What do you think of the console that Atari presented?

I agree
what I think is woah another overly expensive tat I got no need for.

Like man retro gaming is stupidly over expensive hobby where they makes limited super expensive mini consoles. Or some one does a new console that play retro games that costs 200-500 bucks.
Or you want to buy an upscaler but they cost 300+ dollar.

And people wonder why I rather emulate than use real hardware well duh playing PS1-2 would cost me a fortune a good CRT that not a big ass 500kg tv, like a 14 inch Sony trinitron will cost me 500-1000 bucks or as I said uppsacler 300+ My rent is 600 bucks your telling me a bloody uppscaler is half my damn rent. When emulators is 100% free.
I agree about the hobby being too expensive. The only systems I don't emulate are ones that I have owned for a long time (way back before things got as expensive). And I typically use flash carts instead of hunting down original games for the same reason.

But this device is supposed to retail at $150, which seems reasonable to me for something with those added controls (a paddle-style joystick that twists, trackball, and num pad). To me, that seems like a reasonable price and places it above most of the emulation devices, because it's offering something that I can't just get from any other SBC device.

Of course not everyone is going to have that same preference. (Also of course I think a lot would depend on what the final build quality looks like.)

The only relevant Atari these days is the end game situation in Go.

Such a stupid business move. With all Chinese handhelds from Miyoo, Retroid, Anbernic being available why in the world would anyone be even slightly interested in this? For the Atari logo? A clueless old guy who used to play Atari in his tweens, and doesn't know any better? But how many are those out there? Certainly not enough to fill the quota for this.

$150? They cooked.

Might as well just make a custom skin for an existing handheld. It just doesn't seem worth it to me when there are other, well known handhelds already.

I did not grow up with Atari so got no love for does old game
You're not missing much. We used to hook my dad's one up from time to time when I was a kid. He had a bunch of games for it and the wheel controller things for breakout and the track and field pad as well. We'd end up playing it for a half hour or so then just go back to playing the nes or snes. My favourites were joust, lunar lander and pingu. Joust was actually pretty fun with two players. My favourite part of the whole thing was actually messing around with the basic interpreter. It's where I programmed for the first time.

You're not missing much.
It's really s case of having had to have been there when it was new, and there's just no way to replicate that after so much time has passed. I can remember Atari games when they were new, but that's a hard perspective to illustrate, especially at $150 for a thing if someone's uninitiated.

Well. I can understand that perspective it's just the games haven't aged that well and had aged poorly even by the time other 8-bit consoles were around. What I think would be cool for younger people is playing those games and learning how just about every arcadey type phone game and cheap steam game probably rips off an atari game or two. Seeing the original games those ideas came from. But you don't really need a special device for that.

Is that thing under the D-Pad a fucking trackball?

I don't think this thing will sell well, like the other 20000000000 Atari consoles MyGames (and AtGames but eh they might as well be the same thing) make.

It looks cool, but I probably won't buy it I don't have any nostalgia for Atari nor know much about the console or games it plays for me to be interested
Adding the numpad, trackball and paddle to the console is neat tho
