wince for the poor thing. If you want a decent and pretty action adventure on the DS then Okamiden comes highly recommended.

I loved Too Human and still do. It was mostly criticized because it used the right stick for combat. I, however, loved ping ponging from enemy to enemy. After you'd defeat one enemy, Baldur would slide to the next enemy if you tilted the right stick in their direction. I also loved the environments. Too Human just feels like an Xbox game. It has that epic science fiction feel that a lot of Xbox and Xbox 360 games had that I miss.

Rules of rose: Yes, gameplay is awful, but the story is interested, and sountrack 20/10
Naughty Bear: Simple and repetitive, but for me, fun enough.
Saw the videogame: Bad game, but excellent ambientation.

Oh I still don't get the hate for 6, ppl who say "it's not survival horror anymore, it's a shooter", that applies to RE4/5 too, and to some extent to 2/3.

Yea, I don't get why people hated it so much. It's just more resident evil but taken to the next level. I have never seen resident evil as a horror game (Not even the firs one), only RE7 is an actuall horror game.

It's by Imageepoch, which in itself basically the king of niche RPGs yet beloved by people who actually play them all (7th Dragon, Fate/EXTRA, Luminous Arc, etc)
Speaking of, it also leads to my favorite proclaimed "kusoge" which is actually way better than what garbage critics said back then and contributed greatly to Imageepoch's bankruptcy:

First: FF6 anathogly the PS1 version just for the FMVs yee loading time isn't super bad its annoying at times but i can live with it.

That whole arc with Kudos was pretty effective in tearing at the heart strings, especially near the end. Another cute little detail I noticed is that your partner will just be stroking your head if you keep Chibi still which is just darling. Very charming little game and I honestly consider it a legit hidden gem for the DS.

It definitely was effective. I replayed it years later and it tore at me again.

The little interactions between Chibi and his partners in their idle animations are adorable. It's why I still love it despite all the issues I mentioned.

Legitimally surprised to find Mega Man 5 & 6 were deemed the worst of the NES Mega Man, i actually love them for non-music goodies, While i admit 5's weapons rival X2 in terms of suckiness, i kinda love the graphic of the Charged shot, the bosses are also challenging, regarding 6, the weapons are back at being good (Only Blizzard Man and Petalman's suck) the level's puzzles feel gratifying and overall the Rush modes feel refreshing for the usual Coil and Jet, Also this is the first Console game where the Oh-So-good Energy Balancer debuted since the Rockman World handheld introduced it
