What did you learn today? 🤔

People should not post any private information online, even things like most liked music, birthday, what you bought online, etc.
The law isn't always enforced fairly and isn't always just. I agree with you, most famous VPNs are suspicious, maybe all?
The post merging thing is not an attack on you, it's just an automatic way to reduce double posting clutter on the forum I think?

You're right, many authorities and corporations are secretly criminals, look at the insane politicians and the clot shot that killed many people for pharma profit.
But greedy fat cats want to go after game preservation efforts which actually ironically help their sales. ::smirk1

They're just shooting themselves in the foot.
But why do you think the people running the site have malicious intentions? Naivety? Debatable. But their intentions don't seem bad to me.
Is your argument that an account should not be mandatory for downloads or that people should not talk so much on the forum? Just curious what exactly you meant with this post. ::bigboss

I have learned that we can't take anything with us at the end of life, whether it's things or experiences

I learned that contacting customer service does shockingly work sometimes

Today I'm learning about emulation on Android.
I got my first Android tablet (Alldocube iplay 60 Turbo) and a Gamesir G8+ and I'm working on getting everything set up

I learned that life is hard ;_;
When life give you lemons... don't be sad.
every cloud has a silver lining.
there is a compensation for every bad thing you have suffered, leading a to something even better.
trust me, I know it by experience, so to speak.

I learned what a club foot is.
first i was watching the Family Guy movie about Stewie, and then i watched it again with the commentary on. in which they mention a painting in the background with someone with a club foot. and i was like idk what that is, and i've never heard about it, but whatever.

2 hours later I watch a youtube video that randomly mentions a club foot, and I was like why the heck do i never hear that term ever, and then suddenly today I hear it twice.
So I had too look up what it was.

Did you know that the creators of Fido Dido, Sue Rose and Joanna Ferrone, were character designers on the original series of Nickelodeon's Doug? They're also the creators of Pepper Ann, who debuted in this strip from the Fido Dido comic series (obviously, she was heavily redesigned for the show).

When the Fido Dido character was purchased by Pepsi for 7-UP branding, Pepper Ann became the star of the comic until she was purchased by Nickelodeon for a cartoon, which the original animation team behind Doug moved onto after that show was purchased by Disney. Years later, the same creative pair also made Angela Anaconda, which shares several themes with Pepper Ann.

Did you know that?

I figured this out a long time ago but 11 is one of my favorite numbers and I always love to share this cool number fact. The first five powers of 11 are palindromes:

11^0 = 1
11^1 = 11
11^2 = 121
11^3 = 1331
11^4 = 14641

but 11^5 = 161051 isn't. A similar fact is also true of other numbers, but you have to be in certain bases. For example, the powers of 17 in hexadecimal (base 16) are palindromes, but only up to 17^5 = 15AA51 (17^6 = 1704F61 in hexadecimal). As to why this is the case, it's due to Pascal's Triangle (pictured below up to the 13th row).
pascals-triangle-1622524728.png

The nth row (counting from zero) gives you the coefficients of (x+1)^n when multiplied out. The way we represent numbers in a base are similar to polynomials, just with the base instead of x (for example, 121 = 1*10^2 + 2*10 + 1). So one plus the base has palindrome powers up to a certain point. The point where it stops is when the coefficients from the triangle become bigger (or equal) to the base (row 5 for base decimal, row 6 for hexadecimal).

Also completely unrelated, 17^5 in hex is green. This green to be exact:

it's literally impossible to ask anything on reddit without getting free snarky, unrelated or belligerent replies.
Everyone's either a comedian, an asshole or someone who knows the answer but rather not share it with you.
Just ask ChatGPT, it's better than people.

Mate, don't get me started on Reddit's user base. All the main forums are packed to the gills with the most miserable, passive-aggressive dopes imaginable, and every subreddit seems populated exclusively by tedious, humourless drones whose minds seem comprised exclusively of Discord/Twitter memes and forced Gen Z lingo (written by people in their 30s, of course).

Don't ever think about going against the hivemind – the users will literally trawl through your post history, reveal previously-unrelated thoughts to the public completely out of context, and downvote you to the point where your comment is either deleted or hidden. I know that all the big five geek websites have their flaws, but I genuinely think Reddit might just be the worst.

That sounds a lot like my dad and I don't think he's ever even heard of Reddit. Some people are that way for seemingly no reason and perceived anonymity only emboldens them.

On the upside, dealing with him taught me to solve my problems on my own and to try and be nicer to people, within reason of course. It may have been negative reinforcement but it definitely contributed to my growth as a person.

Today I learned Asterix the Gaul is the most popular European comic series in history. I thought it was just a video game.

Got a cat yesterday and learned today not to hold him in a weird way. Not sure exactly which way I was holding Bebop, but he started hissing at me, so I had to let him go.

Before ChatGPT, I had to rely on Reddit and Stack Overflow whenever I got stuck coding. Both communities are so hostile and anti-social, it really makes you wonder why people even bother signing up for those sites.

In contrast, it’s been very nice here so far.

Well... yeah lol.

My personal favourite is Asterix the Legionary.
What I love the most is how in the Italian version they translated it by "Sono pazzi questi Romani" which is the same acronym used for the SPQR hahaha!
