What did you learn today? ?

MacGyver's first name is Angus
but he hates his first name so he makes everyone call him MacGyver. 😎

I learned that moving out of this place is apparently going to be a pain in the ass. I told the landlady in June that I wasn't going to renew, but that I'd stay until early August since August is already paid for, and she said ok. She added that I needed to let her know 20 days before I plan to leave, and I said, "so if I'm leaving August 10, I need to let you know by July 20?" and she said yes.

So since last week, I've been trying to get in touch with her and she has magically vanished. Multiple trips to the office end up with me knocking on a door that is never answered, texts are not replied to, and the only email is a no-reply email. I checked the office twice today and the second time, the door is answered by some kid, who might be 16? I asked if she was in and he said no, and added that he is running things today. So I hit him with my questions about moving (me authorizing release of my last month's rent, what are the expectations beyond cleaning the unit, where would they like the keys, etc) and he was very clearly not ready to handle this. He took a couple of steps back and said he thinks she'll be in tomorrow, and asked if I could check then. I said sure, but noted that if I don't get contact with them, I'm still leaving and won't be paying August since they already have it in my account. So we'll see what happens.

i learnt how easy it is to scream in my vocals while singing in japanese LMAO

i think it has to do with the fact that Japanese has WAY less vowel sounds than English. it makes me feel way more free with my vocals x3
I am a native Spanish speaker and I think the opposite. For me japanese is easier because it has more use of vowels than languages like English, and the pronunciation of them and the rest of letters in Japanese and Spanish are all nearly the same.

Or I understanded you wrong and you are referring to inflections?

Caesar cypher?
Could be, I just did it by instinct.
Want to take a look?

i think you're misunderstanding me

yes ur rite in thinking that Japanese uses vowels more but what i said was (or meant at least) is that the amount of vowel sounds in Japanese is less than in English.

Japanese, and Spanish too sorta, only has 5 vowel sounds. I'm going to talk in terms of Japanese from here on.

In Japanese you have 5 sounds and that's it. theyre all pure toned:
A - AH
I - EE
U - OO
E - EH
O - OH

In English you have at least two sets of vowel sounds, one harsh and one rounded. the latter matches that of Japanese:
A - AY and AH
E - EE and EH
I - EYE and EE
O - OH and UH
U - YOU and OO

the problem is that English is just so completely flippant when it comes to when we use which sounds. its ridiculous. i abso-fucking-lutely HATE English. I'm so lucky that I was born in an English speaking country, cuz this language is so fucked LMAO

TL;DR: Japanese does use vowel sounds more often because all of their pheonetics are based around modifying the AIUEO sounds with consonants. English however has more base vowel sounds in general to draw from. While our sounds arent as vowel heavy, the amount of vowel sounds that we can draw from is higher.

Thank you kindly for your concise explanation ::heart
I agree with all you said. ::peacemario

I always wanted to know and talk about things like that. ::yay

They say you learn something new every day. This is a thread to share that knowledge.
If you learned some useful skill or concept and are excited about it, share it here so we can all learn from it.
cook cucumbers with vinegar, salt, sugar and you get homemade pickles... i slice mine too thin.

Some people can lie so naturally that would surpass any real life actor performance you have ever seen. I experienced this first hand. They will look you in the eye and lie and you will believe it.

If I didn't know for a fact the message was BS I would have never doubt it. And yet.

Makes you question a lot of beliefs we take as fact.

PS Not talking about Pirate Software but he has this skill.

I learned Lacuna Coil did a cover of Depeche Mode, which I was not expecting.

Heh... everyone is going to use the oldest trick in the book in their sleeves until they die. "tell the truth" is just: telling something of what you or anyone wants to hear.

people only tell the truth because if they/you don't everyone is gonna assume that you are a potential threat or worse. everybody scam, swindle, deceives and so on while believing that consequences are nothing...

I learned that Cry engine is a very underrated and underused game engine for Open world. And I wish Monster hunter wild used that instead of RE engine that is not optimal for open world.

I learned that there's a 9 character limit to naming horses in TotK. I'm not lovin' it.

I learned that car batteries are not cheap. But it's better than having lawn art.

Lmao, no way man
Car batteries are  expensive, probably one of the most expensive parts of the whole car

Just learned rotating the fruit around the edge of the knife is actually efficient to get desirable results

(Thx uncle)
The world is easy to interact with if you know how.
