What did you learn today? šŸ¤”

Today I learned the concept of "struggle meals". Or rather, that there's such an expression in English for that šŸ˜…
Thereā€™s no actual consensus for it I feel, at least based on the replies given. I was under the impression it was literally just that, struggle. But 80% of the stuff there seemed really normal to me lol. Essentially became a normal food chat. Maybe Jusaiki himself didnā€™t understand the definition and begun the thread under a false pretense (which is an honest mistake, he and I chat often in voice chat so Iā€™ve a decent idea of what heā€™s like, great guy)

I learned that if you destory a game so much is fails meat meet 85% of the sale and it goes so bad one of the studios will also close down you donĀ“t get fired apparently you just leave to peruse new endeavors.

I mean "Imagine being responsible for shutting down a studio costing people their jobs then just casually walking away like nothing."

Man I wish being worthless at a job would just mean I can stay or find a new job easy.

I learnt that playing on handhelds all day long isnt good for my eyes....So I'm back on TV's and monitors again :D

Learned a bunch about Virtualbox Win98SE and hardware 3D acceleration using a tool called SoftGPU.
Its giving me pretty decent speed in 3D games by translating D3D1-9 to OpenGL with WineD3D and then passing the OpenGL primitives through to my RTX3080 for real hardware acceleration, or even faster speeds when passingthrough D3D8/9 primitives straight to the GPU with Nine instead of WineD3D.
Still considering buying retro gaming pc though....

Also learned a bunch about QEMU-3DFX, a different way to get hardware accelerated 3D graphics in a VM with a modern GPU that lacks drivers for Windows 98SE.
QEMU-3DFX was a pain in the ass to compile, but got it working. Its giving me better speeds then Virtualbox+SoftGPU (about 3x faster), but because its using virtualized CPU and different wrappers its not as stable and some games just wont start.

Also tried 86box, although its the most stable and works 99% of the time, its very very slow, because its emulating the GPU in software on my CPU.
I always mean to get into qemu. I imagine a world where the thinnest possible arch install as a hypervisor slings virtual machines of any flavor via qemu to my computational whims

...but then mercury goes into retrograde or something

They say you learn something new every day. This is a thread to share that knowledge.
If you learned some useful skill or concept and are excited about it, share it here so we can all learn from it.
Learned that facebook's policies have changed, and it's become a breeding ground for Pedro's lately.
Yet Facebook does nothing!!
Things are only getting worse with time I'm afraid.
what a crappy way to start of 2025

Every day I learn something in this place...I think it's hard for me to list them.

Although today I learned that working with bees is not as scary as you might imagine.
Although you never fail to get stung during the work...Plus I learned that I love beekeeping!!! šŸāœØāœØāœØāœØāœØāœØ

I learned that people don't know what a German National Socialist salute actually looks like.

I learned that my downstairs neighbors are jerks that hit the ceiling but stop after awhile, because the greatest thing people hate is to be ignored.

I'd say I learn to find the things in art to appreciate. And maybe even expanding my outlook on art. Even if art is imperfect. Like deconstruction media like Evangelion and Madoka Magica. And try other games I haven't given a full chance on in the past like Bioshock 1.

It's a good idea to try stuff occasionally so you have a wider pov and pool of literacy knowledge on certain subjects or genres. It wasn't too long ago I tried Touhou and now I try random Shmups that interest me. It doesn't hurt to expand life's taste every once and a while.

learned that people you thought you were on good terms with at work can suddenly turn on you just because you also are on good terms with people they hate -_- apparently neutrality doesn't exist in certain work settings ~ oh well gonna move on and stick with the 'likes attract likes' ideal instead

I am sorry for that but I think this is a natural sociologic behaviour that someone seeing you being friendly with someone else can either spark jealousy because they like this person or disdain because it's someone they don't like.

I read somewhere that if you are friend with someone who happened to have done something bad someone would assume you'd also potentially do that as well (I remember being told a story about a guy getting fired after they got reported from greeting somebody who stole something in the store by a colleague).

Of course there's context and you cannot guess everything but sadly they don't want to take chances and there are people telling you that "you should carefully choose your friends".

oh well gonna move on and stick with the 'likes attract likes' ideal instead.
Sometimes I also believe that "opposites attracts" and that staying in the same bubble as other contacts isn't the best for discovering new points of view but that's just me.

You can stick your whole arm into a cow's vagina

Wait, that's something we learn in Elementary school, were you skipping class that day ?

It applies outside of work too unfortunately.

I learned about power bombing today.

Also just realized 10 mn ago the wordplay of "nesticle".

Weird shower thought (literally): In Final Fantasy IV, Zeromus' song is an amped-up remix of the Lunar Subterrane song. Does it count as learning if the information is derived from your own memories?

Speaking of songs, this song is what came to mind when I saw this thread:

January 25th. I cant believe that within the short span of January, I been on a bit of a writer's block, and have been uninterested in interacting eith others. Despite that, I had found this site AFTER losing a potential great friend from a forum site I used prior to this due to them being disappointed with the moderation rules there, made some acquaintances (i dont count the people I speak to on here as friends), and had a game's block. Im writing all of this while Im camping with a bunch of other like minded people but due to them being of course, mostly younger than me, I couldn't resist interacting with them and either mostly talking to myself or the adults there. One of them literally wanted to film a TikTok with the like minded and I felt like my head coming off.

As I sit down and about to sleep, I recount on thw fact that in 2 more days, ill be continuing my college, reviewing, and my gaming journey to be a better me. Streaming is still going well (I am currently trying to get my Twitch Channel up and running with Anton Blast Playthroimughs every Tuesday and Thursday until I beat the game), and I shall see by how thats going. A bit off topic, but I feel like whenever I feel the need to say something like this I need to be locked in, cause now I feel like doing such thing.

That recipes cannot be copyrighted in the US, and so cookbook authors fill them with personal stories and other random BS just to get them protected as their own IP.
Note that this means that some parts of the script of Nintendo's DS "game" Personal Trainer: Cooking (also known as Cooking Guide: Can't Decide What to Eat?) can be pirated with impunity.

nice :O actually the last part you said was very insightful ! that it's actually better than sticking to similar people all the time ~ i actually prefer spending break times with different people in the department since i get different view points when i observe

ironically the certain group i was referring to all clicked together because they seem to have something in common ... in a bad way ~

yep i definitely work in a very divided and toxic workplace ( it's a healthcare setting too so :/ )
