What do you think of the console that Atari presented?

Hmmm, looks like a switch or a Deck, or a tablet with dongles on them....

No, went bankrupt long ago. Other companies purchased what was left of Atari and use it as a shell because it's a recognized name brand.
Pfft. "Dongle."

What? It's still a funny word.

Yes it is a funny word. Dongle is just an attachment of some type. First time i heard the name was the Xbox remote control dongle which would allow you to play DVD movies. Before that (80's 90's?) dongles you attach to your serial ports and software would use that as DRM to determine if you could even boot the software.

Ahhh love LGR on that topic...

TBH gives me vibes of those fake Switch handhelds with 789045789413526 NES games that totally never repeated

Mom can we get a Switch 2?

We got Switch 2 at home.

If you told me it was a bootleg i'd believe you.

Honestly:
*150 USD
*HDMI Output
*200 games, including arcade versions
*will support modern Atari games, with software library & firmware updates
*Atari probably doesn't care if you hack it for homebrew or emulation purposes

Not a bad little device & My Arcade has already had an okay track record with these kinds of products.

Dude. Don't ruin this for me.

Donnnnnnnnnnngle...

Most of the shit that puppeteers the corpse of Atari around hasn't been good, Aliexpress tier plug-and-play garbage IMO. There's no point in buying a brick to look at the Atari's beautiful 160x192 resolution stretched out in all is HDMI glory when you can probably just play Atari games on an emulator on your phone if you're that desperate to experience tech demos from the 80s again

Such a stupid business move. With all Chinese handhelds from Miyoo, Retroid, Anbernic being available why in the world would anyone be even slightly interested in this? For the Atari logo? A clueless old guy who used to play Atari in his tweens, and doesn't know any better? But how many are those out there? Certainly not enough to fill the quota for this.

Atari's customer base is either dying of old age or too old to care about video games, and has zero appeal to young audiences by attempting to milk their tech demos from the paleolithic dry

Pricing matters aside (especially from someone from Brazil), this looks fucking cool. Unique aesthetic, a trackball, a spinner and a numeric keyboard replacing a second stick? Hell yeah, sign my niche ass up. I mean, I'll never buy one, but I think it's cool nonetheless.

I don't know about the build quality or whatever, but the idea of a trakball is pretty cool because playing something like Crystal Castles just never feels right on a controller. That said, it would kinda need to have every trakball game ever to get me to bite, and even then I'd probably debate it until I didn't pull the trigger.

I honestly think the device looks promising. Having the number pad and the trackball actually opens up more of the atari library than you typically get in the various collections and gives it an edge over just buying some other sbc handheld emulation device like an anbernic or miyoo. From what I've seen, they also intend to leave it open for sideloading other software, and it should be able to easily hook up to a TV to let you do couch gaming (and the controllers for it look pretty good).

I don't really get why other people seem to think it looks so bad.
