With all the recent ports of PS2 games such as GTA3, GTA Vice City and the psone Wipe out (yes i know they are of the PC versions that have been ported, but they are more well known on the psone and 2 more then PC, so i am using them as their benchmark) being ported over to the Dreamcast, i have been thinking what else the Dreamcast potentially have ported over?

What do you think would easily hold up on the Dreamcast?

I mean, we JUST also got a new version of Doom 64 as well.

During its life, DC got many fifth Gen games. I think sixth Gen stuff is POSSIBLE but more of a challenge due to a lack of RAM and the lack of a second analog stick on the controller. As GTA has shown, there are many clever workarounds you can find though!

Personally, I think TEKKEN Tag Tournament could actually run on the old Dreamcast. It would be DIFFICULT, since that game was built so much around the Emotion Engine, but I think its early enough in the PS2’s life to be possible.

You want a weird one? I BEG for Dark Cloud to get a Dreamcast port. I think it’s possible, it would definitely run rougher though. That said, with some optimized code, I actually would make a solid bet that the game would run better on the Dreamcast with our modern dev tools than it did on PS2 all those years ago.

I wonder if it'd possible to port a Burnout game, just imagine that!

Is there a website where i can easily find all of these ports?
Be aware, none of these developers support piracy. You’ll have to supply your own game files and cobble the port together.
That’s the real hard part.
Even so, here’s the link to the port of 3.

Honestly, if the arcade version manages to work on it, that's good enough for me.

I think they want you to go to their github and use your own purchased game to make it with their code. The steam copies work fine i am told, and then it is a case of running their code, which then produces a GDI which runs on the DC as a result.

Here is the GTA3 for the project which as all the information on it.
GTA3

For the others, you can use that site as a jump off point. The wipe out one, i have only see as videos from MVG.

Shoutouts to MVG for being one of the GOATs of the modding scene. That man built a bunch of the OG Xbox emulators, Doom on PSP, and a few other things before showing off a ton of work from a ton of different communities! And he’s still making things, now officially, on the Switch line of systems!

Badass dude. I have massive respect for all that he’s done and how kind he’s proven to be over the many years he’s been in the scene.

As a follow on since no one else has said this yet, i have been eying Code veronica, and looking at the sprite work, and wondering if Re Remake and 0 could be ported with a little effort?

Perhaps using the same compression techniques in GTA 3 and touching up with AI using the Dreamcasts parameters.

I was always hoping for a port of Rise of The Triad.
IT COULD BE POSSIBLE! The big thing is having somebody who’s willing to sit down and do it. Remember: these are projects without financial incentive. So, whatever comes, be thankful for it.

I do respect devs choice, but I think it's just too much to bother assembling everything myself, I'm not that interested to go that far. Would like to have a link to the internet archive one day. I know the project is still in development and very unoptimized anyway.

Of course no piracy! This is not the point of the project. More conversion from one format to another if you have purchased your copy. Hence why for the GTA3 and Liberty city ports, you need to own your GTA on PC first. I can get behind that. But then is that considered piracy?

The idea of Piracy if you ask me should be more clear cut and not a way to simply hoard, as we end up with a back and forth from developer studios (often not developers, as there are issues with them even owning thier works these days, it is the company and then they get treated like S**T as a contractor, i should know i am one...) doing all they can to show share holders that their is value in their stock. So they look at things like home brew and emulation projects as targets, labeling it piracy, just to tick a box to show share holders that we are protecting IP.

And intellectual property as a whole, to some extent is not even about making products or even earning from them, it can be a game of cat and mouse with hoarders and scrapers who hold on to the IP for drear life (IP Troll), as some form of equity. Which again does not innovate, stagnates and ultimately kills the industry i would argue.

We are heading in to a time where instead of innovation, we sque the data to protect reputation and look to squeeze as much out of a name rather then an idea. We are not innovating, and like stagnating waters it will just result in parasites, and dessess, whcih if AI takes all jobs, will result int he death of all industries as the people who need to spend money for your products cannot, and as a result companies who rely on them for ROI, so to pay share holders will die a quick death, and shareholders will go else where until there is nothing.

Cash flow from consumer to company and back again is the cornerstone of traditional economics., the industry today is no longer about art or reaching your user, so that they can have experiances which make them feel like they wish to return as a customer. Experiences that respect ones time, effort, and most of all is not predatory. As we end up in an abusive relationship, which is why old school gaming for me is always better then the shinny graphic intensive stuff today, which scrapes your data and installs kernal mode code (without permission) on a users system to spy on them, which they totally will not use for data theft, scouts honnar!

Ok rant over. I am old so just picture me as an old man shouting at technocrat kids from my lawn talking about "back in my day"...

It has gotten a lot better though. Used to have loading hitches, now it barely has them. It honestly is running better than the PSP GTA’s now, which is quite the achievement for just a few months of work from independent devs working for no financial gain.

Command & Conquer : Tiberian Dawn

It's a great game and the PS1 port is just fine, it's too bad there's no hacked version featuring different maps in place of the "convert ops" sets on each disk

Skill over Return on investment any day. The whole project to me reminds me of the days of the Amiga and the days of the 68000. People just showing what they can do with their code, rather then reliance on another companies short cut suit that in itself does things in such away that using "makes development" easier (lazier), so that companies can get ROI Think Epic tools, crystal tools and the like. I respect any one who can code, but the most respect goes to those who really get to know systems so well, that they can squeeze every bit of performance out of it!

I get why this software like epic tools and the like is needed, but look at what happened with consoles like the PS3, a lot of its titles did not even use the hardware properly with only Koji pro and the like really utilizing the consoles hardware with shear skill.

680000 coders are still making demos for it, and MVG did a video on this recently. This hardware was used cross generation in systems from the 80s right up till late 90s, which is crazy!

I do agree generally with that, but not all of AAA games are like this. Baldur's Gate 3 is a good example of devs clearly reaching their users and care about the project.
It has gotten a lot better though
I'm glad to hear that. Is it possible to emulate the game as well? I remember there were problems with that before.

gta 3, vice city.

not san andreas becuz it barely have stable 30fps on ps2, also MGS sons of liberty, MGS sons substance and all re games (outbreak 1 2 ,dead aim,) re4 not included, and i aslo say that like tekken games tag and 5 all of sega games on GBA psp and also sonic heros.

Looking at RE remke vs RE CV side by side, i think this is totally doable.

While RECV is using rendered items in the background, RE RM is rendering higher res images.
With reference to the specs between GC and DC, if this site is anything to go by, we have about half as many resources on the DC.

I think it would look a little worse, but RE Remake could be possible, especially if alone in the dark new nightmare is anything to go by, as this is kind of the same design style, all be it a little more janky..

Yeah you are right it might be possible with some cut downs
