I do respect devs choice, but I think it's just too much to bother assembling everything myself, I'm not that interested to go that far. Would like to have a link to the internet archive one day. I know the project is still in development and very unoptimized anyway.
Of course no piracy! This is not the point of the project. More conversion from one format to another if you have purchased your copy. Hence why for the GTA3 and Liberty city ports, you need to own your GTA on PC first. I can get behind that. But then is that considered piracy?
The idea of Piracy if you ask me should be more clear cut and not a way to simply hoard, as we end up with a back and forth from developer studios (often not developers, as there are issues with them even owning thier works these days, it is the company and then they get treated like S**T as a contractor, i should know i am one...) doing all they can to show share holders that their is value in their stock. So they look at things like home brew and emulation projects as targets, labeling it piracy, just to tick a box to show share holders that we are protecting IP.
And intellectual property as a whole, to some extent is not even about making products or even earning from them, it can be a game of cat and mouse with hoarders and scrapers who hold on to the IP for drear life (IP Troll), as some form of equity. Which again does not innovate, stagnates and ultimately kills the industry i would argue.
We are heading in to a time where instead of innovation, we sque the data to protect reputation and look to squeeze as much out of a name rather then an idea. We are not innovating, and like stagnating waters it will just result in parasites, and dessess, whcih if AI takes all jobs, will result int he death of all industries as the people who need to spend money for your products cannot, and as a result companies who rely on them for ROI, so to pay share holders will die a quick death, and shareholders will go else where until there is nothing.
Cash flow from consumer to company and back again is the cornerstone of traditional economics., the industry today is no longer about art or reaching your user, so that they can have experiances which make them feel like they wish to return as a customer. Experiences that respect ones time, effort, and most of all is not predatory. As we end up in an abusive relationship, which is why old school gaming for me is always better then the shinny graphic intensive stuff today, which scrapes your data and installs kernal mode code (without permission) on a users system to spy on them, which they totally will not use for data theft, scouts honnar!
Ok rant over. I am old so just picture me as an old man shouting at technocrat kids from my lawn talking about "back in my day"...
