It's basically a slightly faster, but more streamlined version of Killer Is Dead.
Isometric/Overhead, and plays nothing like the other mainline games. There is also optional co-op. I recommend just watching the youtube cutscene stories for that one.

Rygar's 3D version, like Ninja Gaiden's (both by Tecmo), came out before God of War and gamers prior to game journos( or lets be real, SONY) making it number 1 let Jaffe have it over that and how much it looked like he ripped off... to be fair, he was probably developing it while they came out, but who knows what the original version was like.. ironically at the time, it was the sex scene stuff that differentiated it... funny how times have changed... and I was there.. yeah it was good, but it wasnt GREAT until every magazine said so.. the rest of us had to sit back and mald... I played the originals, Ive always thought they were good, better than Rygar, but no where near as good as Ninja Gaiden and stuff like Devil May Cry... but that could just be me, to each their own...
Despite coming out first, Rygar (PS2) does not hold up well, and the Wii version is technically worse.
yeah MadWorld and especially its kinda sequel Anarchy Reigns are NOT like the og God of Wars.. they are 100% 3D beat em ups more than character action games... I prefer them in fact, but again, to each their own..

Oh yeah, both are 3D brawlers, but MW more so has more than few God of Warisms spinkled around, but still does more than enough unique gamelpay mechanics and style. Anarchy Reigns is pretty much Spikeout made by Platinum and made for 7th gen consoles.
I know you already covered that. I was just adding to conversation and agreeing with you on the game not aging well, and already having problems before GoW and Xbox Ninja Gaiden came out.
I love Anarchy Reigns.. I was probably the only person in Texas that bought it full price
It basically came out at $40 when brought to Western shores. SEGA had no faith, and delayed the game by a year for no good reason. I have not forgotten about that. I still play the challenge and survival modes every now and then.
I dont remember the price.. I remember buying it new... and literally no one else knowing what I was talking about for years around me... maybe everyone hated the name... I dont know.. but its good stuff.. I still play it every few months or so.. the characters and art are so cool and interesting, not to mention the gameplay... oh sorry, didnt mean to derail the God of War talk
It was supposed come out in 2011 in all regions, but Sega only kept the release date for Japan, and moved every non-Asian region all the way to 2012. I remember being really pissed off, because I could not afford importing and my 360 isn't region free. Only people with a PS3 benefited from importing.
see I didnt know all of that.. I just got the 360 version when it appeared new in my shop... crazy.. I need to look up the story behind all of this, sounds like a crazy story... maybe if Sega advertised it like other games, I dont know, Bayonetta, maybe it wouldve sold... then again Sega of America basically helped kill Spikeout too.. glad you brought that up, another series strangled in its crib
FTR: This was all Sega of Japan's decision on Anarchy Reigns. Not SOA, SOE, nor Sega UK.
SOA actually out more effort into advertising Spikeout than they did with Anarchy Reigns. SO had the unfortunate luck of coming out when arcades were dying, and longer games on home consoles were becoming the norm.
Ill give you that, cuz im not read up on it, but the dying of the arcades in the West wasnt the real problem, Outrun 2 and Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast still did well even in America, in Japan some of the best shooters and fighters were still coming out and longer form games had been the norm on console for years by that point, but again, I agree that anything arcade related was being absolutely destroyed by American games media at the time, just like they still are.. I wasnt aware that SOJ was going after Spikeout and Anarchy Reigns.. I just saw the constant anti anything arcade culture at the time and assumed it was those in charge in the west keeping it out... kinda like Sony keeping out Japanese games that werent 3D during the psx days, Bernie Stollar hating the Saturn and Dreamcast's Japanese library... like I said, I just assumed, maybe Ive mixed up a lot of stuff, but I always blamed SOA cuz I had seen them do it for years at that point

SOA did fuck up a lot, but even SOJ fucked harder or even more by the Dreamcast era. They were just better at hiding it, until they collapsed with the Dreamcast, and certain Japanese execs wanted out, because they weren't on top anymore.
